The Quadrille Dance was first introduced in the French society in the 1760s. It began as a dance in cotillions where only two couples could dance. Later, two more couples were added to the dance and the dance was now called “quadrille des contredanses”. The dance reached England in the 1810s and it became extremely popular there, other parts of Europe, and their colonies. Many West Indians still partake in this folk tradition. #WestIndianAmerican #WestIndian #WestIndianAndProud #WIAtribe #Caribbean #American #Folkdance #Quadrille #Jamaican #Martinican #Lucian #Bahamian #VirginIslander #Trinidadian #Bajan #Guadeloupean #Aruban #Antiguan #Vincentian #WestIndies Big up @braataproductions for the vid.

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐞! 🇬🇵 • She's a Guadeloupean model, entrepreneur, photographer, videographer and storyteller born in France with strong connections to her mother country. From my perspective, she’s also an activist in her own right as she unapologetically shares her views against France’s continued colonial rule and racism. Enjoy her story! Link in bio!

"People say that there is a special connection to the Ka once you like it and you’ve done it for so long they say the drum is calling you (the drum call)." • "The drum in Guadeloupe is called the Ka, which is actually really interesting because it’s made from wine barrels that our ancestors used to get from the masters and used goat skin to put on top of it to create the instrument and up until today it’s made the same way."
