ALTERNATIVE EXERCISE TO SQUATS ARE GOOD MORNING EXERCISE . . This is one of the best exercises to develop your lower back, #GLUTES and hamstrings . . To perform a #goodmorningexercise begin by placing the BROOMSTICK on your back in about the same position as you would a #squatbar . . The first thing to move during a good morning should be your hips. With a very slight bend in your knees, push your hips back. . . You should maintain a good arch in your lower back and keep your head/chest up. . . Continue until your low back is about parallel to the floor and raise back up. . . LEG WORKOUT SWIPE⬅️: ⚡️ You can make any of these exercises harder by adding a weight aswell as the resistance band ⚡️ 1. Banded squats- place the bottom of the band around your feet and stand on it and put the top of the band over your shoulders then squat down come half way up then squat back down and then back up that counts as 1 rep superset this half squat pulses (5x10-15) ⚡️ 2. Band squat pulses- start squatted down and then come up half way then back down squeezing your legs throughout (5x10-15) ⚡️ 3. Good mornings- place the bottom of the band around your feet and the top part over the back of your neck then bend forward with your chest high and a slight bend in your knees as you push your glutes out then when you’ve reached as far down as you can go come back to the starting position slowly squeezing your glutes all the way up (5x10-15) ⚡️ 4. Good mornings! The most underrated/ignored exercise? The Good Morning exercise got its name because it resembles bowing at the waist as if to say, "good morning." You begin with a barbell across your spine of scapula and hinge your hip back, but finish with your torso nearly parallel to the floor. The erector spinae muscles of the lower back work isometrically(no change in the length of the muscle) to keep the spine in an extended position while the hamstrings and gluteus maximus work isotonically(change in the length of the muscle) to perform hip extension. So this good morning variation just posted actually works the opposite muscle groups of a good morning! In a good morning you are using your back extensors, glutes and hamstrings which are working eccentrically as you come down and concentrically as you return to standing. With the band exercise, the concentric phase is when you are bending over using your abdominals and hip flexors primarily and the eccentric phase is the slow controlled return to standing against the band. ———————————————————————————— That’s exactly the goal of this exercise. Precisely the correct way to view it and I have to thank a colleague for this explanation and take no credit for those words. This is "Good Morning" exercise which trains hamstrings, spine and abs. For newbies its setup is really tough as it heavily weighs on lower back. Leg Day SCENES 🍑 IMO, form will ALWAYS trump how heavy you lift, so while I may not be the strongest of individuals, I know that I am executing each movement in a way that ⬇️ injury risk and targets the specific muscles I am trying to work. I’ve been in enough gyms now to realise that most people have missed the memo here are ‘ego lifting’ and allowing their form to completely fly out the window (and tbh, sometimes their form LOOKS like they’re about to fly out the window 🤦🏼‍♀️). Long story short: BEFORE you advance (ie increase weight on a lift) PLEASE make sure your form is correct or else you’re at risk of injury or even worse, being laughed at behind your back by the gym PTs. And if you’re unsure if your form is any good here are my tips: 1 - Film your sets! Yes you may feel a bit awkward, but this is literally for your own benefit and will help you work out what needs to change. 2 - Ask a PT. Most PTs LOVE to flex their knowledge and would be delighted to give you form tips. Ask away. 3 - Watch a video! I’m 99% sure if you’re training, you have quick access to your phone. If so, hop on YouTube, type in the exercise you’re wanting to do and voila, watch away. Any more tips? If you have never tried Goodmorning before or are not familiar with the movement,learn the original one before hopping onto this one. This gem is from @coachmarkcarroll 's program. I never go heavy on Goodmorning's coz they require a whole lot of core work and balance. . FORM TIPS💎 🌼Choose a weight with which you can perform 12 reps atleast. 🌼Widen stance in which you feel comfortable.Everyone's stance in which they feel comfortable is going to be different. 🌿 Try to break the form from your hips. Imagine having a walll behind you and push your hips towards it. 🌿 Keep your eyes towards the floor,a few inches ahead from where you're standing. 🌸 Control the movement all the way when going down. PARALLEL TO THE FLOOR IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE AIMING FOR. 🌸 Do not force yourself to go parallel if your mobility doesn't allow you to.

How to perform a good morning! ☀️ • Good mornings are a great exercise for building strength in the glutes, hamstrings and lower back. However, if performed wrong it can be a risk for injury. So, here’s some tips to keep in mind! ⬇️ • 1️⃣ Set up like you would for a squat. Engage your core to keep your back neutral throughout the movement. • 2️⃣ Take a deep breath and push your hips back (hip hinge) and lower until your torso is about parallel or until you feel tension in your hamstrings. • 3️⃣ Push your hips forward and use your glutes (not your back) to stand up to starting position. Exhale at the top of the movement. • ❌ Common Mistakes ❌ • 1️⃣ Rounding the lower back. Your spinal alignment should never change. Engage your core and this should help keep your spine neutral. • 2️⃣ Looking upwards. Your gaze should remain looking at the floor to again, ensure your not straining your neck and keeping the spine neutral. • 3️⃣ Bending the knees too much. Doing so will turn this into a quad exercise and we want to target the posterior chain. • Good mornings can be intimidating at first, but it’s a great exercise to grow the glutes, hamstrings and build a strong lower back. • My tips for beginners: • 👉🏼 Practice the hip hinge. 👉🏼 Practice without the weight. 👉🏼 Practice with a resistance band. • I hope this helped!
