BACK TO BASICS 🌟 I have recently been asked to share some exercises highlighting basic core strength and stability - so here comes part 1! . I have found that most people experiencing pain - whether it be from the low back, hip, SI-joint, knee and/or ankle - exhibit weakness of the hip abductors, extensors and external rotators (basically, the gluteal muscles). . . . These muscles work of course in tandem with the deep core muscles, as well as with the latissimus and adjoining fascia of the posterior oblique sling - meaning that they may even be involved in pain at the shoulder. . . The Clam exercise is a favorite of mine to isolate and strengthen the hip abductors/rotators which are particularly important in maintaining upright posture and giving support to the pelvis and spine. It is, of course, important to progress to more functional strength training once adequate strength has been achieved. . 🔺Begin in sidelying, hips stacked, spine neutral (watch out for too much 'tucking-under' of the pelvis - sitting bones should be pointing straight down toward opposite wall). Knees bent to 90 degrees and heels in line with sitting bones. 🔺Scoop abdominals in and up, lengthening both waists - avoid sinking into the side you are lying on; rather, there should be a slight tunnel under the waist. 🔺Lengthen top thigh slightly out and away from the hip joint; at the same time, rotate leg up toward ceiling, bringing sitting bones closer together and continuing to lengthen out through the knee. Control on the return. 👉Avoid tipping hips forward/back! If unable to stabilize pelvis, try lying with back against a wall. 👉Repeat until the muscles deep in the outer hip are really burning 🔥 👉Add resistance band for more challenge and strength. at Physiotherapy Stockholm

So I weighed myself today and realized that I’ve gained TWENTY pounds since I started lifting. That’s a lot of weight on a small person like me! And yes, I feel curvier (in a good way), but I don’t feel “bigger”, and I still wear the same size clothes. How is that possible? Because muscle weighs more per volume than fat does. Body composition is what matters, so screw the scale! I only pay attention to my weight when I’m tracking it in combination with bodyfat testing. The scale doesn’t tell you how much fat you have on your body, or how much muscle you’ve gained, or your dress size! . When I first started working out, I thought that if I could just do some cardio and lose 5 pounds or so, than I would “firm things up”😂 Man, I had SO much to learn! I didn’t need to lose weight, I needed to lose fat and gain muscle, which for me actually meant gaining weight! If you have goals of looking more “toned”, then you need to put on muscle, plain & simple. And muscle is heavy. Many people will add muscle while losing fat, making them look slimmer and appear more toned, yet not see losses on the scale quite like they had expected. This woman/fish.....and myself go way back..in a different way than most. 7 years ago I came across an ad for Mermaid auditions..of course I had missed the cut off date to apply😫😫 Few weeks later I came across this woman's profile and saw that she was a mermaid at the place i wanted to audition at! So I friended her and wrote her an email prying into her fabulous Mermaid life like a crazy person would😂😂 Anyways....we continued to connect and talk over the last 7 years, without ever meeting. She reached out to me several times when I really needed someone and I am forever grateful for that. Soooo long story short....we finally over a week ago we're able to really meet! We got to perform a whole weekend together and go out dancing! I was so happy I got to finally meet and connect with this beautiful soul, just love how life works like that. 🏪 🍌 Late night trip to the store (for snacks) looks like this......Bananas, mangos, strawberries, & blackberries because I couldn't resist. I'll be dividing up this beautiful fruit and using it all sorts of ways for my family and I this week. We eat too much to buy only a few pieces at a time, so I buy it in quantity, a few times a week. I don't know what we'd do without it! It pays to have multiples of something at home every once in a while...fruit is a choice that you can never go wrong with. It carries so much more good than bad and it's absolutely guilt free. It's got "good habits" written all over it and once it becomes part of who you are, it won't even be something you have to think about eating or buying---->(LIFESTYLE). It'll have your cart looking quite full and you haven't even left the produce section yet. At this point in my life I partied alot, ate all the wrong foods, did zero exercise and definitely was NOT comfortable in my own skin. I made every excuse under the sun to not workout and thought fad diets were the answer to my poor body image.. Right: This photo was taken today. I am 5 months post-partum, I am now a mother to two beautiful children, I eat correctly, I find time to exercise even with a busy schedule looking after my children and maintaining a home. I rarely have a drink and partying is non existent these days 😂😂. Who would have thought I would be where I am now, feeling more confident everyday due to my lifestyle changes 🏋️💪. Healthy eating is often mistakenly used synonymous to weightloss. Next time someone lecture you to lose weight with healthy eating or ask you to have junk for gaining weight, slap them on face (atleast try to get a mental image of the ceremony) and share my story. Past three days, I am down with a toothache and the dentist removed half of my tooth which was rootcanaled 20 years back. Though I wanted to eat to content, the pain and discomfort in the entire left side of my head maintained a significant distance between me and food. No veggies. No meat. No healthy food. I was having thick vanilla milk shake for breakfast. Plain icecreams, juices, puddings, butter, diwali sweets, etc for lunch and dinner and bite size normal food grabbed from other inmates' plates which I ingest with great trouble and a considerable amount of time. Today I weighed four kilograms lesser. Hurray.. lost all that weight I gained while doing some healthy eating when the foodie couple - @hana_hameed and @amjadz stayed with us for two weeks 😉 On the other hand, papa bear and cookie bear is still on their healthy eating plan. Plus I stocked some extra fresh veggies when I was all excited at the recently opened @carrefouruae in our neighbourhood mall. No weight loss! No inch loss! Moral of the story: if you badly want to shed that stubborn weight, go pull a tooth, or just half as I did, or get sick and smile at the scale. If you are thinking of weightloss at every meal time, you are having an eating disorder. Get treated. Please. . I've felt so comfortable in my own skin lately. I've just been eating right (with the occasional treat meal) trying to get more rest and workout as much as I can as time permits. My body has responded really well to what I've been feeding it. I'm so happy to not be doing extreme crazy diets and over exercising. Our bodies love when we are good to them. It's so easy to compare our chapter 1 with someone else's chapter 10. It's so easy to look at a glam pic and think that life is perfect and they are so lucky. (Let me enlighten you...we are SO blessed but we WORK hard for our dreams and this is a crazy hard season in A LOT of ways but this amazing shot by @kgilgan_photography makes us look pretty cute😍)We all have to start at the SAME PLACE. My race started 2 and a half years ago when I heard these 3 words and finally took the action that had been on my heart for months---> WHY. NOT. YOU? . At that MOMENT- I was scared but thought ... 'Yeah!! Why not me? Why am I accepting a life of playing it safe? Why am I not showing my kiddos what life CAN look like?! Why are we stressing on living pay check to pay check and feeling like we can NEVER get ahead? I realized that the only thing holding me back was the fear of what others would think of me...silly I know. So I took some major action- focused on CHANGE- set my VISION on FREEDOM and went for it. I started with ZERO money- seriously I signed up as a coach for free because I got my $40 reimbursed. BUT I TREATED IT like I had spent $100,000 to open my own business. When you treat it like a business- you BUILD THE BUSINESS!!! I got out of my own head. I stopped the excuses of: NO MONEY. LITTLE TIME. WORKING FULL TIME. TODDLER WHO DID NOT SLEEP. A FIRE FIGHTER HUSBAND. ---and the list goes on! I GOOGLED everything and literally gave myself NO PLAN B. And guess what? After just a year and a half of hard work- sacrifices- learning on my own and just doing it---> I've accomplished some pretty incredible dreams and many more to come! - my team GROWING across the USA, Canada and the UK! I’m able to help 100’s of women regain their confidence and fitness. - ALL our groceries each month covered completely through a WEEK'S worth of coaching pay. - our mortgage and student loans completely paid for through coaching. -Ability to donate to causes and issues on my heart. - travel and FREEDOM! A couple of months ago I laid on the bedroom floor incapacited from pain. Desperate to make the physical pain end, I stepped back and looked at what my kids lives would be like on the daily without me, how my hubby would manage the household... I contemplated suicide. As a bodybuilding fitness buff, I was in an all or nothing- don't stop until you're fucking done- make it happen, no excuses kind of mentality. I had been through difficult and trying times, I have endured a lot and always gotten through. I had built a fitness business surrounding this headspace and it served me well for the most part. What I didn't show because I was too hard headed to come to terms with is how badly my body was falling apart. Fitness has been my identity for so long that I would struggle through the incapacitating pain, the bloat, the skin issues, the anxiety/depression, joint pain, migraines. What would people think if they knew the truth. I felt like a fraud and wrestled with the wtf do I do, i can't live like this anymore battles in my head. How am I still going to run the business successfully when I can't even function! This summer I hit rock bottom. The pain got to the point where I could not function and I didn't have a choice. I prayed hard. I knew I needed help but didn't have a clue where to start. God answered. He sent me two women who have been pivotal in my healing and in my journey. One with the health issues and the other with my business. I finally started honoring that my body clearly needed time to heal. So I gave up my bodybuilding, reduced my training from intense to light, started a zillion supplements, started working on growing internally. Instead of using the iron as my therapy I started doing deep spiritual work. My biggest struggle aside from my health was how do I maintain a business that I physically can't keep up with? Enter my mentor. Both the pup and I are recovering from serious abdominal surgery. I'm 10 weeks out from an unplanned Caesarean section; she's 2 days out from a spay. I'm taking it easy and just now easing back into exercise. She was bouncing off the walls today wanting to go out for a run (which she is not yet allowed). 💪Only started training my upper body about two months ago... I train upper body two days a week, one of the days focused on shoulders and back and the other day on biceps and triceps. As each week has gone on I have not only gotten more comfortable and confident with different exercises and trying new things, especially in the last few weeks, but also testing heavier weights. Nice to see some progress and little definition happening again. I actually love working on upper body now and very excited I decided to stop focusing sooo much on my legs and give my arms and back some love too. Takes the pressure off trying to get fast results on just my legs and butt and makes everything more fun. PS... It wasn't even arm day today!!! Tag me in your favorite upper body videos please. I love learning new moves. #strongissexy

What a great day! I did almost everything I wanted to do! One of my favorite things today was going to my first spin class in Houston @rideindoorcycling! Riley’s class today was amazing and just what I needed to re-energize me and get the ultimate sweat! I had a busy morning taking my son to his tutors and then to school. It is cold and raining out today and the last thing I wanted to do was workout this afternoon. I would have preferred to sit on the couch with a warm blanket. Instead i chose to put on my workout clothes and press play. Why? Because I am worth 30 min a day. Sweat Intervals kicked my booty. 3 weeks today with our little Eira. I couldn't care less about my belly. But here's a bit about what's been happening in our third week postpartum. Yesterday I called my midwife & I'll add here that I'm so grateful to have someone so attentive look after me and my little ones. She also took care of Seth and I. I was concerned about constant somewhat dim weird pain in my uterus a return of blood loss & a feeling of swelling. I'd been pushing all of these symptoms to the back of my mind thinking has to be normal right. I'm only in my first 3 weeks postpartum. Even though I new it was completely different to my recovery after Seth. But Eira's different so my body must be too 🤷🏽‍♀️. Anyways long story short. Trust your instincts ladies. With Everything!!! It seems I have an infection in my uterus and an ultrasound today found some placenta left over after Eira's birth. Something not uncommon apparently. Seems I'll be going into hospital for a procedure to have it removed. Not looking forward to that but thank goodness it should not have an affect on my feeding Eira. & aren't we lucky to live in a country where we have access to all forms of medical treatments. Yesterday I was concerned about Eira. & if all this would affect my ability to feed my baby. Something so important to me it's hard to put into words. They've put me on a lot of antibiotics to fight the infection and seems I'll be on more in the near future. There was a chance Eira could have a reaction to the antibiotics or one of the antibiotics could change the flavour of my milk. (I'm taking 2) But she seems fine in both regards. What a relief !! So Dr's tomorrow for more answers. & grateful today for amazing care from my midwife. & medicine to get me better. If anyone has any advice on healing Eira's & my gut flora after all the antibiotics pls share 🙋🏽. We will get her an infant probiotic, I'm taking probiotics, & will get more in through food and drink. But any other advice would be great.

My food for the day minus my grilled nuggets from Chick fil a because I inhaled them before my 2 year old made me take her to the “play place” as she calls it. 😊 Total macros(including the chicken not pictured) 132p/89c/31f. I used @bolthousefarms yogurt ranch dressing for my salads. And as always @halotopcreamery was amazing!!!!! S’mores ice cream is delish! I think I like the peanut butter cup better but it’s a close call. I’m under on protein and carbs but I’m not hungry and it’s late so 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m half way through my final week of @iheartmacros 30 day cut program. Hi guys! Some of you will see me and know me from my previous ‘fit page’ and some will know me from my personal page. So many were following me when I took down my previous page. There is a reason for that. I was going through what will likely go down as one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through in my life. Separation and divorce. When you saw me before, I was sharing things as an adoptive mom, married and losing weight post fertility treatment and diagnosis of PCOS and endometriosis. Well, I also was able to share that through my lifestyle change to Paleo, I not only lost 70lbs, but was able to get pregnant (by surprise) with Miss Nora Lane. After having this beautiful baby girl, my ex-husband and I separated and decided on divorce. I still went on to lose 100lbs!! Part of the stress of divorce likely contributed to the ease of that. I couldn’t eat much and was working out to relieve stress. I hit some hard moments, scary hard, but got healthy again physically and even more in my heart and mind. So, I’m here again. Tonight thanks to @alamoe my girl @ashboogs85 and I hosted a fitness and nutrition event for a Girl Scout Troop. 14 young girls and their moms. We put them through a 30 min workout and then talked healthy habits. Things like food is fuel. Speak positively to yourself and others. Drink water not soda. Sleep. And we reminded them how amazing their moms are. It was a privilege to spend time with them.
