In short: it can. . In a few more words: it can... if you let it! 👊🏼💥 . It might be worth answering this question by starting with the definition of “metabolism.” . (Hint: it’s WAY more than just your digestive system.) . Straight out of my first nutrition textbook in college... . 📖 “Metabolism is the sum of all the chemical and physical processes by which the body breaks down and builds up molecules.” . When this question comes up, it’s usually in the context of gaining body fat as we get older. . No need to fear! There is hope, and the power largely rests in your hands... . There are 2 factors main factors which contribute to a slower metabolism, both of which are correlational with age, NOT causational. . 1️⃣ Moving less - the single biggest determinant of metabolism is your amount of Lean Body Mass. This is everything besides body fat (which is quite inactive, metabolically). . And the single biggest aspect of LBM that you can change is your amount of skeletal muscle mass. . As you get older, it becomes more difficult to build/maintain high amounts of muscle mass, but the real issue is that you tend to stop doing the right things to build/maintain that muscle mass. . Your overall activity tends to become more sedentary. Your workouts become less intensive, less frequent, shorter, etc. All of these aspects lead to a lifestyle/workout routine that is simply too easy, and your body will not hold onto muscle it doesn’t see a use for. . (Reduced activity also means a smaller Thermic Effect of Exercise. 🔥) . 2️⃣ Eating less - the digestive system plays a major role in basal metabolism as well! . Smaller energy demands train the body to run on a smaller energy supply. . Older people simply eat less! . Eating less only serves to slow the metabolism further, which, along with moving less, continues the process of losing muscle mass, slowing the metabolism, eating less, etc. . (This also decreases the Thermic Effect of Food, which is why overly restricting calories doesn’t work either. 🔥) . ⚙️ Your metabolism is highly adaptive, so don’t give up hope of turning things around. Your mind and body will be in for a trip, but they can handle it. . Stop blaming your age. 😎 at Surprise, Arizona

If you want to learn how to Clean try segmented 3 position Cleans - Found myself with a free hour as this flippin cold that’s been hangin around claimed yet another victim, my 5pm client! Tried a few ordinary Cleans but since I haven’t done them in gosh knows how long I was very out of position. For me this happens due to a lack of preparation and lack of thought/feeling, during the movement, for where the bar is. - During a segmented Clean (obviously starting light) you pull the bar off the floor to just below your knee, pause, the pause again just above your knee (Hang position) then lastly, pause just below your hip (Dip position), then you explode up and complete the rest of the movement focusing on the shrug and high elbows! - Pausing at each position helps you focus on how the bar feels at each part and also ensures you don’t miss a step. #fitnessfriday today’s post is featuring my friend @amandanottheshow_ who was nice enough to come volleyball 🏐 with me even tho I suck at it. I always say that playing a sport your not good at is a great workout because your constantly chasing the ball... We played for about 45min and then ran around all four courts twice. This was probably the most fun I had working out in a while, and apart from being fun it still has me swore (which is always my goal when I workout) The fact that we played in sand added a lot of resistance while trying to run, but a hard floor court Im sure will be just as good of a work out. But I can’t guarantee it will be as much fun.

Grab a heavy kettlebell and let's get to work! 🔥 . 🔔 Floating Push-Up (push with juuuuuust enough power reach the top!) 🔔 High Pull (this is KB 101, and feels so good!) 🔔 Deadstop Split Squat (starting from scratch each rep makes this 5936384% harder!) 🔔 Seated Goblet Hold (sitting gives some great posture accountability!) 🔔 Tall Plank Drag (keeps your hips perfectly still on this one!) . I've been busier than ever in and outside of the gym, and it's all paying off! . In case you're interested, my personal workouts have been wonderful lately! I'm doing a push/pull/legs split and hitting each group about twice per week. My nutrition has been on par too, and I can see, feel, and measure progress already! . There's something really satisfying about practicing what you preach. 😌 . DB Shoulder Circles 3 x 30s SA Shoulder Press 5 x 10 each Bent over DB Fly 5x15 DB Front Raise 2 x 10 DB Lateral Raise 2x 10 Plank Shoulder Taps 2 x20 V-sit Up DB cross punches 2 x 20 Ply Push Ups 3x 1 min Box Jumps 3x 1 min Rope Slams 3x 1 min I’m going to have to work on my form a lot as I found that my elbows were hurting after using weights. Hopefully that will get better as I improve 🤞🏼 I also attempted plyo push-ups which I didn’t put in here because I almost broke my face 😅 clearly need to work on that a little more... at Boston, Massachusetts

🏃‍♂️Road work was a big part of my routine when I was fighting.. it gives you good lungs, durable legs and a strong MIND. ⚙️ I’ve been adding one run a week into my routine to mix things up, prevent plateau and tbh, mainly to give myself a little mental test. Follow @roballenfitness for more fitness/nutrition info 🙂 . Tag someone who wants to build a bigger butt 👊🏼 . Here’s a little workout that’s focused almost entirely around your glutes. Ideally I would suggest to make this a “leg day” or add in other muscle groups but I know how much everyone wants to grow their glutes. You’ve gotta hit them hard and a few times a week 😎 . You should do some light cardio for 3-5 mins to get warmed up and then stretch out your hip flexors to be able to maximally extend the hips (search for couch stretch) - after that you want to get your glutes ACTIVATED so that you can “feel” them contract . Next step is to BUILD them. This is in the 10-12 rep range and you go as heavy as you can while keeping great form 👍🏼 . The FINISH portion can be put as a little Cardio finisher on any day. It’s just 3 glute focused movements that you can do quickly, without using much weight and the goal is to get your heart rate up . Want to get better at pull ups?? Lift some heavy weights on back day 💪🏼 . Here is a workout Chase and I did last week.. Anytime Chase makes us a workout I know it’s going to be tough, sooo it’s a fun one 😜 . THE WORKOUT . 1a. Cable Rope Rows, 12 reps 1b. Straight arm pull downs - palms down, 8 reps 1c. Straight arm pull downs - palms up, 8 reps Repeat 3x . 2a. Pull ups - NEUTRAL GRIP, to failure 2b. Pull ups - UNDERHAND GRIP, to failure 2c. Pull ups - NARROW GRIP, to failure 2d. Pull ups - WIDE GRIP, to failure Repeat 2x . *DONT BE AFRAID TO MODIFY THESE AS NEEDED!!! Grab the thickest band your gym has if you have to or use an assisted pull up machine. Attempt as many reps as possible. Even if it's half a rep!! . Strength is gained in the failure points. Whatever you do. DO NOT skip any of these sets, even if you feel like you can't do it anymore. Just try! . 3a. Assisted DB Bench Rows, 15 reps (my reps towards the end of the video are a better example of what they should look like) 3b. Leg raises - modify to knee tucks, 15 reps Repeat 4x . 4a. Behind the head Lat Pulldowns, 15 reps 4b. KB Swings, 20 reps Repeat 3x . Thennnn go drink your post workout shake, you're going to need it ;) . . Today we bring you a circuit drill with a twist for your bootcamp and training sessions. The reason I love this circuit is because we don't often include unilateral exercises in our bootcamp. One reason we should is because they are extremely beneficial as strength and coordination builders. Another reason this is a great workout is because you basically get double the work for half the exercises! Because you work left side then right side, or visa versa. As a trainer at Escape Your Limits HQ it was an obvious choice to train up and deliver Escape Fitness programmes. Now although you could say I am biased I have also tried my own workouts, circuits and fun filled sessions using Escape Fitness toys that are also great. What I will say that if time is an issue and you are busy planning for PT sessions. You may not always have the time to plan making it a last min panic to work a class programme on a bit of paper a few mins before it is about to start. With @escapefitness programmes they are ready to go in a box. The only preparation required is to get out the equipment a few mins prior to starting a session. Theres a new workout each week and a with a variety of exercises it never gets boring and ALWAYS gets great results. Today I completed our Escape Fitness Battle Fit course to add to my growing list of certificates and Reps Accreditation points.
