A little food fact for your Sunday 😁 . “Turnips are a nutritious vegetable. Turnips belong to the same vegetable family as Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and kale, which contain plant chemicals that may help make your immune system stronger and lower your risk for cancer. They provide dietary fiber and a number of vitamins and minerals, including calcium, potassium and vitamin B-6.” . I’ve made fries with them before and while they are not exactly like potatoes, they definitely fill the craving while giving me a veggie instead of a carb! I’m always looking for a fun way to incorporate veggies 👏🏼👏🏼 . This morning I experimented with making them into hash browns, pretty good for a first try - they were a little more difficult to cook because they don’t stick together like potatoes, but they were so yummy! . Have you ever tried turnip?? . . . . . #foodfacts #turnip #turnips #hashbrowns #veggiesmost #lowcarbideas #breakfastideas #cleaneatinglifestyle #fitmomsofig #momofthree

One of the sweetest dishes South Asian cuisine has to offer is undoubtedly the Gulab Jamun! Made from the perfect concoction of floury, milky, sugary, syrupy and nutty ingredients, the Gulab Jaun packs a powerful punch that rounds off any meal perfectly. These rose scented syrupy spheres of joy are particularly popular in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and now, it would be difficult to find an South Asian restaurant in the UK which doesn’t have this desert on their menu “Gulab” is derived from the Persian word gol (flower) and ab (water) whilst “Jamun” is the Hindi/Urdu word for Syzygium cumini, a fruit also known as the Java plum which is a similar size and shape to the Gulab Jamun. Believe it or not, the first Gulab Jamuns were prepared in medieval India and is the descendant of a fritter. According to the culinary historian Michael Krondl, the dish may have derived from a Persian dish which was improperly prepared by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan’s personal chef. #jamun #gulabjamun #sweetsofindia #mithai #foodfacts #foodlove #foodlust #foodforlife #food_fashion_tech

For my new #flavnutrition post, I chose to talk about kombucha 😌 the brand is randomly chosen as it was the first one I’ve tried 😌 Kombucha is a type of yeast and is made by fermenting kombucha and bacteria with black tea, sugar and other ingredients. 🍹 People use kombucha tea as medicine but there is no scientific evidence that it is an affective treatment for any condition 🍹 However, kombucha is used for memory loss, PMS, joint pain, aging, loss of appetite, high blood pressure, constipation. 🍹 It’s rich in tea polyphenols and acetic acid which have both been shown to kill harmful bacteria. Also, just like yogurt, kefir and kimchi, it’s a probiotic which means it’s loaded with beneficial bacteria. 🍹 it has been shown to improve LDL and HDL cholesterol. It may also protect against heart disease 🍹 don’t forget it also contains some alcohol (usually less than 5%). Also, you can make it at home, but you have to be very careful 🌈 I can’t say I drink it on a daily basis, I can go a month without drinking it, but sometimes when I get passed it, I try different flavours. It’s your choice what to eat and drink, but don’t eat fast food and then drink some kombucha to reset your body. It won’t work 😕 try and have a healthy lifestyle 😋 it’s the best you can do for your body! #nutritionist #nutritiontips #nutritional #nutritioncoach #wellness #behealthy #stayhealthy #eatwell #foodie #foodblogger #blogger #lifestyleblogger #kombucha #benefits #tips #tipsandtricks #foodfacts #foodaholic #veganfoodshare #foodpassion #foodphotography #foodismedicine #foodisfuel #tuesdaytips #micdejun #sanatate #sweat12wc #motivation at Bucharest, Romania

Strawberries and shihtzus What to know & nutrients: These are a safe, healthy snack for puppies and dogs, when given in moderation. Strawberries have a good amount of vitamin C and also contain some manganese which is important for healthy bone structure. Serving size: When giving strawberries to your Shih Tzu, a good serving size for a puppy is 1 or 2 small pieces and adults can eat 4 or 5, either given one at a time as a treat or reward or cut and mixed into a meal. Edamame is a healthy and delicious food that can be enjoyed in various ways. Here are some of the benefits. 1. High in protein - Crucial for cell production, protein is a requirement for every balanced diet. However, a large number of people are not able to implement it due to their vegetarian lifestyle.  A cup of it contains around 17g of protein, which is adequate as long as other sources are included as well. 2. Rich in vitamins and minerals - It is a rich source of calcium, magnesium, sodium etc which are essential nutrients for our body. 3. Healthy Snack Treat - You can just roast it with some pure ghee and salt and have a healthy snack treat. 4. Lowers Cholesterol - Eating edamame for the body’s protein requirements can prevent the deposit of extra fat and unhealthy cholesterol. This is because of the presence of an omega-3 fatty acid in edamame, which is linked to lowering levels of cholesterol in the blood. 5. Reduces bone loss - It contains the essential mineral calcium, which is crucial for strong bones. An intake of these beans will help in maintaining bone health and density. How to eat? It can be added to your salads or eat it like a snack. Cooking it is simple and not time consuming. Boil the beans for 3-5 minutes or pan fry and your special ingredients. #Nutrivityindia #healthbenefits #edameme

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR - good or bad? 1. Blood sugar - Apple cider vinegar before a carbohydrate heavy meal has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels after a meal, however it doesn’t prevent glucose absorption it simple delays it. Patients with diabetes or pre-diabetes may benefit the most from this effect. 2. Weight loss - Maybe through process of increasing satiety via delayed gastric emptying or appetite suppressant through nausea. Only one study has demonstrated weight loss through the consumption of apple cider vinegar (Kondo et al). No other studies have replicated these results. 3. Cardiovascular disease - Most studies have been conducted in animal studies and not humans. Rodents who consumed apple cider vinegar had an improvement in blood lipids and blood pressure. Only one study (same as above) has demonstrated this effect in humans. 4. Skin - There is no evidence that apple cider vinegar helps acne, wrinkles, bruising, moles. So there’s is some evidence that it MAY be beneficial but it’s not very convincing. However there is no evidence that it does harm. Best way to improve all of the above is with a calorie controlled nutrient dense diet ☺️

Cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable. Cruciferous is derived from Latin ‘cross-bearing’ and in the literal sense it’s in reference to the symmetrical arrangement of four petals. . . Like the human body, plants are also very clever. They have phytonutrients like all vegetables. Plants produce these for their own protection against insects or bacteria! They are the pigments used for photosynthesis or energy production. This is why they produce these bright vibrant colours! These compounds are very useful for us humans as they help promote health and reduce risk of disease. #winteriscoming #wintervegetables #cabbage #phytonutrients . . . . . #healthyfood #vegetables #vegetarian #plantbased #plantbaseddiet #foodisfun #foodfacts #sauerkraut #cabbagerolls #coleslaw #cabbagepancakes #okonominyaki #kimchi #intuitiveeating #homecooking #melbourne #wintereats #mindfuleating #nutritionist #nutritioneducation #schoolincursions #parenteducation #healtheducation #varietyisthespiceoflife at Oak Park, Victoria

I miss bowls like these for lunch so much! I haven’t made one of these in awhile... comment below if you to see more bowls in these! . Did you know? A "healthy" burrito bowl at #Chipotle typically adds up to over 1000 calories?! Not to mention the amount of sodium in one meal is close to your daily recommended consumption 😱😱. So choose wisely if you eat out this weekend. . What's in this salad? At the bottom: - 1 spiralized zucchini, raw - a handful of baby spinach . On top: - 1/2 bell pepper - 1/4 cup carrots, julienned . - Pico de Gallo (1/2 tomato diced, cilantro, 1/8 onion, 1/4 lime juiced, cayenne, black pepper & salt) . - Homemade Guacamole (1/2 tomato diced, 1/2 avocado, cilantro, 1/4 lime juiced, cayenne, black pepper & salt) . - Cajun shrimp (15 small shrimps, seasoned with dash of cumin, paprika, cayenne, salt, pepper, garlic powder, dried Basil). Then pan seared with coconut oil. . No dressing required! Seriously. . . . Tonight’s dinner: Pisto Manchego recipe courtesy of @foodandwine. See how it is made on my Instagram story. Pisto manchego is a vegetable stew, typically consisting of zucchini, tomato, onion, and green peppers. The “manchego” part of its name indicates that it comes from La Mancha, a region in central Spain, but there are variations throughout the country. Pisto is believed to have evolved from the dish alboronía, which was introduced to Spain during the Muslim rule of the Iberian peninsula during the years 711-1492. It was served at the wedding of the caliph al Ma’mūn and his wife Būrān, and was originally dubbed “al-būrāniyya” in honor of the bride. The first iteration of alboronía in Spain contained eggplant, but that particular ingredient left the party and tomatoes were thrown into the mix when they were brought to Spain from the Americas. The dish eventually took on the name “pisto” from the Latin “pistus” which means pounded or beaten. I love this time of year because it is WATERMELON season! 🍉🍉🍉 Watermelon is a great thirst quenching option during the hotter months because it's about 92% water, and packed with nutrients to replenish your body. About 1 cup of diced watermelon is considered a serving size, which includes half a gram of fiber and just shy of 10 grams of sugar. While this sweet treat is also loaded with vitamins and is high in A and C, it's calories come mostly from the fructose, and sit at 47 calories per serving. So indulge with 1 cup at a time, and enjoy the refreshing and delicious taste of this seasonal melon all summer long! 🌞😎🍉

VEGANISM ... So first, I'm not totally vegan ANYMORE. I eat about 90% vegan food, but not all. And why? Because I wasn't vegan for a right reason. I thought I was super healthy and lean on that way. In reality I was faaaar away from It. That I stopped eating meat was just because of the taste, and so It is nowadays too - i don't just like It, so i don't eat It. It don't make me feel good. The main reason to cut dairy off was stomach issues, but they were really caused by me ... Nowadays I'm able to eat some products, like whey and some of the quarks. I brought them Back to my life, because I noticed that I like stuff like propuds and they didn't causes any harm, so why not🙂 Aaand I thought eggs are bad for me, because of the fat... Now I eat them as a part of my fat&protein intake, and I like boiled eggs on my toast and they are so great on pancakes:D. I know I would do these without eggs too, but If I like them and I feel good with them? ... So I think it's great to be vegan and the vegan food is awesome! I use a lot of vegan products and feel good with them, but also some of the non-vegan stuff. If you're vegan for the RIGHT REASONS, It can be a great choice and the way to live. But I can tell you that you can eat "healthy" (what the hell that even means? 💢) without being vegan and by eating meat. I think it's totally okay. 😃 And anyone shouldn't be shamed for the food you enjoy. .... And some secret for you.. My stomach is feeling a lot of better when I started to eat some dairy again..😅 The right bacteria came back, and I'm not bloated that often anymore. And no pain. So eat what TASTES good, what FEELS good and don't overthink. ... I'm SO GLAD i have found the way to eat which feels good and I'm not suffering Every day or even every week anymore. I know what I can't eat and I know what I can. So I can say I'm proud , glutenfree-vegetarian and it's good on that way.😊

My favourite breakfast: Avocado Toast... even better if you switch the toast for a Montreal Bagel from @stviateurbagel. #yum #avocadotoast #montrealbagels #breakfast. 🥑Avocado History The avocado (Persea americana) originated in south-central Mexico, sometime between 7,000 and 5,000 B.C. But it was several millennia before this wild variety was cultivated. Archaeologists in Peru have found domesticated avocado seeds buried with Incan mummies dating back to 750 B.C. and there is evidence that avocados were cultivated in Mexico as early as 500 B.C. From Aguacate to Avocado Spanish conquistadores loved the fruit but couldn't pronounce it and changed the Aztec word to a more manageable aguacate, which eventually became avocado in English. The first English-language mention of avocado was by Sir Henry Sloane in 1696. California's Cash Crop Fast forward to 1871, when Judge R.B. Ord of Santa Barbara successfully introduced avocados to the U.S. with trees from Mexico. By the early 1900s, growers were seeing the avocado's commercial potential. By the 1950s around 25 different varieties of avocados were being commercially packed and shipped in California, with 'Fuerte' accounting for more than two-thirds of the production. Even though 'Hass' was discovered in the late 1920s and patented by Rudolph Hass in 1935, it was not until large-scale industry expansion occurred in the late 1970s that 'Hass' replaced 'Fuerte' as the leading California variety. Today, California is the leading producer of domestic avocados and home to about 90 percent of the United States’ crop. Most California Avocados are harvested on approximately 52,000 acres from San Luis Obispo through San Diego by nearly 5,000 growers. San Diego County, which produces 60 percent of all California Avocados, is the acknowledged USA avocado capital. California Avocados are grown year-round. A single California Avocado tree can produce up to 200 pounds of fresh fruit each year, approximately 500 pieces, although most average around 60 pounds or 150 pieces of fruit. Info found on https://www.californiaavocado.com

Origi From Hindi bhel ‘mixture’ + puri ‘deep-fried bread’. Bhel puri is a light refreshing Indian snack food that comes together in minutes. Bhel puri a puffed rice snack that can be eaten by the spoonful or scooped onto a flatbread or chip. Some places serve it in a paper cone and it's eaten directly from there. In general, bhel puri is made with puffed rice and sev (a vermicelli-like snack made from gram flour), both of which are available at Indian markets. These dry ingredients are then mixed with onions, potatoes, chat masala, and chutney. It is spicy, but also sweet, tart, and salty and can be adapted to enhance any of those characteristics. The versatility in taste is the beauty of bhel puri. Bhel Puri Goes by Many Names Some say that this snack originated in Mumbai, which, according to research, is a common belief. The dry version of bhel puri is known as bhadang, which is spiced with lemon juice, coriander, and onions. The Kolkata version is called jhaal muri. Another kind is known in Bangalore as churumuri or churmuri. #bhelpuri #indianchats😍 #kolkatachat #foodfacts #foodlust #foodporn #foodforlife #food_lust #foodporn #food_fashion_tech

Do you ever find yourself stuck in a rut, eating the same thing?⠀ Here’s some motivation to mix things up more- ⠀ 1. Food rotation can improve gut health by increasing the diversity of good bacteria in your gut ⠀ 2. Reduce the chance of new food sensitivities from over-exposure ⠀ 3. Facilitates exposure to the full spectrum of micro-minerals, nutrients and enzymes ⠀ ⠀ I had found myself only using olive oil in salads, a simple way of diversifying good fats is investing in a variety of oils (and they’ll make your salads more tasty too😍)⠀ #wellness#plants #vegan #plantbased #health #healthyliving #healthyfood #plantbaseddiet #nutrition #functionalnutrition #nutritionfacts #foodfacts #instafoodie #healthybucks #healthbucks #healthy#guthealth #foodrotation #goodmoodfood #antiinflammatory

Ibn Battuta, the famous Moroccan traveller has mentioned that Kebab was an integral part of the daily diet of Indian royalty as early as 1200 AD. No wonder the Afghan plunderers and invaders brought it to the Indian kitchens long before the Mughals ventured in. If the pre-Mughal Kebab was more about marinade and meat-being more of rustic chewy chunks, char-grilled in open ovens , with Mughals it evolved into a delicacy, that was soft and succulent, made richer with aromatic spices and dry fruits. Celebrated food critic and Chef Marut Sikka says, "India being traditionally a vegetarian country, was not the birthplace of kebabs. Only the territories that depended on wild game, like Rajputana have a meat eating history. No wonder the first evidence of meat, which has a remote similarity with kebab is Soola (Maans Ka Soola) which was made with game meat, mostly wild boar or deer." "If you look at the political boundaries and collaborate it with history, the trail followed by Changez Khan's army transecting Mongolia, Middle-East and up to Spain and around, saw the evolution of kebabs in various forms. Though we have Yakitori in Japan and Satay in Indonesia and Malasia, but in sauces and spices they cannot be compared with kebabs" adds Sikka. But kebab in the Indian context is not just about meats. In fact some delectable Indian variations like Hariali Kebab, Paneer Tikka and Dahi Ke Kebab owe their origin to India. #kebab #foodreview #foodfacts #foodforlife #foodlust #food_fashion_tech #food_lust #sheekkebab #chickenkekabs

The most popular story of the discovery of coffee centers around a young goat herder named Kaldi in the Ethiopian province of Kaffa around the late 6th century. Legend has it that he noticed a strange restlessness in his flock after they had eaten the berries and leaves of an unknown plant. Monks from a nearby monastery heard of this phenomenon, and after various trials discovered that by roasting, grinding and infusing in water the seeds of this plant, a unique beverage could be obtained. This beverage helped to keep them awake during long hours of prayer. Word of this special drink quickly spread and it was soon drunk in coffee houses in the far away holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Propagation of the coffee bean began in Yemen and was well established by the 15th century. To protect this valuable export, Arabian leaders banned the export of fertile beans. Eventually, a pilgrim named Baba Budan smuggled some viable seed berries out of the country, then returned to his home in India sometime during the 17th Century. The first coffee plant to be taken to Europe was stolen by Dutch traders in 1616 via the port of Mocha in Yemen. The Dutch then set up plantations throughout their colonies of Ceylon, Java, Timor, Sumatra, Celebes and Bali. In time coffee was also produced in the West Indies, Latin America, Jamaica, India and Brazil, which today produces over 60% of the world’s coffee production. The first coffeehouses began in Mecca and soon spread throughout the Arab world. The idea of coffeehouses, where anyone could go to discuss culture and conduct business for the price of a coffee, flourished in Venice, Paris, London and North America in the 1600’s. This culture is still alive and well today with billions of cups of coffee being enjoyed worldwide every day. #coffee #coffeelove #foodfacts #foodreview #foodlust #foodforlife #foodlust #food_fashion_tech
