We all love a good snack, but the ones we want are often low in nutritional value and high in calories. Here are some great snacky options for you to have on the go, or when you just can't wait until your next meal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Boiled eggs. High in protein and only 78 calories an egg! Boil them up on Sunday night and pop them in a container ready to grab in the morning. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Air Popped Popcorn! (without the butter...) If you need to have that crunch, plain air popped popcorn only has 30 calories per cup! That's amazing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -Almonds. I don’t eat fish any more myself but I while I wean my teens ( wow- that’s my new favourite term!) on to 100% plant based food, I am carefully source their fish so that I can be confident there are no nasties. This has always been their favourite! Atlantic salmon with ginger, garlic, and chilli in a fresh lime and tamari sauce with handfuls of fresh coriander. Served on top of a fluffy pile of wholemeal cous cous with heaps of fresh broccoli and carrots. I was hoping there may be enough left over for lunches today ... but came back to find it all eaten! Wr wr wr wr wraps!! Such a great, easy, healthy, fun family dinner. So many different fillings to choose from and something for everyone. 🌯 We tried out some Oumph kebab spiced strips (soya based) but we often have roasted veg & chickpeas, tofu, tempeh, big field mushrooms or strips of veggie burger/sausage. 🌯 I don’t mind using a little bit of something processed like these Oumph strips as long as it’s not too often and it’s balanced out nicely with fresh stuff. 🌯 We love a big selection of fillings so we had little gem lettuce, grated carrot, raw onion, avocado, houmus, grated smokey vegan cheese, tahini, garlic mushrooms, guindillas (hot peppers) all stuffed in with the strips!! We like to use big fresh Lebanese style wraps as they are fresh, only have about 3 ingredients and are yummo. On the side we had pickles and I made cumin and paprika spiced potatoes too. Many people ask us about building muscle and what to eat - whether they should be eating loads of protein straight after exercising, using protein powders*, or whether they shouldn’t eat at all? 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏼‍♂️ To build muscle mass efficiently or enhance your adaptations to gym work, it’s helpful to: 1. Do the strength work regularly (body weight, gym, boot camps) 2. Eat enough food throughout the day to exceed your daily energy needs 3. Eat a protein rich meal within 1.5-2 hrs of training - or a protein rich snack followed by a complete meal 1-2 hrs after that 4. Include protein rich meals and snacks* every 3-4 hours (as your body is continually recovering 24-48hrs after) 5. Choose high quality protein sources (as this will have the essential building blocks (amino acids) required to build lean muscle mass) - such as lean meats, fish, tofu, milk, eggs 🍳🧀🐟🥩🌯🥛🥜 *Protein rich meals and snacks: nuts/nut bars, cheese on crackers, lean meats with veg and rice/noodles/pasta/bread etc, milky drinks, yoghurt, beans and lentils. Protein powders aren’t essential if you can eat enough protein rich foods. Goodmorning!💛🧡 Rise & shine met deze mango turmeric chia-havermoutpap. Een héle mond vol, haha. Maar weet niet hoe ik het anders moet noemen. Het is in ieder geval niet moeilijk om te maken hoor😊 Ik blender een flinke hand mango (mag eventueel diepvries) met 200 ml kokosmelk. Maak dit vervolgens warm in een pannetje met 1 el chiazaadjes en 4 el havermout. Voeg 1 tl kurkuma, vanille extract en een snufje zwarte peper toe. Alles goed roeren en breng het zachtjes aan de kook, voor ongeveer 2 minuten. Doe de pap in een schaaltje en top af met wat je lekker vindt, zoals bijvoorbeeld een klein handje nootjes en nog wat stukjes fruit. Intuitive exercise... . There’s a big misconception that embracing intuitive eating means that you can’t have fitness goals and that’s simply not the case. One of the principles outlined in the book Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, intuitive eating specifically pertains to exercise. 🤓 . Despite being a personal trainer, I don’t believe that everyone has to follow a structured training programme. You certainly can if you enjoy routine and have a specific goal, such as getting stronger, running faster or becoming more flexible. Even within a structured training programme, it is possible to incorporate intuition. This is known as ‘autoregulation’ where you alter the day’s training depending on how you are feeling. There are a huge number of variables that can affect your ability to exercise, such as nutrition, sleep, mood, menstrual cycle and stress. You can take these into account and make informed choices about how you want to train, or if you want to at all. 🧐 . If you don’t want to follow a structured training programme, that’s totally fine too. Maybe you like lots of variety, maybe you like to be spontaneous or perhaps your current lifestyle is really unpredictable. I’ve talked about it before but I’m a big fan of the app @movegb, which is available in a number of cities in the UK and allows you to try all different types of activities at an affordable price. I’ve done a lot of different dance and yoga classes recently because although I love the gym, I also like having alternatives. 😎 . Whatever your approach to exercise, focus on what is fun. There are so many different ways to move your body, you can find something that works for you. When you are driven by what is enjoyable, it is so much more sustainable. When it’s not about numbers, you can focus on how it feels, mentally and physically. When it’s not about trying to change your body, you can skip a workout without guilt, anxiety or judgement. 😌 . Exercise doesn’t have to be an obligation or a punishment. It can be something that enhances your life, gives you energy, boosts your mood and allows you to meet new people. You deserve that. 😊 . Today I was talking to a client and we were discussing how people are so quick to tell you to stop loosing weight saying things like ‘now you better not loose anymore weight’ ‘don’t get too small’ ‘you better slow down’ but why is it they are so quick to say things like that but they are not so quick to tell you not to put anymore weight on... Are you with me? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think that having a good balance and following a 90/10 approach helps with sustainability and long term goals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It ALSO keeps us sane. Restriction likely will result in disordered eating... so if you’ve eaten your veggies, complex carbs, and good sources of protein go have that serving of chocolate or cookie that you are craving! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As long as you are not over indulging & enjoying in moderation, there is nothing wrong with a treat here and there! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All foods should fit into your life. I often hear, “but what will my family/friends/significant other think if I start focusing on myself?” Legitimately - I’ve listened HORROR stories of relationships that have ended because one person was unsupportive of the other’s new habits, though usually focused on weight loss. Friendly reminder - this is not a post about losing weight to be healthier. Wellness is about engaging in habits to feel better, not to lose weight. This is actually a very valid fear - we’re still pack animals, despite all the technology that allows us to never leave our residences. And, even with ever-changing technology, we don’t really like change (it’s uncomfortable). So, when someone is not supportive, it’s important to ask WHY. Here are some common answers/responses: You won’t have time for me anymore. We can always make time for things that are important to us. You’ll turn into one of those weird “fitness people”. I enjoy engaging in behaviors that make me feel good, but it won’t control me (because if it becomes an obsession, it’s no longer healthy) We won’t have any fun anymore. You can still have fun and engage in wellness behaviors - you can eat out, take a vacation, etc. Again, it shouldn’t control you. You won’t like me anymore. Love doesn’t come with conditions - that includes a size/weight requirement. Point - you don’t have to become a kool-aid drinking gym rat to seek wellness. You can just be YOU. I did this thing in recovery where I pretended I was further along than I was. I hated disappointing others or making them feel uncomfortable.⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ So, I said I was doing "fine". HAPPY STRAWBERRY CRUNCH SOJA-KOKOS DESSERT!🍓🥥 Wie geht es dir beim Anblick dieses erfrischenden Desserts?🍓🥥 Meistens ist doch ein Dessert kalorientechnisch zu mächtig, weil es noch zusätzliche Fette und Zucker enthält.🍧Beim STRAWBERRY CRUNCH SOJA-KOKOS DESSERT🍓🥥ist es nicht so viel. Die Bilanz ist positiv: Es startet mit 2 -3 EL Hafernusscrunch auf dem Boden des Glases, etwa 2 EL Kokosraspeln 🥥darauf, damit der Joghurt nicht gleich nach unten läuft. Darauf 150 - 200 ml Soja-Kokos-🥥Joghurt mit 4 - 6 kleingeschnittenen Erdbeeren🍓und 2 TL Agavendicksaft vermischen. Als Topping 1 halbierte Erdbeere und Minze.🍓Am besten das fertige Dessert für 2 Std. kühl stellen. Dann aus der Kühlung holen, einen langen Dessertlöffel nehmen und ihn ganz unten auf den Boden eintauchen und langsam noch oben führen. Pokračujeme 🤗 Ke cviku z minulého týdne můžete do kombinace přidat dnešní cvik: ✔️Držení těla: základ znáte z předchozích cviků lavice, můžete být na napnuté paži nebo na předloktí, ✔️ Bederka - pupík stále zapojujeme proti páteři ✔️ Pánev - zpevníme nohy a tím zapojíme pánevní dno ✔️ Ramena od uší, lopatky od sebe, hlava v prodloužení páteře, odtlačujeme se od ruky směrem ke stropu 👉 Pohyb: - s výdechem pokrčíme nohu a koleno jde pod břichem do strany - s nádechem vrátíme nohu do původní pozice 🏷️ Boky se vytáčejí, lopatky držíme od sebe a ramena držíme stále nad zápěstím... 👉 Po celou dobu pohybu držte páteř, jakoby jste spolkli pravítko... M'n ontbijt deze ochtend... Ik kon het geluk niet op...zoooo lekker! Wou deze ochtend met m'n ontbijt wat uitproberen en dit was veel lekkerder dan ik had verwacht: ✓ 1 ei ✓ 40g havermout ✓ 1 banaan ✓ 60g blauwe bessen ✓ 150g halfvolle platte kaas Mengen. 2 à 3 El op het wafelijzer en afbakken. Più la PROVA COSTUME si avvicina e più cresce il numero delle ripetizioni fatte di addominali, ogni giorno in palestra si vedono i più vari esercizi. Tutti lì a "schiacciare" la pancetta sperando che questa si assottigli...Tra gli esercizi più utilizzati in quest ottica troviamo il "SIDE-BANDING" il nome ai più dice poco, ma tutti lo utilizzano per sconfiggere le "maniglie dell'amore" Ma È UTILE? Ve lo siete mai chiesto? L'esercizio è una semplice inclinazione laterale del busto manubri, cavi o hyperextension solitamente sono utilizzati per aumentarne l'efficacia in modo da "scolpire" gli obliqui. Peccato però che questi muscoli lavorano solo in piccolissima parte per questo tipo di movimento, il grosso del lavoro è svolto dal QUADRATO DEI LOMBI muscolo solitamente sconosciuto che si trova nella parte posteriore del tronco ed ha poco a che fare con l'ambita " tartaruga". Quindi giusto allenarsi per ottenere i risultati, ma farlo in maniera corretta ci porterà ad ottenere questi in maniera più efficace! Pensare che si possa con un esercizio (qualsiasi esso sia) andare a colpire il grasso che si trova sotto quella zona è una credenza del tutto errata. If anyone ever tells me that teenagers just won’t eat healthy stuff I have so many examples to illustrate that this is just not true. And not just my teens!! Polly is a foodie... she will only eat home cooked food. She takes it to school every day and would eat my leftovers as opposed to a pizza or dinner out any day of the week. I have a fridge full of home made snacks ready for when she comes home from school ( for her and her brothers) but I also have a ‘healthy snack cupboard’ full of things like edamame, dried mango, apple crisps, dried banana, nuts, seeds and these dried seaweed nori crisps. Here I was trying to persuade her not to eat the whole packet before she went off to dance.... but I’ve shot my self in the foot here as the answer always comes back ‘but they’re good for me mum, there’s nothing bad in them and you can eat much more of the healthy stuff’. She is of course right. You can eat much more of the right stuff. Teens DO like healthy foods. It’s just a matter of slowly training those taste buds and weaning them off the sugar addiction. Today Polly has 2 big exams. She gets very anxious which is why I load her morning smoothie with broccoli, spinach, chia ( for long lasting energy) and coconut water ( to keep her hydrated). Not to mention linseed for good fats and to aid digestion. Then a pile of berries and fruit. These are foods to feed the gut- our second brain. They will keep her steady, alkalise her body to help with the stress and help support good mental health. This would keep her going all day... but she also has a mini food flask packed full of jackfruit bolognese and a snack of crispy chick peas. Sometimes we feel helpless when our teens go off for exams but I know I’ve done the absolute best I can to feed both her body and brain and keep her nerves at bay. She may or may not pass her tests but for me that’s not the priority. She will do her best and her body will be the absolute best place for her to live when she is older.
