The Hanging Around the World became one my new favorite core variations because of its ability to work rotational core strength. - I found some nice carryover of the exercise in playing softball. If you find you're not strong enough to hold on onto a pull-up bar, try the movement on the ground. - Lie on your back and lift your legs towards the ceiling. Rotate your legs from side to side with control just like a windshield wiper. Building relationships between students and clients is one of our goals for the KYN program. #Repost @alaskanmandalorian with @get_repost ・・・ Today was Day 2 of Know Your Numbers at @uaa_hpl and I got to do a little #bodybuilding training with @ak_muscle_made as part of the program. The program is great as it tests all kinds of different things including a body fat analysis using the bod pod, muscular endurance, a functional movement screen, and a V02 submax test. It was a great introduction to somebody building stuff as I'm hoping to try to do a stage late next year or possibly early 2020. at UAA: University of Alaska Anchorage

Hanging Around the World – ATW. - This year, in my own training I prioritized experimenting with gymnastics skills. I liked this move because of its ability to strengthen my lat pull down and straight arm strength. This improved the gymnastics ring work I was playing around with. It’s also a really nice variation for core work. - The goal is to maintain a tight body with straight legs and feet together. Start from hanging and raise your legs as high as you can in a circular motion. - If you’re a newbie to this move, consider trying the movement with your knees tucked. Then, progress by straightening your legs. Your target is to increase the height of your legs as you gain strength and range of motion. - Upload your attempts and tag @alfa_coaching. The Romanian Deadlift is a bending variation that I like to use for developing and strengthening the posterior chain as well as teaching clients how to properly hinge at the hip. - Start the movement from the top down and lower to the extent of flexibility in the hamstrings. Setup is similar to a conventional deadlift from the ground. Key points as you lower down is to send the hips back ensuring that you maintain a flat back. HUGE congrats to Hong Kong remote coaching client, Emily, on her recent PR back squat of 93kg which is an improvement of 18kg since April! - #Repost @ejeosann ··· Massive PR on my back squat today. I’m so extremely happy about this. It shows that: - 1. Hard work pays off. 2. I’m not too old for this. 3. it feels DAMN GOOD to see results. 4. it is ALLL worth it thank you very much @erwinjay @alfa_coaching - what you’re planning is working. - 5. and perhaps most importantly, the mind is so powerful. I didn’t pay attention to numbers as I was testing today because I realized I had the advantage of not knowing where I was at (last time I tested I was working in KG, now in Hong Kong I’m working in LBS). This meant that I didn’t have anything to compare against, and only had my own present tense physical experience to relate to. Had I known what I “should” be aiming for, I would probably only gotten a comfortable PR. 5kg, 6kg Maybe. But because I wasn’t working off of a preconceived notion of what I “can” do, I lifted 18KG/39LBS more than I did in April. So wow. Just wow.

What we think we’re assessing vs what we’re actually assessing ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👨‍🏫 Movement screens are often used as a part of an initial assessment of a client’s ability to perform certain exercises. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🛠 They’re designed to measure aspects of performance that may be relevant to the clients goals. When done effectively they should be modified to suit the client’s ability level and should ideally be movements that are likely to be used during training 🏋️‍♂️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, there are so many things can can affect the way we move that sometimes when we’re asking clients to perform exercises it’s wise to be aware of what you may actually be watching 👀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Think of an action as simple as walking 🚶‍♂️something you can do smoothly, in a controlled way and without much concentration or effort ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now picture how anxiety would impact your ability to walk normally if you were walking on the edge of a skyscraper 🏙! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Think about how you feel when you’re being assessed. Your driving test or your last exam, perhaps an interview. Now think about how your client may move as a result of your first session with them being an ‘assessment’. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🔑 Here are some key things to consider when designing your assessment process ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Are formal assessments needed or useful for every client? Reassessment week for @tribeteamtrainingonline Life sessions season 6 @lifelabuk There was a little confusion over my score from week 1 which meant I started with someone else's weight and score 😂 Despite that I kept going with increased weight and still smashed my initial score. Extremely happy with that! Well done to Dom who also beat his score. I think we were both spurring each other on.
