Look at all this good healthy fat! 🥑😍 Remember when fat was the “enemy!?” So much Information overload on diet and nutrition these days, no wonder it can be confusing! . If you hear anyone say there is only one way to eat to be healthy ie: vegan, vegetarian, Keto, paleo, raw food only, etc....keep one eye open 👁 and take that info with a grain of salt! HELLLLLOOO 👋🏼 ••• Sorry I haven’t been able to be as active on here like I usually am! You guys know I started my internship two weeks ago and I’ve pretty much been full time so it’s been a little crazy! So far it’s going well though! - I’m about to start week 3 of @shona_vertue ’s program #thevertuemethod and so far I’m really enjoying it! I’m not usually a yoga/meditation person but this is exactly what I need right now! Today I woke up at 4 to teach a class so some yoga and stretching was just what I needed! - I’ve also been able to use the breathing techniques she teaches to help me fall asleep and calm stress and anxiety 🧘‍♀️ AND I noticed that over the past few days my hips haven’t been popping like they normally do (I’m an old lady 😂) idk if it’s related to the program but it’s been nice to not feel like my leg is gonna snap off 🤣 - That’s my quick update! I started my journey in August of 2017 after realizing that I didn't recognize the girl in my reflection any longer. I had many emotional changes in my life in the past 8 years and found myself suffering through some depression and as a result I found comfort in food and the weight seemed slowly show up....which caused more depression. I also had a sedentary lifestyle and job. I joined a gym and did a crossfit bootcamp 3 to 4xs weekly but only lost 13 pounds....but what I gained were several physical injuries. Sometimes you have to block out your own thoughts that try to discourage you. Silence your inner critic! No one is more hard me than myself. It's a battle - am I good enough?, what will people think?, etc... SILENCE! I am very good at keeping those thoughts inside and I am working on that every day. Thanks to this new health and fitness journey I'm on - I've been reading a lot of personal development and listening to spiritual podcasts. I'm learning things about myself that I never realized, which is so freaking cool! I AM GOOD ENOUGH. I AM CAPABLE. It has been such a rainy & chilly week here in #norcal ☔️. I thought it would be fun to share a NSV that I discovered from this. My one rain jacket needed washing, so I grabbed this waterproof winter coat of mine. When we moved to Nebraska in 2014, I was in desperate need of some winter gear..this Florida girl ☀️didn’t own any! My sweet stepmom took me shopping before our big move and this coat was one of the things she bought me! It got me through 4 years of cold Nebraska weather 🥶⛄️, but last winter this coat was so snug that I could barely comfortably zip it. Now I have tons of room to spare! It’s little things like this that remind me how far I have come🤩. All thanks to a random day in May when I decided to take the plunge and try out 2B. So you think you don't need to take rest days? . We all know exercise is important for our overall health and wellbeing but too much exercise can be doing your more harm than good. . While we know exercising regularly lowers inflammation, over-exercising can increase inflammation. Our body experiences acute inflammation from the stress that is put on it from training. This inflammation caused by exercise will subside in a few days once the stress is removed and your body has had time to recover. . However, problems arise when the acute inflammation becomes chronic. Chronic inflammation occurs when you constantly put stress on the body and do not give it time to rest and recover. . Anxiety can be crippling. It is probably no surprise to you that anxiety disorders are one of the most common forms of mental illness in the United States, affecting about 18% of the adult population. The conventional approach to anxiety is to try to balance neurotransmitters within the brain with drugs. Functional medicine seeks the root cause of what is contributing to anxiety.
