I didn't even come close to PRing, but I survived a race that I was entirely unprepared for! I met some amazing people along the course, but I was most thankful to have met Rose, who looked dizzy and dazed around mile 21. I was DEEP in the pain cave at that point, so I was more than happy/relieved to jump over and try to help her. This was Rose's 3rd Marine Corps Marathon, and she said it bests her every time! So we hobbled our way to water, and we continued on together the rest of the race. We fueled a lot, talked a lot, and walked a lot, but we crossed the finish line together. And it's experiences like this one that keep me running! It hurts and it punishes you in so many ways, but it gives you so much more worth celebrating. As I sit here icing a very probable stress fracture and reflect on the amazing accomplishment that is a marathon, I'm just so thankful to be able to physically do something of this magnitude. Even if I'm gonna be feeling it for severrrallllll days! Loving ๐Ÿ˜my new workout program this week. Workouts are 25-30 minutes and full body focused. . I used to kill myself with an hour or more of elliptical or stair climbers at the gym and I'd see NO change in my muscle tone, flexibility, or weight. . I didn't understand that strength training and using your own body weight while exercising was so important for toning and weight loss. . Now I'm a happy camper. I'm more toned and actually NOT exhausted from my workout. Instead I'm energized BECAUSE of it. And because of my results from it! . Reach out if you're sick of killing yourself in the gym doing cardio and not seeing any change. Thanks to the invite from my friend Rachel, I got to run "with" (meaning, I saw them at the start and got passed up by all of them during the second loop) the Gophers women cross country team at Jack's Twilight Run on the Les Bolstad golf course tonight. My first ever cross country course and my first ever 6k, so an automatic PR! And considering I've been in marathon training mode (aka, focusing more on distance vs speed) I'm pretty dang impressed I was able to hit those paces today (8:25 overall pace with negative splits)! The company was great, the course was beautiful and their coach was super approachable and answered questions after the race. I'm thinking I'll be back next year! at University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course

Another pre dawn easy run in the books with @erinamg ! Excited to run the Ghost Race tomorrow. Itโ€™s so important to take easy runs EASY. Itโ€™s another thing I wish I knew back in college. My easy runs were always around 8 min miles or faster. Actually, I donโ€™t really remember taking official easy days unless they were the day before a race. Currently, Iโ€™m training using Danielโ€™s Running Formula which is based off VDOT, which uses races performance to assign a value. This is different from VO2 max which is lab test. A runner can have similar VDOT but different VO2 max. Based off a bunch off different tests charts were made for how fast intervals, threshold paces, marathon pace, etc. were made. This prevents over training! Base off my current VDOT, my easy runs should be no faster then 8:35. This lets me know that even if I feel good on an easy run NO FASTER then 8:35. I definitely would run my easy runs faster if I didnโ€™t have charts as a reference. Pic is from last weekโ€™s pre dawn run! We finished way before the sun came up today!
