I was so caught up in fad diets to get fit quick and I was always told myself "eh oh well I could always get plastic surgery later" (I'm not against it but I thought I could rely on it). - I always felt sluggish, tired, and holy sh*t I couldn't walk outside during summer time with my thighs chaffing away. It was horrid. Not only that, but I was weak. I had almost ZERO muscle I swear lol. - The first thing to change was MINDSET. I cannot stress the importance of changing your outlook on things. The rest such as confidence, motivation, and physical changes follow after your mindset is right. I get asked all the time how I stay motivated; it's because I actually ENJOY eating what I eat and doing what I do. It had become a part of my every day life. I'm not saying y'all should start lifting weights because not everyone likes to which is fine. There are OTHER activities too!☺️ - I have my days where I'm like "eh I don't want to go to the gym" or "I want a fat 🍔 with 🍟 and a milkshake". Which is fine! I want a rest day? I give myself that. I want a burger? I go get one. That's HOW I keep myself consistent. I LET myself do those things WITHOUT punishment. I don't view it as a setback because it's NOT (unless y'all compete lol post show treat 😝🤗). Don't think about it a dead line. That's how your rebound HARD or even crash diet. Don't do it for a "summer body" or an event. Do it for you.👍🏽🙌🏽" ---

Still walking into the gym doing 3 sets of 10 every exercise? 🤦‍♂️ You need a PLAN. . 📈Above are two sample workout plans. One changes the workload on a weekly basis and the other changes it in a daily basis. But both seek to do the following: . 1️⃣ Provide a systematic progression of volume/intensity. 2️⃣Keep workouts fresh and engaging. 3️⃣Works in 1 month "cycles". Each cycle is dedicated to a specific focus - hypertrophy, endurance, strength, or power. You can alternate the focus month to month or stick with the same one for consecutive months, or whatever you desire. . 💣Now it's important that you know your 1 Rep Max (1RM) as you're going to use % of that 1RM to determine your workload in each cycle. Generally, hypertrophy work is done with weight equivalent to 65-80% 1RM/ strength - 70-90% / endurance - 60-80% / and power - 85%+. . 💶One last thing - notice the relationship between intensity (how heavy the weight is aka 1RM as it's shown here) and the volume of work we do with it. In strength training, the volume typically decreases as intensity increases. In hypertrophy work, that isn't always necessarily the case. Hypertrophy responds well to increasing volume over time. Intensity increases MAY accompany rises in volume but it's not uncommon to work with the same weight and simply up the volume done. . 📺In any case, this is just a mere example. There are millions of ways to program a workout because there's endless ways to do it AND every person's goals and fitness levels are different. So this is really just a visual guide to show you that having a PLANNED SYSTEM OF PROGRESSION is not only wise, but necessary after that glorious beginner phase is over and progress isn't so rapid. . 💬COMMENT! In our @xtend_barre classes we traditionally use 0.5kg weights, you will also see 1kg weights in our props cupboard - these are usually for our H.I.I.T Classes where you are working at a higher interval = less reps x more weight & in a Barre Class the goals is = more reps x less weight - Why? Improved Endurance Lifting lighter weights often means you’re able to perform more repetitions for each exercise you complete. Studies show that while completing eight to 12 repetitions – often performed using heavier weights -- helps improve strength and power, doing 15 to 20 reps using lighter weights helps improve your muscular endurance - which can improve your overall endurance during weight-training or cardiovascular workouts. You will notice in our classes you are working to counts of 8 and often doing 4 reps in each move = 32 Reps. BOOM. Toned Muscles vs BULK A potential benefit of performing more repetitions using light weights - instead of heavy weights - is you likely won’t create a bulky, muscular look but instead a lean, toned physique, especially when you combine this with the cardio element of an @xtend_barre class! Low Injury Risks In general, lifting light weights has a lower risk for injury than heavier lifting. The lighter the weight you’re lifting, the less likelihood of injury. When I told @jg47872 that we were going to workout on vacation, I don’t think she thought I was serious 😬😳 Nothing like a quick 😂 cardio session after the beach to break her in! Not only was it an amazing cardio session, but this was our “bonus” round. I think at this moment I was telling her “quess what, we have to do this twice” 😂🤣!! 💥You Need To Eat: Simple Portions💥 - I’ve been getting a lot of questions on nutrition and how to gain weight so hopefully with these next couple of posts I can help. “You need to eat” is what most people will tell you and you probably already knew that yourself. But how much to eat and when should I eat it? - I really like what Precision Nutrition does when it comes to simplifying things for their coaching clients. This graphic on portions sizes is great if you are unsure on how much food you should be getting each meal. It also comes in handy if you don’t have a food scale on hand to measure out your food. - GENERAL MEASUREMENT GUIDELINES 🍗Protein: 1 serving= size of your palm=4 oz 2 palmed sized portions of protein per meal for men🤚🏼🤚🏼 Women should get 1 palm sized portion of protein per meal.🤚🏼 Protein sources: Eggs/Egg Whites, Chicken breasts, Salmon, Shrimp, Grass Fed Beef, Beans and Lentils - 🍚Carbohydrates: 1 serving=1 fist=3/4 cup Women should get 1 serving of carbs per meal.👊🏼 Men should get 1-2 servings.👊🏼👊🏼 Carb Sources: Oats, sweet, red, and white potatoes, brown rice, jasmine rice, fruit 🍌🍓🍊🍏🍅 Side Note : I feel like carbs get a bad rap because people think they need to cut them out completely to lose fat and it’s simply not true. What doesn’t get talked about a lot is carbohydrate timing meaning the time of day you’re eating carbs. If you need to gain weight you need to be eating carbs every meal but especially BEFORE training, DURING training, and AFTER training. If you need to to lose weight you’ll want to eat most of your carbs post workout.
