For those who do not know, I was around 283 lbs at the beginning of 2019 and managed to lose 83 lbs in just over 6 months. However, my lack of knowledge of proper nutrition and training cost me a large amount of my strength. . I had always known to squat heavy weight when I was larger, but my technique and infrequent training led to dangerous lifts (second video) and eventually an injury that prevented me from joining @lsupowerlifting my first year of college. . Since then, I’ve spent countless hours to regain the strength I had lost and grow stronger than I ever have been. . I am now 210 lbs and can squat 585 lbs (still a few inches from competition depth in my opinion) vs when I was 283 lbs squatting 585 lbs. . Squatting part 2! And how to increase your vertical part 2. In the first video I am performing 1 1/4 rep banded squats. The goal is to increase my RFD and shorten the transition time between the eccentric and concentric contractions (lengthening and shortening contractions). I control the weight slowly on the way down then rise 1/4 of the way up and pause. From there drop back to the bottom position and try to get up as quickly as possible. You want to go much lighter for these reps around 50-65% 1RM including the band resistance. The band helps speed up the drop from the 1/4 position forcing more eccentric control and a quicker transition as well as accommodating resistance as you gain a bio-mechanically advantaged position towards the top. The second video is another way to try to shorten the transition between eccentric and concentric while being explosive. I would only program this for advanced athletes that have a strong training base and solid mechanics. You need light weights (5-20lbs) in order to be explosive, if they’re too heavy they will slow you down too much and defeat the purpose. Anywhere from 3-5 reps per set, the goal is to jump as high as quickly as possible emphasis on speed over height and safe landings! I would program these type of movements for athletes who are strong but not explosive AKA have a slow RFD (as discussed in the dunking part 1 post). For athletes who are quick but not strong I would program squats like from the squatting part 1 post. Hope you guys enjoyed and learned something new!

I’ve been working with Tracy a long time now, well over a year.
