Self Care Challenge Day 5 - Friday April 3, 2020 (Belated..oops!) ✏️Write down an affirmation & post somewhere. The use of affirmations is a excellent tool for replacing negative thoughts with positive ones, and to help get motivated to work towards a goal. My personal affirmation: “I can: I am strong, I am focused, I am worthy, I am filled with energy and crave joyful movement!” I started teaching fitness as a way to motivate myself to exercise. And yes it absolutely worked! Between teaching classes and practicing (Zumba, Kelani, or Yoga), I incorporated joyful movement in my life. Something I have learned through yoga.. called “personal practice”. I never realized the need for a personal practice up until recent. In addition, previously teaching 5 classes a week I felt like I didn’t have the time for a personal practice. Yoga is not just a fitness class. It’s meditation, it’s a spiritual practice, it’s an incorporation of self care as we come to our mats without judgement or competition. I need a personal practice, for ME. Even if it’s just 10 minutes in my PJs! So this is my affirmation. To get me motivated. To get into the mindset I need to begin a personal practice. ❓What is your affirmation? sweat break 💦 . it’s that time! put some 🧦 on & find your slipperiest floor! . I call this apocalypse training. it doesn’t look like much, but these moves will help you steel up for some crazy shit, lifting heavy shit, or just growing up to be an old person. 🧓🏽 . 1. floor crushers 🖐 under the natural curve in your back, but not under the tailbone. breathe in thru your nose, crushing your hands with your breath. exhale thru your mouth as you keep crushing your 🖐 🤚. . 2. glute bridges use your breath to close the gap between your back & the floor. exhale, squeezing your glutes to raise your hips. do not use your back for this. . 3. hamstring curls slide those 🧦 out, without dropping hips & back in. the more pressure/friction, the tougher. . 4. hamstring curls + supine marching keep those hips up as you add a march to each hammy curl. . try these moves out. . #sweatbreak #bodyweightworkout #bodyweightexercises #homeworkout #socialdistancing #5minuteworkout #queertrainer #bodypositivemovement #fitnessforallbodies

Self Care Challenge Day 4 - Thursday April 2, 2020 Lets take a moment today and just breathe. When we feel any stress or anxiety we tend to hold our breath creating tension in our bodies. Our breath is always there for us whenever we need it. So let’s begin a breathing exercise right now. Yoga counted breath: we inhale on an even count as the exhale with a slight pause in between. So beginning either in a seated pose or lying down, beginning focussing on your natural breath. Beginning your counts on your inhale 1,2,3,4,5,6 pause then exhaling 1,2,3,4,5,6. Repeat this 3 times, or as many times you feel is needed. Come back to your natural breath. Take a few moments here. How do you feel? Relaxed? Calm? Hi! It’s Kathleen. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Aaron’s girlfriend and I have been working along side Aaron to run Weekend Warriors’ social media feeds. Usually, every post and story is created by the two of us together. At the very least, it is approved by him. This post is NOT like that. This post is a complete HIJACK of the account without him knowing. Why? Because on this day, he deserves a HUGE appreciation post. It’s not his birthday. It’s not our anniversary. It’s just a normal day of social distancing but it is a day where I got to step back and see what an impact he makes in people’s lives first hand. I had a great morning, a productive afternoon and then all of a sudden an anxious and angry (...trust me) early evening. I decided to go with Aaron to participate in his live zoom class. Within 5 minutes of moving and listening to him cheer on the other members participating, I could feel like anxiety and bitterness dissipate. Listen, I’ve always known that exercise improves your mood. And I may be biased, but man does Aaron’s exercise and enthusiasm do that. So, here’s my LONG post to tell you all how amazing this guy is. He hates compliments and will likely hate that I did this. But, in a time of such stress and questions around his business and future, he puts himself in the forefront for us members and I don’t even think he knows how much of a difference he makes each day, each rep and each time he yells PUSH IT! Everytime I get wrapped up in what body movements should look or feel like, I remember this. Being active doesn't have to have a plan. It can be running around in grass, or taking deep breaths while skipping rocks near a river. * What does "play" look like to you? Does it bring you joy? Are you finding peace in participating? If so, do that.

Circuit 1 : It is a drop set you will start of from 10 reps and every set youvwill reduce 1 rep from the next set so you start from 10 reps and last set sill only have 1 rep of each exercise. I need abdominal work to keep my spine open and happy. My fibromyalgia attacks my spine all day long. The more flexible and stretched the more mobility and less pain. F L O W I N G// my way into a new month, at home, whether I like it or not. To say I miss my yoga studio would be an understatement, but what I’ve learned from the amazing people I’ve been able to practice with and learn from up until this point is that you can flow wherever and whenever you want because yoga itself is fluid. There aren’t any rules, you listen to your body, you lean in to what it’s telling you and you go from there. The best part is that you don’t need anything but yourself and right now that’s all we really got #thephilasophy . . . I’ve been trying {emphasis on trying} to start everyday with a gentle flow to wake myself up and it’s been really helpful for getting in a positive headspace, which we all need right now✨✨ Here are a few of my favorite feel good movements// ✨5 deep cleansing breaths ✨Alternating neck stretch into neck rolls ✨Arm circles ✨Cat/Cows ✨Hip rocks ✨Child pose ✨Downward dog to flip dog ✨Go through the entire sequence 2-3 times after you’ve made your bed and before your first cup of coffee! For the past two weeks, getting through my workouts has been a total slog. 🔹 I’m slow to get started 🔹 A few days I’ve ended a few minutes early (totally NOT like me!) 🔹 The quality of my workouts hasn’t been stellar (meaning that I haven’t been challenging myself - I’m choosing easy over what’s best) BUT during these times 🔸 something is better than nothing 🔸 the purpose behind the workouts is stress management - clearing my brain & nothing more. (not caloire burning, fat loss, or muscle growth) 🔸 there will be a time again when I’m focused on getting stronger or leaner or faster. That time is just not now. This is a time to give yourself compassion - which, let’s be clear, is not letting yourself off the hook. I’m still exercising because its good for me & it makes me feel better. I’m still eating lots of vegetables because I like how I feel when I eat them. I’m still off sugar & flour because in the times that I’ve eaten them, not only do I feel terrible, but my hot flashes come back. All of the health habits that I do, I do them because of how they make me feel. One of the things I do with my clients is to help them determine their bare freakin minimums to maintain their health during times of stress. This is one of those times that determining them ahead of time can help create some compassion for yourself. What are your bare freakin minimums? Don’t know? You might move differently right now. Your workouts need to be flexible, especially as you fine tune the skill of sensing what’s happening in your body and being able to respond accordingly. More specifically, you might move a lot slower in order to hold space for emotions, you might notice aches or pains that need to be accommodated, or you might notice that your capacity for movement is different than usual. It's all okay and completely normal. . . This is what we mean when we talk about moving authentically, or moving however you show up. . . The truth is, we need movement now more than ever. It's the key to resiliency. It's one of the primary ways you can support your immune system, sooth your nervous system, and we all know the impact it has on mental health. So even if your movement practice doesn't look like it did a week ago, or if you're not sure what to do, I urge you to continue to move. . . Diet culture and “fitspo” influencers coming at you during Covid like...👉🏼 Drink lots of water.💧 Get lots of Vitamin C.🍊 Eat your Greens🥬 (And nothing else because survival mode is a great time for a juice cleanse...)🙄 Literally never stop exercising🏃🏻‍♀️ (Aka never stop trying to lose weight you must look the same after you exit isolation, bodies don’t change in response to their environment as protection mechanisms. Be afraid of a changing body)🙄 〰️ PSA Diet Culture still sucks and still loves selling you sh*t rolled in glitter. Yes drinking more water and consuming more vitamin c are super sweet for your immune system but what I’ve been seeing far and wide is that those recommendations are also come with a side of restricting a lot of other foods that our bodies need to function right now. Survival mode is not the time for restriction!🙅🏻‍♀️ You are still allowed to listen to your body during this unpredictable time❤️ REMINDERS👇🏼 You’re doing your best.🙏🏼 Your best is good enough.🤗 You’re allowed to listen to your body.👂🏼 Your body is in protection mode, it may change. A changed body is not a ruined body, change is a sign of life. The only thing telling you that weight gain in survival is a bad thing is Fatphobia.👎🏼 You deserve nourishing foods that make you feel good and energized, but food has no moral value.
