Truth be told, I don't really LÖVË working out. I'm not a fitness guru who craves it all the time. Most days it's just that for me... work. 😱 Shocker.... So how did I become a health and fitness coach? I mean isn't that part of the deal? Just because I don't absolutely love rolling out of bed at 6am to get my sweat on... trust me I'd rather be sleeping.... that doesn't mean I don't love the feeling I get afterward. That doesn't mean I don't love how it can make me feel about myself. That doesn't mean I don't love what it can do to help someone who needs it. Working out helps me be a better mom, woman, wife and friend to myself. It blooms into self-love and more confidence. Now that is something we all need more of, right? As a coach I'm an encourager, a friend, an accountability partner. I think the fact that working out isn't my love language makes me even more relatable to most of you. Even if you're intimidated, overwhelmed, or don't love it too... we can work together to help find a system that helps you love YOU more. That's really what its all about. Because I used to be in a place where I didn't really love the person staring back in the mirror and self-care has changed that for me. Oatmeal is an example of a really healthy food that sometimes people eat too much of. It’s filling and you don’t need a lot. This is 1/4 cup dry, half the recommend serving size. This is my favorite easy oatmeal, great in the microwave. I used frozen berries, hence my purple oatmeal:).

This week I would like to focus on RECOVERY. Exercising can be taxing on the body especially is you have any previous injuries or the older that you become. When we exercise we are overloading the joints and muscles which isn’t a bad thing but, you must take time to recover from your exercises. If you do not, you risk getting hurt or even burnt out from exercising in general. My favorite ways to recover from working out are: 💪🏾Yoga: it’s highly essential to stretch and increase your flexibility in order to prevent future injury. It’s not only beneficial for the body but also the mind! 💪🏾Baths: taking a hot Epsom salt bath with essential oils is not only relaxing mentally but it helps release lactic acid within the muscles after an intense workout or long distance cardio event. 💪🏾Foam Rolling: you’ve probably seen people in the gym torturing themselves on a foam roller before. It looks crazy I know and it is uncomfortable depending on how tight your muscles are but it’s highly beneficial for releasing lactic acid deep within the muscle. The myofascial release is truly amazing in the end! 💪🏾Rest Days: YES you need rest days!!!! It’ll help your body recover physically and prevent you from burnout. Purpose is an incredible alarm clock ⏰ - Waking up with a purpose is what gets me up and going. Also coffee, yes telling myself I’m going to get coffee helps a heck of a lot. I wake up,get my coffee and then start my to do list. Once I’ve taken about 15 minutes I then head to the garage for my workout. I have a purpose for waking up early. - It’s my time to have peace and quiet and set the tone for the day. It’s that time I can focus on me before anyone needs me or I’m being pulled in a million directions. It’s what help keeps me sane and moving forward.

"Being active during pregnancy is not just about my health but also benefits my baby." Claire Martin-Royle from @thefitmomsplan shares her tips for continuing to enjoy pregnancy exercise right through her third trimester! At the time of writing this I’m at my due date awaiting my little girl’s arrival, but still active. That’s not to say I find exercising easy at the moment. Even as a pre and post natal exercise specialist staying fit throughout your pregnancy, and particularly in your third trimester, is a challenge. In the final three months my bump has grown significantly and the tiredness and nausea have kicked in again. So how do I stay motivated? I remind myself why I am staying fit and active. . . . Staying fit means I haven't suffered with the aches and pains normally associated with pregnancy, which has made it much more enjoyable. . . . The best advice I can give anyone exercising throughout pregnancy is to listen to your body and stop or modify your workout if what you’re doing feels uncomfortable or you are taking too long to recover from the workout (it should take no more than 20 – 30 minutes to recover). Exercising in pregnancy from week one to week forty is about maintenance, not achieving personal bests. At 8 months my regular pregnant runs became more difficult. The weight of the baby on my pelvis meant I needed to pee five minutes into the run and it stopped being fun. Instead I switched to training on the cross trainer or wave machine at the gym, walked or did hybrid exercises at home to get my heart rate up. M O N D A Y 😅 am I right?! . Listen up! There will be days when you'll feel like you are so far off track with your health and fitness that you don't even know how (or want to) get back on. There will be days when you barely feel like you're keeping your head above water 💦 and you'll just want to grab fast food 🍟and eat it in your room with the door shut. There will be days when you literally don't see the point in making the effort to be better👎. . I know this because I have those days and so does pretty much everyone I know. Why? Because committing to any kind of change is scary👹. Staying exactly where/who/what we are is comfortable, even if it sucks. It takes the same amount of effort to roll through a drive thru and crack a beer in front of the tv 📺 than it does to throw salad in a bowl, drink a shake, and meditate. It SEEMS harder, but it's not. And now over a year into my journey (that has been FAR from perfect), I know this. . So when I took Before photos and measurements for my October wellness group that started today....and I realized that I've progressed BACKWARDS since last month😩😩😩, I started having one of Those Days. . But rather than do what I "felt" like doing when reality stared me in the face, I ate the vegetables 🥒 and I did the workout and I poured myself the shake. Because I know that if I just suck it up and do what I should do, I will feel a million times better in the moment, and my results WILL come! No one's journey is perfect or even pretty, even if their IG feed says so. ALL people slip up, get tired, give up and start over, and FAIL. That's HOW anyone succeeds! Don't forget that....especially when you fail. When you have a goal in mind, you go after it! Old PR #300club on the video I did 175 lbs but did last set at 185lbs. Slowly I will get my strength back. The woman’s body doesn’t heal that fast especially after 3 kids. The abdominal muscles need to heal to get rid of the momma pouch. I don’t feel I need my belt but I wear to take care of anything still healing in my body. I know it’s because the good food is making me more satisfied and a food choices as we can before. 🥒🥕 I got up at 5:30 a.m. for a 30 minute morning walk on the treadmill and another one this afternoon in the beautiful sun. 🌤🥒🥕

I am almost 10 months postpartum after baby number 2. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I can honestly say I never thought that after having 2 kids I would be in the best shape I have ever been in. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Physically, yes... But more importantly mentally and emotionally. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don't get me wrong I still struggle, but the difference is that I know now that it's OK to struggle and I am going to learn from every single moment of it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That struggle is going to make me better. How do you stay motivated?!?! 👆👆 that is a question I hear often. And some days I don’t know how to respond because honestly I don’t have an over abundance of motivation. In fact there are days I’d rather sleep in. I’d like to sit down and relax....we’ll that doesn’t happen often I’m too much of a busy body, but there are days I just don’t want to. But over time I’ve created DISCIPLINE. Sure I was motivated to feel better at first and some days I’m motivated to hit another goal, but motivation alone is not enough. We must practice making small changes everyday that will compound to help us work for our goals and create DISCIPLINE so we keep showing up even on the days we maybe don’t feel like it 🙌 I don’t want y’all going and looking for discipline either! Ok 👌?! Discipline is like a muscle, it is something we have to use and flex often for it to grow and develop! Use that desire for change to motivate your changes, but start focusing on creating your discipline to keep showing up FOR YOUR LIFE 😘

But when a woman feels good about herself, she’s more likely to treat others with goodness. With all the pressure we face as moms, wives, daughters, being a woman overall it may seem challenging to feel good about yourself. I’m talking truly feel good about yourself. Taking care of yourself, your body, is so important. You don’t own your body, it’s just a vessel for your spirit to walk this earth and it does have an expiration date ! Be rational and make good use of your body while you still have it! Treat it with respect. Cherish it. As women the societal pressure put on us to live and look a certain way has us putting our bodies through hell. From the food we eat (or don’t!), to the medications, surgeries, lack of physical fitness, too much or over strenuous fitness, to just not caring and letting go. I’m sure we’ve all done a few of those over time to look & feel better. Magic pills? Guilty 🤦🏽‍♀️ taking a pill will not make you skinner alone. Taking care of yourself is key. Eat good food. Exercise. Embrace the skin your in. Do a facial. Get a hair cut. Detox your body. Detox your skin. Stop drinking. Stop smoking. Take a walk. Play outside with your kids. Watch less TV. Read more books. Wear less makeup. Eat more FOOD. Meditate. Pray. These are all good practices to taking care of your body. Learning to appreciate yourself so you actually want to take care of your body. And setting a good example for those around you. When you feel good you do good !! at Brooklyn, New York

Today in the gym was legs & cardio. Of course, my wireless headphones died on my last set and BEFORE my cardio. 🤦🏼‍♀️ But I made it through 🤷🏼‍♀️💦 . Day 8 hammer and chisel iso strength. . I put the twins down for a nap and honestly was feeling tired and not really wanting to do much of anything. . So often when I don't want to do it is when it helps me the most. 25 minutes later, I'm sweaty, feeling energized, and glad that I pushed play! . Even the 5 year old joined in at the end when I was doing my cool down☺

Read the label carefully to determine if it is made with whole-grain wheat flour or just wheat flour. All white, refined flour is made from wheat, and a loaf of bread may be labeled as containing 100 percent wheat and be mostly white flour. Wheat flour is synonymous with white flour. Choose breads that specify 100 percent whole wheat to get the whole grain benefits.

We finally have temperatures in the 60s! And all the #runners said Amen 🙌🏻 I knew as soon as I felt the cool air this morning that we had to take our new #bobstroller out for its inaugural run on the @arkansasrivertrail. I sure will miss these trials if we end up moving next year. We got in 4 slow miles that didn't always feel easy since I haven't pushed a stroller in a while and haven't been able to follow a consistent running schedule with my knee injury and our interview travels. But easy or not, I loved it.
