#transformationtuesday Honestly, transformation goes far deeper than how you look on the outside. While my body may look much different than it did on the left (August 2016), what you cannot see is how I FEEL! Changing my diet, my exercise and my overall mentality on health and fitness completely transformed me from within. . I used to dread working out. Now I GET to workout. And I look forward to it. . This week's focus: rhomboides 💪💪 - Where are they? Basically where you see a big whole with no muscles on my back 😂😱 - To be more precise, they start at the top of your spine (C7-T5 vertebrae) and finish on the medial side of your scapula - They retract your scapula, bringing it closer to the spine and also keeping it close to the rib cage. If you typically have "winging scaps" like I do, the rhomboides don't fire properly 😬 - Not a big deal in every day life, but it's an area I need to correct asap for the upcoming shows 😁🤙 - The biggest thing im working right now is to properly engage them, light weights, feeling the contraction. Once I get better at that, then the fun parts with heavy lifting starts👌remember though it's not good to go super heavy if you compensate with other muscles 😜 - Tomorrow I'll show you my favourite exercises to build them up 💪🔥💪🔥💪 at Vancouver, British Columbia

Gearing up at sunset for our Bioluminescent Night Kayaking Tour in Tomales Bay. Bioluminescence is present for a couple of months a year when all the variables align: water temperature, air temperature, winds, currents, and tides. On a moonless night we are able to see dinoflaggelates, small organisms, that “light up” the water a brilliant green when they are displaced (similar to a broken glow stick). If you haven't witnessed the magic of bioluminescence, I highly recommend this experience with Point Reyes Outdoors! ✨✨🚣‍♀️P.S. Haven't been having the best week and it's only Tuesday.. feeling like nothing is going right and just kind of in a slum. Haven't been able to train so it's really starting to throw me off but getting in the gym to do some cardio helps a taddddd bit. Hate being in these moods but ya know what? They pass. I will get back into the grove of things and not dwell on all the bad things yet enjoy and embrace all the good my life has to offer. Not one person in this world is happy every day of their life. We all get in our moods, we get sad, mad, upset, etc. it's life and shit happens and tomorrow's another day to try and make it a good one! ❤️

Here's an example illustrating someone who has a maintenance level of 1800 calories. Both days they "eat clean" but on day 1 they eat 1500 (under maintenance calories by 300) and the next they eat 2100 (over maintenance by 300). . If they continued to eat the same way they did on day 2 they would gain weight since it’s over their maintenance calories. It doesn’t matter that the food was clean. . Moral of the story: eating clean doesn’t automatically result in weight loss. 💡 . Does it help? In some ways yes. You’re a lot less likely to overeat things like sweet potatoes than potato chips. 🥔🍩You’ll also get more micronutrients and a host of other benefits. 👌🏼 . ❗️However, clean eating will not always result in fat loss. It will work as long as you maintain a caloric deficit. That is the key. 🔑 . If fat loss is your goal, focus on maintaining a caloric deficit, eating a variety of nutrient dense food (aka “clean”), sprinkle in treats as needed, and of course, a solid training plan will only add to the end result. 💪🏼 . ❓Questions? Each group (protein, carbs, and fat) each have a unique role in the functioning of the body. . 1️⃣Protein is crucial for more than building muscle. 💪🏼It also provides structure to our cells/tissues, regulates metabolism, controls biochemical reactions, cell repair and more. Each gram of protein contains 4 calories . 2️⃣Carbs, while often demonized, are quite essential. 🥔🍌🍞They are our main energy source and the main fuel source for the body and help with physical activities, brain function, waste elimination and proper organ function. Each gram of carbohydrates contains 4 calories. . 3️⃣Last in the group is fats.
