At the annual AVAC Christmas Party this year, management decided to surprise everyone and hand out awards in each department. This happened while Josh and I were still at HIS work party and hadn’t made it over yet (every year our work holiday parties fall on the same day unfortunately) But I was MOST surprised to hear I had gotten the Fitness ‘Department Employee of the Year’ award!! @cscordova8 called it The Rick Ross award because ‘everyday I’m hustling’ 😂💗👌 • • Truth is, I HAVE been hustling this year. From fine tuning my program by doing class surveys, holding free events at outside venues, following up on email leads, opening up more class times, and continually finding ways to make class a fun, challenging, current, as well as a tight community of motivated/driven ladies! Another TRUTH, I wouldn’t have been able to constantly fill classes, get as many leads, or even make my vision come to life without my AVAC team. Starting with @cscordova8 who first heard my idea and never questioned it, instead only found ways to keep opening doors for each idea I had. The marketing team, @stephdoty who has made endless flyers (sometimes on a days notice!), sent countless email blasts highlighting my class, and has always been on board for any way to tweek or improve the look and feel of class! @missdivazar for sharing posts on IG, taking class photos and helping design tank tops! Our onsite nutritionist Laura Hsu for always making time each session to host a FREE seminar for my new ladies. All the Fitness staff have been so encouraging and supportive as I’ve found my way! And of course Joe Shank for giving me the chance to be apart of team AVAC, giving me the flexibility to really make this program what it is, and being my biggest fan! It really means a lot to have so much love, support and appreciation for what I love to do. This workplace makes an effort to let me know that, through words of affirmation, incentives, and even awards! OCCLUSION TRAINING💪🏽 by @macrolabnutrition 💪🏽Occlusion or Blood Flow Resistance (BFR) Training involves occluding circulation to the working muscle. This is done by wrapping a strap/cloth around the limb whilst performing the exercise. This occludes venous flow without really affecting arterial flow to the muscle, thus blood can enter the muscle but not leave (Loenneke et al., 2012)🔥 . 🏋🏻‍♀️BFR has been shown to increase hypertrophy and strength during low intensity exercise compared to normal training (Lowery et al., 2014). The exact mechanism for this increased hypertrophy isn't known. Wilson et al. (2013), showed that BFR doesn't increase muscle damage, hence why it's so useful in rehab (Hughes et al., 2017). So, the consensus is that it's superior due to increased metabolic stress (Loenneke et al., 2012) , which a driver of hypertrophy (Schoenfeld 2010)✅ . 👌It's recommended to use 20-30% 1RM for 20-25 reps with 30 seconds rest in between. Tightness should be a perceived 7/10. We’re all constantly told what we want or what we should be, even if we’re not fully aware of it. . Through ads, through being sold things and through narratives. Insta is constantly telling us what to be as popular culture changes. . I used to want to be ultra thin, and I thought because of what I saw and read crazy diets and starvation was the way. (I think most of us are even still trying to recover our brows from the thin plucking stage as well 😂) . Then it was curvy- an hourglass figure with big boobs and big bum which was never going to be a reality for me anyway #smallboobsbigdreams . Now with the fitness culture online, it’s muscly and athletic. It feels like ultra ‘fit’ is the goal and even though it masquerades as a ‘healthy' trend- it’s still a trend and it can be just as damaging as all the previous trends. . These constantly changing fads put pressure on us in all walks of life. We think we’ve achieved one unachievable goal and then the goal posts move, what is ‘needed’ of us all changes. Stop starving yourself, eat avocados and drown in protein powder and supps becomes the knew rhetoric. . I’m trying to step back from pop culture and what everyone else is doing and think what do I actually want. I got asked what my training goals were the other day and I don’t really have any. I love the gym, but I don’t want to fall out of love with it by making it a chore and setting goals that I don’t even know if I care about hitting at the moment. Shock horror, maybe I’m not tooo fussed about having goals in every single aspect of my life🤷🏼‍♀️ . I want to be happy, no matter what that means. If that means strength training- cool. If that means some hiit and cardio to sweat it out- cool. And if that means spending my Saturday night with a glass of wine and sacking off the gym- cool👍🏼 . This culture of comparison and competition has been heightened by social media ten fold. It’s human nature to compare and compete, but compare and compete with yourself, always. Find what you want to do and stick with it. Don’t feel pressured by anything you see others doing, just find what makes you happy no matter what it is🌟 . Hey lovely people🌟 . I meant this for #humpday, but I suppose today will do😅 Yesterday I went for a high rep lower weight day and my body is totally thanking me for it! . If you swipppeee👉🏼👉🏼 I’ve posted a few vids of my stretching routine and warm up. (I was going to post more vids but insta has been glitching all day and then posted this 4 times 🙃). Stretching is something I’ve always loved from my years of dance, but it’s so much more crucial for me now because of my dodgy joints 🙃 . I then did some kettlebell work with 3 x 10 swings and 3 x 10 straight leg deads on each leg🌟 . My main workout was: Squats- focusing on form and ROM Leg press Leg extensions and Romanian Deadlifts with DB💫 . My legs weren’t completely obliterated by the end, but sometimes that just isn’t necessary! Don't stop believing in yourself. No matter what happens. ✖️ We all go through life's hardships. You can't see it on Social media though where everyone posts their most glorious moments and pictures, but we all go through tough times. We all come to crossroads where we don't know which way to go. We all break down. We all meet those negative toxic people who don't share our vision or dreams who tries to pull us down to their level of toxicity and negative frame of mind. But no matter what happens don't you stop believing in yourself. Have faith in yourself. In your path. If you don't clearly see the path infront of you, believe - take action - and it will appear. Stay strong. #believeinyourself - always. 👍

You are what you eat! If you put shit food into your body it will respond in kind with a myriad of health issues, and it is not always an immediate response! The human body is great at adapting to whatever fuel source you put into it, but that doesn’t mean it won’t eventually break down. Eat earth grown foods as much as possible, high good fats, moderate protein, and low carbs. Cut out all the sugar you possibly can, hydrate with water not drinks with additives, and try fasting every now and then!  Remember, there are no free lunches! It will not always be easy but everything earned from hard work and discipline will make you feel so much better in the long run!

I had an interesting conversion with someone about why they don’t workout. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to be healthy or loss some weight. It was being uncomfortable about how people would judge them for being out of shape while they were in the gym. It was a concept that blew my mind. I was like “everyone is in the gym to get in shape just like you.” So here’s some advice: Do not give a single fuck about anyone else’s opinion when you go into the gym. Everyone is there do work through their own issues just like you. Walk in the gym without giving a single fuck about anything other than your workout. Go in, push yourself past your limits, and go home! 💪🏽🤟🏽

Progress takes time! There is no magic pill that gives you healthy results overnight! It takes hard work, consistency, and TIME! The key is making a routine and making it part of your life, not just a hobby. You health is more than a part time effort you do an hour everyday!
