i don’t have many days at home this summer, but i’ve definitely found my morning routine for the days that i am. summer is my time for binge reading, so i’ve made it my resolution to read for at least 15 min before going to bed & 15 min right when i wake up. i’m making sure i do this instead of scrolling mindlessly through social media & it’s been so nice. since my natural body clock wakes me up before 7am every morning, those 15 minutes usually turn into about an hour before my mom & i wake schatzi up for a walk and have breakfast out on the deck. been soaking up the sun & trying to do things outside for as much of the day as i can. ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ the dEATs: [base] banana, pineapple, jackfruit, zucchini, spinach, oats, lemon juice & @drinkorgain vanilla protein [toppings] strawbs, coconut flakes, hemp seeds & @micheles_granola at Midlothian, Virginia

Do you drink kombucha? ⠀ ⠀ You may have seen this word popping up more regularly lately, or seen it in your grocery store and wondered, what the heck is this pricey little glass-bottled drink, and how do you even say it?⠀ ⠀ Kombucha (pronounced kômˈbo͞oCHə) is a fizzy, fermented tea rich in probiotics and could be a great tool to improve your gut health. It helps decrease inflammation, contains B vitamins, and can even fight against bacterial growth.⠀ ⠀ It has a very distinct taste, so chances are either that you will love it or want to spit it out. I do like the way it tastes, but the price keeps me from drinking it more regularly. The average bottle at the store contains 2 servings, so be aware of that if you try it. You can also ferment your own at home, but I won't be attempting that any time soon. ⠀ ⠀ If you want to see the maximum benefit, drink it on an empty stomach, (FWTFL ladies, you could drink it to break your fast and then eat ~30 minutes later). It has a tiny bit of alcohol and caffeine, so it's better to drink it earlier in the day so it doesn't disrupt your sleep, and you should avoid if you're pregnant!⠀ ⠀ Have you tried Kombucha? It makes it so easy to work it in to every meal, plus...it doesn’t feel like work bc it’s just so good, you know? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Need some summer tips for jumping into the produce game headfirst this season? Don’t you worry friend, I got you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Don’t juice it. Eat it. Pal, you need that fiber! It 👏🏻 Is 👏🏻 Your 👏🏻 Friend! Fruit juices are often full of high sugar fruits and less greens. While I say eat those fruits if you want, EAT them bc that fiber will help your blood sugar from spiking and reacting in your body like you just had a half a box of Krispy Kreme’s. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Take advantage of grilling season! Got some meat out on that grill? Throw some veggies on there! Some of my faves for this are: asparagus, bell peppers, onions and zucchini. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Berries! I like a mix of these at breakfast but let me tell ya-strawberries and whip make an amazing light dessert! (Extra points if you eat them in bed as I was in this pic 🤗) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Salads! Simple, satisfying, and using up the last of those fridge finds before we grocery shop. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ This weekend we’re adulting hard and investing in a new washer/dryer and starting to transition our office into a 2nd bedroom for our littlest baby 😭 (seriously, time slow down!!!) After the big kid responsibilities are done we’re looking forward to some much needed r&r! How about you? What are your weekend plans? Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend! ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ __ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Ranch fries: •Yukon gold potatoes, sliced into thick wedges •olive oil •ranch seasoning: pinches of salt and pepper + equal parts garlic powder and onion powder + lots of dried dill (hard to overdo) ⠀⠀ __ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Directions: Slice potatoes. Place into a bowl and cover with water for 2 mins (helps remove starch and crisp up when baking). Drain and pat dry. Toss with olive oil and seasonings. FUEL YOUR BODY! My nutrition is pretty boring. The staple are lean meats and loads of vegetables. But from time to time I just want to experiment, add something new, try different cuisine or mix it up a little. After demanding workout this morning, I made portobello stuffed with poached egg and smoked salmon, with a dash of parmigiano reggiano on top. I would add some greens on side, salad or fried vegetables. For those of you counting macros, this one had 210kcal with 18g protein, 7g carbs and 12g fat. BEST SALAD I'VE EVER HAD.😍🌱 I went to the climate strike today and after it my friends and I wanted to eat something and luckily I found a salad bar! You can make your own salad and I choosed: lettuce+spinach(as the base), grated carrots🥕, lentil-quinoa-mix, cucumber🥒, lemon cauliflower rice with beans, corn🌽,marinated beetroots, avocado🥑(a lot!!) and also falafel balls😍🤤 was so so good!! Btw this bowl was HUGE🥣 even though it doesn't look like it.

❕❗FRIDAY FOOD TIP❗❕ . EASY FOOD PREP: . . I'm sure y'all know by now, I am ALL about efficiency. We are all busy. We all have a million and 8 other things to be doing. . Yes, staying on track requires effort and preparation but it does NOT have to be time consuming! . . Personally, I don't do a full meal prep. But I do like to prep up a few things to have on hand for those moments I don't have time and just need to grab something. . . Sheet pan recipes are a FANTASTIC quick and easy way to prep. It also helps give you variety. Instead of eating broccoli or sweet potato daily, you'll feel less like you're eating the same thing when it has more variation within it. . . Usually I'll just chop and toss whatever veggies I have on hand on to a pan, toss in some avo oil. Maybe a little pepper, onion/garlic powder, tumeric. Oven at 425° for 25 minutes and voila! Switch it up each week, and you won't get bored. Great to toss on top of greens, quinoa, rice, add steak or chicken. Add some avo? Maybe an egg?. BOOM 💥 a whole meal. . . I've been studying nutrition to various degrees for going on 10 years now. I can safely say that healthy eating and how food interacts with the body is my passion in life. - Over all the years I've seen diets come on go but there are a few key principals that remain as a foundation for everything. The truth is that it really doesn't have to be complicating. If we can keep it simple and follow three main eting principals most of us will see extraordinary success. - 1. Consume the majority of your diet from real, whole foods. These are the foods around the perimeter of the grocery store. Whole foods have no ingredients. They ARE the ingredient. - 2. Don't eat more food than you need. Food should be seen as fuel. We should eat just enough for our body to do what it needs to do and nothing more. A good rule of thumb is to aim for 3-4 meals per day depending on your size. Eat enough to keep you satisfied until the next meal. No snacking necessary. - 3. Vegetables should make up the foundation of any healthy diet. Ask any nutritionist and I guarantee they will agree with this point. Vegetables contain so many beneficial nutrients without adding too many calories to our daily consumption. They help fill us up and provide us with disease-fighting properties that keep us healthy. - Nutrition does not have to be complicating. Follow those three foundational prinicipals and you will be well on your way to a healthier life. But remember, consistency is key. You will need to create a lifestyle that allows you to follow those guidelines every day. But beyond that, I feel FOCUSED AF. . . The last 3 days were not only about cutting weight, fixing my gut, detoxing, and cleansing. They were also about shifting my mindset back on food, preparing it to go on a 30 day healthy road of putting food first instead of my workouts. I highly recommend you prefocusing/prepping your mind before a nutrition journey. Don’t get me wrong, I am still going to workout!
