Okay, so what the heck does that even MEAN? • This phrase really sums of the core of developing and growing muscles. • When we lift we place a lot of stress on our muscles resulting in microscopic tears in the muscle fibers (a large muscle tear-injury is not the same thing). As your body works to repair the fibers your muscles begin to grow. (So that soreness you feel after a heavy workout session is a good thing!) • Those periods of rest after a workout are incredibly important to allow your body the time to repair those muscle fibers that were just used. This is why rest days and incorporated into workout plans and why it's usually advised to wait about 48 hours before training the same muscle group. • And equally as important as lifting in the gym is what you eat outside of the gym. Women go on birth control for many different reasons and it can have such negative effects on the body. It can cause mood swings, weight gain, depression, acne, blood clotting, and even stunt your progress in the gym! I am currently on a pill and have noticed the worst changes. Personally it has stunted my motivation, caused weight gain and muscle loss, increased my appetite, and gave me worse acne than puberty ever did. I’m not here to tell you not to be safe and use contraception, but just to share my experiences. By suppressing ovulation women prevent that extra bump of testosterone released during a cycle. Without testosterone, or adequate amounts, it’s hard to build strength, muscle mass, and very hard to maintain a favorable body composition. Long term use of synthetic hormones can also increase heart attacks, stokes, breast cancer, and other medical problems. Booze Tips! 🍾 In celebrating the spirit of the season, if you want raise a glass and 🥂 with those around you at holiday gatherings, by all means, go ahead and enjoy yourself. JUST... . . HAVE. A. PLAN. . . 🍺 Decide ahead how many you will have and stick to that number. . . 🍷 Eat something first! Ya definitely don’t want to start drinking on an empty stomach. . . . 🍹 Order only the good stuff. Go for high quality alcohol and skip the add-ins like juices, mixers & tonics that have extra sugar. . . 🥃 Seltzer & ice! Seltzer & ice! In a nice tall glass with a small pour of quality booze. Make that drink last. . . . 🍸 Placebo “Mocktail”. No one will know it’s not alcohol if you put a little garnish in there like berries, lime, mint, etc. . . 😎Ask a buddy (spouse, trusted friend, etc.) to check in with you and help you stay on course through the evening. They can also 1) help distract that one person who is always trying to refill your drink. 2) get you a glass of water a few times during the night. . . . 🥳 Eat, drink, and be merry. BUT, stick to the plan, and know that if you overdo it: - you’re more likely to think it’s a fantastic idea to hit up the dessert table for the third time. - your sleep quality will be shit (even if you sleep all night, alcohol suppresses your REM sleep). - your metabolism will slow and you’ll wake up dehydrated (headache!) - if you’re currently trying to lose extra body fat, you just slowed your progress down for several days. . . 🎄 Cheers to successful holiday partying! 🎅

It's the best feeling in the world. I finally feel like my lungs aren't on fire. I still have a lingering cough, but it's not as bad as it was. . I get sick once a year. And it's usually a doozy. This time was no different. . 2 weeks of a cough that caused me to have asthma attacks. A runny nose that was so bad, I ended up looking like Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer. . . Cough medicine. Rest. My favorite chocolate yumminess. Soft tissues. And lots of hot tea and #medicineballs (thanks @starbucks ) . Now it's time to get back to working on my goals.
