Feelin fresh 😁😁 So instead of deloading this week I decided to get ill and not train at all 🤒 Aimed to start training next week but towards the end of this week I was feeling much better. Therefore heavy bench day! . Many sets of 4 today with underachieving being the main aim to get the body used to handling heavier weights again. Aiming to train at 95% capacity for a week is a very useful tool if you are coming back from a certain amount of time off from training eg injury, illness, holiday etc . If you’re someone who comes back from time off from the gym and goes straight into RPE 10 lifts, you’re a complete dumbass. Please stop being a dumbass 😑 . Side note: first heavy pressing session with zero elbow pain. Just goes to show what happens when you spend time taking apart technique

As promised my 400 pound dead lift! This has been my goal since the first day I started dead lifting about a year ago. I've been around 345 and could lift 365 but not with perfect form. My wife hurt her back so we both stopped dead lifting for a few weeks. I started doing reverse hack squats and focusing on my quads. For this one I did a warm up with light weight. Then one 385 pull, then hit the 400 pull in the video. After that I hit 385 again, 365, 315 and then at the end I always do a few set of 15 at 225. I know I have a slight arch in my back but it sure went up a lot easier than I expected! As you can see in the end of the video I was super excited! I did my first squat ever in May of this year and could barely do 75 lbs and my form was awful. Over the past 17 weeks I have improved my form drastically and this week did 2 reps at 225lbs. POST WORKOUT - wanted to break down the good and the bad from yesterday’s session: ➖ THE GOOD✅ •175kg trap bar deadlift uploaded before this (think the bar weighs 25kg). •80kg x7 close grip bench*. ➖ *Context: 2.5 years ago I separated my AC joint doing close grip bench. I haven’t done any close grip since that point and haven’t really done any flat bench in the past year entirely. To do close grip for the first time and hit 80x7 I was literally over the fucking moon with. ➖ THE BAD❌ •Squats - they weren’t even bad lol they were actually good buuuut; >Last session I only managed 1x5 with 107.5kg instead of 3x5. >This session I managed 2x5 so still a set short. Will be resetting to 100kg next session and re-climbing. •OHP - again meant to be getting 60kg 3x5 but I Keep only getting the first set and then failing the last 2. ➖ I think the OHP is a work capacity issue - meaning I just can’t do heavy OHP directly after squats that kick my arse. Hopefully after a quick reset and working back up I’ll be able to push to the next sticking point 📈 ➖ Want to get some more informative stuff up but I’m away from my laptop a lot this weekend, I’ll do my best! The Importance of taking progress pictures . Im a huge fan of progress pics, just not really of posing, mostly because I cannot, for the life of me hold a normal facial expression when doing so (hence why all progress pics are of my back) . Back is a muscle group that I don’t think can ever be TOO big. The ability to lock your shoulder blades back and down, while extending your upper back is the biggest stabiliser you have in your upper body, which contributes to almost every upper body exercise you do, with some lower movements too. In essence: Bigger Back = Bigger Everything Else. . 1st Pic - Sept 2015 2nd Pic - May 2016 3rd Pic - March 2017 - post tan so looks a lot better! . A good amount of progress for under 2 years and expecting much more. A lot of hours put in to learning mechanics and contracting the shit out of this muscle group! At 36 years old, I need to rethink my strength program strategy and nutrition. My body not able to manage the same amount of stress. I love to train with high frequency and intensity. 😳 I was going to share a post about @petermolnarofficial (left) a few weeks ago as he recently competed and looks insanely proportioned and aesthetic in his posing. I think his proportions and small waist led me to believe he was near 6 feet tall, but the other gentleman here, @josh_maley is 6'6" from what I hear. . . For the record, I am 6'7". I feel tiny now.
