I’ve been meditating for over a year, and I’m currently on a 314-day streak, which is 63 hours of meditating. Wow! But guess what? I’m still not an expert, and my mind still wanders, but I show up and try every single day, which is all that matters. . It’s World Meditation Day, so I’m inspired to share this with you. Truth be told: I wanted to start meditating for a very long time before I did. But I was overwhelmed, didn’t know where to start and thought I didn’t have the time. Boy, was I wrong. It’s so easy to get going, and it can take as little as 5 to 10 minutes a day. . All you have to do is download the @headspace or @calm on your phone, (they both have free trials, but Headspace is better for beginners), use some headphones, find a quiet spot, breathe and listen to the guided instructions. Then do it again the next day. That’s it! . I’ve become more patient, much more grateful and more present in my daily life since I started. And I crave it now! I do 10 minutes each morning as soon as I wake up, and it sets the tone for my day. . If you’re on the fence, give it a go, because you literally have nothing to lose, but you have SO much to gain! #worldmeditationday #meditation

🧘🏼‍♀️WORLD MEDITATION DAY 🧘🏽‍♂️ When we experience trauma we often find our ‘thing’ to get us through. This could be anything. For me it was meditation. It’s taught me more than I could ever have imagined. Every day I learn something new. I feel more connected and know what I need. I notice the signs when I’m triggered by something and dig deep to find out why. I have tried a lot of things in the past but this one has stuck. It’s not always easy and it’s not always fun but I don’t know where I’d be without it. I only wish I had found it sooner ❤️

Today was our first offsite schooling session in months! We are lucky to have Coilog on our doorstep less than 5km away 😃👌🐴 they are taking online booking where you ca secure exclusive use of an arena with a course, grid work or dressage arena set up already for you. 😮 Sammy was fantastic - I was just reminded again of how lucky I am to have him - the most honest and enthusiastic horse I’ve ever been on. We pinged around a metre track and it felt comfortable which after a long break is a good start. I’ve taken home some areas to work on - huge thanks to @neamhsmith for videoing me so that I could do this. 😍 I’ll be working on my positioning and the horses position and straightness towards the fence to help me get his hocks under him so that we meet the fence on a positive forward moving stride. We had some of these today but also some “woah” strides on the way in where it got too low and on the hand. I’m itching to be able to travel as far as @sarah_ennis_eventing @sarahenniseventing for a lesson as I am using so much of what we covered in the clinic I did with her a few months ago whenever I jump. I’m most delighted today about the level of control I had with Sammy - we felt like a team and I enjoyed some well needed headspace away from work and distractions. Today almost felt like a holiday from this weirdness. An early morning walk to the canal to pick up breakfast in the sunshine as people on boats began to wake up was reminiscent of hunting for crumpets at Glastonbury. The relationship between social media and mental health has generated a lot of concern. While there is some evidence that too much social media can increase stress, it’s not all bad news. In a UK study, young people who were online for at least 120 minutes per day felt more connected and supported by their peers. Money often costs too much... . . Money can cost you too much time - working long hours and overtime, thinking about work and projects during your down or home time, and waking up early with late finishes. . . Money can cost too much of your health. Those long hours catch up to you, especially if your like me and can be sitting on your bum at work for often over 10 hours at a time. You end up with a sore back and neck, as your muscles weaken away. Other examples include working with hazardous materials or chemicals (aviation fuel anyone??) and exposure to radiation (radhaz) and increased UV. . . Money can also cost too much of your mental health. This is an important consideration as work burn out is a thing; chronic or built up fatigue can have a negative effect on your mental health and overall happiness. All because your working hard for the money! . . Money can also cost you relationships - prioritising work and money over meaningful, healthy relationships, can sometimes lead them to fail - or at least become strained. . . That’s why I think it’s important to cut down your cost of living as much as possible, and generate as much passive income streams as possible such as from ETF and LIC investments to help cover that cost of living. Worst case if they don’t cover your cost of living entirely you can work in Bunnings in the plant department on a casual basis, right? 😅🌱

A recent systematic review and meta-analysis in the Journal of Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment further explores the association between anxiety, depression and PCOS. The authors included original reports where the prevalence of psychiatric disorders was compared between women with an established diagnosis of PCOS and those without PCOS.  Six studies qualified for this analysis; all reported on rates of depression and five reported on rates of anxiety. ⁣ ⁣ The paper concluded that depression and anxiety are more prevalent in patients with PCOS. Women with PCOS were nearly three times as likely to report anxiety symptoms compared to women without PCOS. Similarly, patients with PCOS were more likely to have depressive symptoms compared to women without PCOS https://womensmentalhealth.org/posts/polycystic-ovarian-syndrome-pcos-linked-anxiety-depression/⁣ ⁣ Early in my PCOS diagnosis, I didn’t know there was a link between my mental health and my PCOS. I would tell myself I was in a funk, and that I just had to snap out of it. One day I’d feel perfectly fine, and the next I’d wake up with tightness in my chest and a racing heart, completely stressed out even though nothing in my circumstances had changed from one day to the next. I didn’t know the problem was my PCOS.⁣ ⁣ There is a lot of attention given to nutrition and exercise as part of a healthy PCOS lifestyle, and much less attention given to taking care of our mental health. I know I personally have a tendency to put my wellness needs last, and by the end of the day I’m too tired to do any type of self care. We need to view our mental health as a priority, it’s as important as eating leafy greens and drinking water.⁣ ⁣ For a list of the things I do to help with my anxiety and stress swipe right.⁣ ⁣ Another tool I use (not pictured) is meditation. My two favorite meditation programs are Headspace and Circle Bloom. This week is Mental Health Awareness week 🧠 All this week I am sharing tips and techniques that have helped me overcome post natal depression, after the birth of my little one, in the hope that they may help someone in need 😘 _ Today also marks World Meditation Day 🧘🏼‍♀️ Now, I’ll admit I struggled with meditation to start with. I found it really hard to switch off and often felt like giving up because I wasn’t doing it ‘right’. Today's the world didn't want me to exercise🏃‍♀️🚫🏋🏼‍♀️ My keenness to get moving and want to abide by social distancing resorted in a tumble, grazes and a bruised pinky. It's World Meditation Day🧘‍♀️ which fits perfectly with Mental Health Awareness week. Taking the time for yourself and having a moment of mental relaxation is great for clearing the mind, relieving stress and promoting good mental health.🧘‍♂️ . I feel like it has really helped me with anxiety and stress by being much more present. We try and meditate before starting work for just 15 minutes to clear the mind and start fresh to help us focus and be productive! Obviously I still get distracted but it definitely helps 🌿 . I know this picture doesn't have anything to do with meditation but I miss home 😅 anyway there are soo many resources out there, give it a go! I use @headspace which also has a free trial. It can be as little as 5 minutes or by just taking a few deep breaths to help ground youself ✨

2020 has been a very tough year for everybody. 2020 has been the most challenging and toughest year for me as a nurse. My patience, strength and courage has been tested numerous times but this year takes the cake. • • I have been always on the go, always ready to help, always ready to take on more assignments/tasks that I had forgotten to take some time for myself. This eventually took a toll on me and after being deployed to a nursing home to help during this pandemic, everything that has been bottled up and put aside has flooded my gates and eventually broke it.. all thoughts and feelings flowed through like a flood. I did not know to control it which caused me to hide in that dark place. • • I was so angry, so frustrated that it started eating me up day by day. I noticed that I was not myself anymore and I felt helpless. I did not know what to do or how to fix myself. Until one day, I decided to take some time off to fix “me” to fix what I can still fix. • • This past two weeks has been a healing process for me. With the help of @headspace and @arielle_bloom through her program: navigating nutrition, I learned to find ways to express my feelings, understand my feelings and analyze it. Figure out what I can do instead of what cannot be done. Figure out how to be better instead of letting it eat you up little by little. • • This process has been challenging for me but in a good way. I have learned to listen to my body more and only focus on what I CAN control. • • THANK YOU to all the people who had reached out to me throughout this past few months. It really has been so tough and challenging but I am getting through it. Taking it day by day knowing that there are a lot of people who cares and loves me. This is just a beautiful breakthrough for me! • • Always be thankful for what you have! Always be content with what you have! My non-negotiable this week is to meditate 30min per day. Don’t have time? Don’t care, make it. Don’t want to? Don’t care, do it. 🧘🏼‍♀️✨ #NonNegotiable . . The goal of meditation isn’t to NOT have thoughts. In fact, there is no goal of meditation other than to just be. During meditation it is to observe your thoughts (with nonjudgement & nonattachment) and then return to the present moment/your breath. Over and over again. You realize you are not your thoughts, you are the awareness and being behind them. . . My MBSR (mindfulness bases stress reduction) instructor taught us something during meditation that has been a game-changer. It is to “label” your thoughts, briefly& quick, so you can move on and not get tangled up in the thought, but let it go. This does NOT mean casting your judgement of “good” or “bad.” It’s recognizing the thought, addressing what it is, and returning to the present moment. . . It’s been incredibly helpful for me to Recognize my thought patterns and where my brain tends to go. It also helps me from going on mental tangents and spiraling thoughts.
