Day 15: lights were off. Candle was lit. Meditation music was playing. Slow #diaphragmaticbreathing for 10 minutes. Almost fell asleep it felt so good. Followed by #functionalprogression position 1. I even attempted a transition from 1 to 2 today. Position 1 still needs to get stronger - and range of motion needs to increase. Day 14: knee raises and modified mountain climbers. Threw in some light squats too. Lots of #diastasisrecti breathing. Some #functionalprogression movements but I think I rushed it because I felt some coning. •••••• Here’s the real issue on my mind tho: I didn’t workout yesterday. At all. It was one of those days and I was in a real downer mood I couldn’t get out of. I felt super upset at myself about it, but then I remembered the importance of grace. It’s important to know we are all human, we all slip up, but God is forgiving and full of grace, even when we are not. I forgave myself, did a few more squats today than I should have to make up for it, and I moved on. #resolutions #2019 #goals #gethealthy #healthymom #eatsmart #workout #wod #graceandforgiveness

If Chiropractic school taught me nothing else (besides Chiropractic things...) it taught me that there will he choices in life that will be made by no other reason than, “I just knew I was supposed to be there.” ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ I have no kids. I have no nieces or nephews. I don’t even have younger siblings. Babies are mystical creatures to me, and pregnancy itself? Lol. ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ What I do have in my life are mothers. Over 95% of my practice is comprised of women, and the giants who have allowed me to stand on their shoulders are women, most of them mothers. Starting from Functional Progression 3 (see post from November 16), we are going to go into part 4! You have two options: holding the position or forward movement for an added challenge. The goal is posterior chain activation with diaphragm and pelvic floor synchronization. 1. Find bear position: pick knees up to hover a few inches off the ground. The pelvis should be higher than shoulders and maintain active bend in elbows and knees with a neutral spine. 2. Movement option 1 - find and maintain breath and intra-abdominal pressure while holding the bear position. Then return to the start or table top position. 3. Movement Option 2 - maintaining complete stability, engaging pelvic floor, abdominals, neutral spine, shoulders down and back, reaching through the crown of the head - begin to move forward with opposite hand and foot. Try to eliminate any swaying side to side as you take 4-5 steps forward and then back. Return to starting position by letting your knees touch down. 4. MOVEMENT + MINDSET = my MONDAY 👌🏼⁣ ⁣ I love having routines or practices that make up my movement day to day. And I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not perfect when it comes to consistency. Last week was one of those weeks! I was busy, things got in the way, I didn’t have time, I had more important things to do...I’m pretty sure I used every excuse in the book to not go to⁣ yoga, run, hike, walk, flow, move. And thats okay. Well, maybe not the excuses, but the time and space to listen to my body 👌🏼⁣ ⁣ But then I also noticed last week was filled with little instances of frustration. I found myself to be easily agitated, more stressed out than usual, and not always thinking or acting rationally. And although it wasn’t the best week ever, it was the perfect way to bring my awareness to the correlation between movement and mindset, and how for me..the two go hand in hand.⁣ ⁣ Soooo needless to say...I’m prioritizing myself and my movement this Monday and the week to come. It doesn’t seem like that big of a deal until you realize that dural tension can impact the entire body. Mobilization of an injection site can start with breathing into the diaphragm, utilizing the tripod position (check the @birthfit youtube channel for this as it’s part of the #functionalprogression), and manual mobilization from a skilled therapist or bodyworker. #movementislife #birthfitprofessional

These movements are where everything started for me.⁣ ⁣ Finding fitness postpartum was hard for me. I didn't have the core strength and bladder control was slim to none which made any HIIT workout almost impossible. These progressions I learned through the @birthfit program at @birthfit_westpalmbeach_fl helped me rehabilate my core postpartum through primal and functional movement. They are and always will be part of my regular fitness and self care routine.⁣ ⁣ Without learning to slow down and move intentionally, I wouldn't be where I am today. I would've probably made my diastasis worse and would still be peeing myself during every workout. ⁣I wouldn't have been able to repair my core enough to be able to do situps again without damaging myself further. ⁣ The postpartum period is so rough mentally and physically. Take time to slow down and honor your journey and body. Take things back to simple and primal movement. You might just surprise yourself. ⁣✌ ⁣ at The Acreage, Florida

So I’m at my parents’ house with 12 other people prepping for about 25 total for dinner but I needed to make something happen. That’s where my fancy new #BIRTHFITEmPack comes in 😍 . Thanksgiving flow with my little helper at 31 weeks! I hadn’t been squatting below parallel because I really felt that this babe was anything but head down, but at our appointment this week, the midwife said his butt is up and head is down! It feels sooooo good to squat again 💚 . . . You may notice I have some coning in #functionalprogression 1, but I’ve seen a DNS practitioner and we determined that even though it’s not ideal, so much more “good” is taking place during the movement. When I do the Functional Progressions, I sometimes do the first progression laying down and sometimes seated with my back against a wall. Whatever works for me in that moment 🙃

Want a BS line about how we’re a #fitcouple and love working out together? Or would you rather turn on the sound to find out why my husband doesn’t ever want to workout with me? Reason 1: watch us go through the #functionalprogression. I literally cannot stop offering him cues. Reason 2: I can’t count my own reps, but remind him of his. Reason 3. I encouraged him that he’d definitely be able to broad jump in the garage, and then he knocked a shelf over that I then had to fix during our rest interval. Reason 4: We talk about the chickens during the workout. Reason 5: I don’t know, pick one: I complain about the temp, but then also complain when he opens the garage door; I say cheesy things like “trade ya!” enthusiastically during a partner workout; or any number of others. I am the actual worst and I still can’t figure out why he loves me. Sure am grateful he does. (For the record, this is probably only the 10th time we’ve worked out together since having Eldon over five years ago.) #birthfit #birthfitempack #birthfitdad #birthfitdude

From Functional Progression 2 (see post from November 5), here we are demonstrating Functional Progression 3. Start on all fours with a flat back, knees directly under hips and wrists directly under shoulders, reaching through the crown of your head. Palms are pressed into the floor and a solid foundation in upper back and hips. Power should come from your core! Here are three modifications: Arms only – Lift one arm at a time straight out in front of you. Everything else stays stable. Legs only – Lift one leg at a time directly behind you, engaging your core so nothing else moves. Opposite arm and leg – moving at the same time, slow and controlled. As always, keep a neutral spine, shoulders are down and back away from your ears. Functional Progression 2 is a great move of you are experiencing coning. Coning happens when you have a diastasis recti. This is where the rectus abdominus splits at the fascial connection (linea alba). Common in pregnancy, but also in the rest of the population. If you have a diastasis, oblique work can help and Functional Progression 2 addresses that. Start in a seated side plank position, elbow directly under your shoulder, hips stacked. As always, keep a straight, neutral spine, core engaged, reaching through the crown of your head. Lift your hips up slowly, keeping your alignment as steady as possible, then lower back down slowly. Repeat for your desired set amount on each side. Once you've mastered the basic move, you can include arm and/or leg movement for an added challenge. The leg will kick through in one fluid motion as your hips lift up. Be sure to engage core and obliques to keep stabilized. Last week @birthfit_nashville wrapped up a 4 week postpartum series and I was lucky enough to be a part of the group of mamas going through this program. Being a #birthfitcoach for the last year, I have taught many women the #functionalprogression and helped them through the motherhood transition. But this time I was the one going through the postpartum transition and let me just tell you, it’s so impactful and such a game changer!! After having Evelyn, I was taken aback with how much my body had changed and how difficult it was to get my muscles to turn back on and fire properly. Postpartum recovery is no joke, people!! I began my recovery going through the Breath & Flow series which helps you to begin moving your body safely after having a baby. Then I hopped in the Postpartum series which goes deeper into the functional progression and then getting your body ready and able to actually start lifting and working out, all while going at a safe pace for your recovering body. It was crazy cool to feel my body being all wonky the first week and slowly begin to turn back on. I mean, my left glute WOULD NOT fire when squatting the first week!! Like at all!! 🤷🏻‍♀️ But then everything started coming back around (what up muscle memory 🙌). I just can’t say enough about how well this program is designed and how grateful I am to be a part of the @birthfit team. 💛 . And yes I’m wearing a gold sparkly crown because @britteanderson gives the best gift bags and #queenshit.
