You were consistent with your diet for weeks and lost control for one day. What do you do? Well, just like you can’t make all of your progress in one day, you can’t lose it either. - My suggestion is to forget it and move on. Don’t try to compensate by starving yourself or doing excessive cardio. This is a very bad habit to get into. Instead, just get back to your usual eating and training routine the very next day. If you were making progress before the slip up, you’ll continue making progress after it. Most importantly, don’t get discouraged because of one bad day and let it spiral out of control because that can severely derail your progress whereas just one day will be extremely minimal. Here is some more helpful information from your parish Health & Wellness Team on the other aspects of good health that will help you be your best self, healthy and vibrant! The best, most concise nutritional advice I’ve ever heard is the simple three part suggestion from author Michael Pollan: 1) Eat Food. That means real, natural food as opposed to the heavily processed, manufactured foods that constitute too large a percentage of our modern American diet. We’ve all heard the saying, “You are what you eat”. So ask yourself, Should I choose food that is fast, cheap and easy? Choose a wide variety of healthy, natural foods. And eat the rainbow of colors that God has provided in the fruits and vegetables of the plant kingdom, 7 to 13 servings each day (a serving is about the size of your fist). 2) Not too Much. By most reckoning, at least two thirds of the U.S. population are overweight or obese. Food choices are responsible for much of the problem, but the quantity of unhealthy calories consumed is a significant factor as well. Chew your food well for maximum benefit. And slow down when you eat! It takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to register the message with your brain that it’s full. If you eat too fast, you may have eaten that 2nd or 3rd helping before the message arrives that the 1st helping was plenty. 3) Mostly Plants. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and legumes (beans) are the best foods for the human body. We can debate how much meat and dairy in the diet are good or bad, but nobody seriously questions the benefits of plant foods. Plants provide fiber and protective plant chemicals, vitamins and minerals that can’t be obtained from any other food sources. And plans are nutrient rich, but not generally calorie dense. When you eat a healthy diet and maintain a healthy body weight, you’ve taken two big steps toward having a stronger immune system, which is your primary defense against all disease, chronic or acute. And, you honor and thank God for the gift of your body, which St. Paul tells us is a temple of the Holy Spirit. #ololcctn #healthandwellness

For a long time I couldn't exercise like I wanted to. I had a back condition that stopped me. For the last year I have been gradually building up how much I do which compared to some people might not be a lot, but for me it's miraculous!⁠ ⁠ I have upped the amount I'm doing in the last couple of months and I have noticed such a difference in my mental health. I am much happier and less likely to dwell on things than I did before. I don’t like to overcomplicate my life. I have very limited time as a mom of 2 ,wife, photographer and behavior technician. I honestly hate reading labels, because truthfully all the chemicals gave me anxiety. When I first started using Young Living, I thought I was just getting essential oils, but the more I dug-in, I realized how much I could trust this brand to help overhaul my house and truly “detox” it from all the chemicals I was using. I’ve been using Thieves for the last few months, and I love it. When you use a versatile concentrate like Thieves Household cleaner you are cutting down on cost, waste and chemicals. I don’t really see a downside. Not many people know but Kinsley had eczema as a baby. Her skin was super sensitive to everything that had fragrance in it. • • • Now I don’t have to lock up the cabinet under the kitchen sink so that my kids don’t get into the Cascade and Lysol. If you haven’t looked those harmful products up on the EWG site or the Think Dirty app then please do your research. It’s TERRIFYING what these products can do to the human body…developmental and reproductive toxicity, cancer, asthma/respiratory. I even found terrifying ingredients in Meyers all-purpose spray (what I was using)…pay attention to the last three ingredients. Methylisothiazolinone (one of the last 3 ingredients) can cause nerve damage which is also in antibacterial products too…this is not just a mild skin irritant…this is possible nerve damage. So I taught my first dance class yesterday since knee surgery, let me just say IT WAS FABULOUS! I almost cried at the end. I’m so happy to be back and not in the kind of pain I was in the last time I taught class. I’m pretty sure my heart rate was like that all day, which is another story for another day 😬 • I experienced a first! We are doing a much needed 21 Day Cut in our VIP program that will include smoothies. I got the stuff and made one. It had kale in it which made me very nervous. I’m happy to report, it was absolutely delicious! • Pretty pumped to be back focused on my health after quarantine, knee surgery, vacation, I’ve been a mess. Great day protocol: Emotional support was the main health issue I was dealing with and seeking help with when I first found essential oils. I was walking through one of the most difficult seasons of my life and didn’t want another medication to mask my systems. It wasn’t until years into my wellness journey with EO’s that I discovered Gary Young’s Great Day Protocol. I combine the techniques in this protocol with my daily devotions affirming the truths that God speaks in His word. Step 1: Start with Valor, also known for balancing the body’s electrical energy. Apply a few drops in the palm of your left hand, gently rub your palms together, and bring your oiled palms to your nose and inhale. Set your intention for the day, utilizing the grounding properties of this blend. Apply 1 drop of Valor on the back of your neck and then place another drop on the inside of your wrists and hold your wrist together for a moment. We would like to highlight another member on The Fathers and Sons Project team: Dr Alvin Thomas (@Dr_AT758 ), a clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies at @UWSoHE helps lead a Black men’s mental health support group in Madison, Wisconsin, alongside other health experts. During this critical time in our nation, this program is much needed. In Wisconsin about 29 percent of COVID-19 deaths are in the Black community though Black Wisconsinites comprise less than 7 percent of the state’s overall population. Dr. Thomas specializes in the mental health of men and boys and remains concerned about how this disparity could be adding to the already heavy emotional load Black men and boys carry in America. The live online sessions feature mental health discussion to help men cope with the added stressors of COVID-19 on daily life. The sessions which began in early April, along with several fellow health and well-being experts in Wisconsin, have featured state and county officials like Lieutenant Governor @theothermandela and Madison Mayor @satyarhodesconway .
