It's true the saying that: until we understand WHY we have emotions and WHAT function they serve, we cannot ever hope to harness them and effectively change them. #DBT tells us that emotions have 3 functions, understanding each of these can help you understand the emotion itself and what it's telling you. Sometimes our emotions don't necessarily fit a situation, but they are still giving us information that we need to take note of. Understanding emotions, makes you more aware of them which begins the process being able to decide what to do with them in a healthy way. 1. Emotions motivate action-- and a lot of this is automatic. Your emotion causes your body and brain to act without having to really think much about it. This motivation for action helps us overcome obstacles. A good example of this is a feeling of guilt when not following a meal plan 100%; this feeling of guilt motivates us to do a better job at following the treatment plan in order to recover. 2. Emotions communicate to others-- they let people know how we are feeling and what's going on within us. This helps people understand us, and can better facilitate social interactions. This also helps when we have trouble verbally expressing how we feel; things like body language or facial expressions are great communicators. For example, if you're feeling sad you may have a crumpled posture and a frown indicating to people around you that you may need to be comforted and approached with kindness. 3. Emotions self-validate-- meaning they give us information about what is going on around us. People with eating disorders often have numbed emotions to the point that this self-validation is ineffective at the moment, or can be misread. Deep down though, many people with eating disorders have feelings of apprehension about the disorder which directs them to seek the help they need to recover. If you'd like to learn more about emotion regulation, or the functions of your emotions join our DBT-informed skills groups. Call our office today! #wellbeingwarriors #edrecovery #dbt

This is a post you’ll want to bookmark for later! ❤️ ⠀⠀ 💎 The way you see and experience your body actually has very little to do with your physical self. No, really! It’s true! ⠀⠀ 💎 #Bodyimageconcerns are much more about your inner world. What have you internalized about society’s beauty standards? 💄💅🏻👙👠 What stressors are in your life right now? How are your close relationships? Are there other difficult emotions going on? ⠀⠀ 💎 It’s very easy in our culture to get in a habit of wanting to change our bodies in response to a variety of difficult issues. Hello #dietculture ! But how often are we blaming our bodies for problems that we would rather not face? ⠀⠀ 💎 I remember a time when I was pregnant and I could not find ANYTHING to wear. 🤰🏼It wasn’t that I didn’t have the maternity clothes. I was just getting extremely frustrated with how I looked no matter what I put on. I had never been so distressed about getting dressed before! But, guess what? I realized it wasn’t about my body. I realized that I was feeling really stressed at work and there was a particular case that was really bothering me. Once I realized that, I could address the issues at work that needed to be addressed. ⠀⠀ 💎 My #poorbodyimage wasn’t a sign that my body was problematic (it wasn’t). My poor body image was a sign that there were difficult issues going on beneath the surface. 🌊 ⠀⠀ 💎 When have you been able to crack the code and relieve the issues underlying your poor body image? Tell me below! 👇👇👇 ⠀⠀

This year in the CrossFit open, I thought I did worse than last year. I was sick for half of it and didn't care much other than participating. Turns out not caring served me well because I placed 10,000 spots better this year! That has been my biggest improvement in the last 5 years since doing the CrossFit open. This time of year can be really confusing and overwhelming when it comes to the food choices we make and the feelings we have about our bodies. It’s can be stressful enough for many of us (toxic family members, grief, illness, financial pressure etc) without the body image and food bullsh*t that likes to make an appearance at this time of year. On one hand we’re told to enjoy our Christmas lunch and dinners, I mean we’ve cooked enough food to feed an entire city... but Aunty Beryl doesn’t hesitate to comment on your food choices or your body... or maybe even the latest fad diet she’s on. Or maybe your body has changed a lot since you last saw your extended family and you’re worried about judgement (self judgement too!). Do you have a habit of comparing yourself to other family members... their size, their food intake. You’re concerned about overindulging and feeling ‘out of control’ (don’t worry by the way, this is totally normal). . Whatever your concerns are this Christmas, your biggest cheerleader (ME!!) is here to support you. For a limited time, I will be offering once-off 90 minute sessions to guide and support you implement strategies that will help you survive and thrive this Christmas. If you’re feeling a bit anxious in the lead up to the silly season, these sessions are a great way help you ease some of your fears and feel confident and empowered to be yourself ❤️ Your session will include email check-ins and follow ups in the lead up (and after) the festive period as well as relevant resources and tools that will help you stay body positive this Christmas. Places will be limited, so if you are interested, let me know and I can send you some info 🥰 YOUR INVESTMENT: $95 all inclusive And if you’ve been thinking about coaching but aren’t sure about committing to a 3-month series, these sessions offer a little taster as to how coaching works and what to expect, so do take advantage of it!

Guilt has no place in eating. What you’re eating doesn’t matter. This is all part of making peace with food. If guilt is something you experience, know that you learned you should feel guilty for eating that food. And you can unlearn it. This is a long, slow process that can take years. But also a vital part of healing your relationship with food.

Something I’ve found to be a great tool when I’m struggling with bad body image is reality testing. 🙌🏼 It’s pretty much in the name but it involves taking a belief you hold, applying it to a real life setting and seeing what happens. ‼️ Example - ‘if I put on weight, that is unhealthy’. Reality testing this would involve asking yourself ‘have I actually experienced any health related impacts?’, ‘what about the people I know in larger bodies who are fitter than I am?’, ‘what about the people I know with eating disorders who are skinnier than I am?’ and ‘why am I having this thought?’. 🤔 Another example ‘you fight like a girl’ - ‘have you ever watched a women’s UFC fight? or a mother protecting her child?’ 🦁 Reflecting on thoughts, feelings and societal standards can help you realise that sometimes they’re actually just bullshit 🤷🏼‍♀️ • #bodypositive #bodyimage #bodyinspiration #healthylifestyle #healthateverysize #curvy #feminist #curvywomen #underwear #selfcare #selflove #healthy #antidiet #bodyneutrality #beauty #confidence #acceptance #bodyappreciation #celebratemysize #weightstigma #realitytesting

How can we help our children form a healthy perception of their bodies, making them less vulnerable to body dissatisfaction? 🤷‍♀️⁣ ⁣ Children are absorbing everything in their environment. They notice early on, if a parent has a negative or positive attitude towards his or her own body. 🧽⁣ ⁣ Children often adopt their parent’s views about weight and size and children who are teased about their body size or shape by parents, siblings, or peers are at greater risk of developing lasting feelings of body dissatisfaction. 🙅‍♀️⁣ ⁣ Modelling a positive attitude about our own size and shape can be challenging, but it is so important! 💡⁣ ⁣ 👉👉Follow me for tips on building a body positive home environment for your family👈👈⁣ ⁣ #kindernutrition #mindfuleating #mindfulkids #sizediversity #healthateverysize #ukmums #ukkids #weightinclusive #bodypositivity #bodypositiveparenting #mindfulparenting #parenting #familytime #qualitytime #family #parenting #honestlypatents #kindness #familyfirst

HOW DO WE STOP HATING A PART OF OUR BODY? Do you want to know one thing I used to hate about myself? Something that used to embarrass me in pictures and was all I could see in a photo? ? My teeth. They are big, bold and not subtle. People commented online about them and used them as ammo for bullying when younger. But now I look at my wee boy and see the very same teeth growing into his face - big bold nashers!!! 🦷 👉🏽👉🏽So how do we move from hating a body part to liking and then maybe LOVING it? 💓 1. Watch your words and thoughts about it. If you’re constantly referring to you ‘fat horrible belly’ then of course you hate it! If your constantly pointi our your ‘multiple ugly double chins’ of course that will be all you see in photos. 2. Know you are MORE than you body. Our culture has kinda brained washed us women into thinking the majority of our value and worth is in our physical bodies and how we look. It’s not. I am MORE than my body, my teeth, my stretch marks, my historic incontinence, my waist size or weight. 3. What can you DO about it? Some things we have to accept as they are but everything else is up for grabs! You’re more POWERFUL than you realise. So for me I accepted my teeth as they were...then I worked with a holistic dentist to improve them and bring more alignment and health to my mouth 👄 It also happened to make them look better and I find this often is the case. When we focus on HEALING our bodies - we discover better looking teeth/our ideal weight/ better energy/ glower skin/ improved fertility etc. BOOM. We get what we want NOT from harsh criticism and hate but from accepting and loving ourselves into greater health💥 - - #nutrition #functionalmedicine #healthcoach #paleo #healthy #gaps #realfood #sugarfree #scotland #antidiet #nutritionist #intuitiveeating #holisticnutritionist #nutritionaltherapy #healthcoach #realfood #bodylove #functionalmedicine #healthateverysize #paleo #glutenfree #dairyfree #sugarfree #realfood #paleo #vegan #glutenfree #dairyfree #sugarfree #realfood #recipe

Food is diverse, complex and emotion evoking. It is more than nutrients. It can’t possibly be segmented so simplistically into ‘good’ and ‘bad’. Lifting food rules and labels won't happen overnight- it's a big part of the culture we live in. But at your next meal, try focussing on the enjoyment, flexibility and satisfaction food brings rather than the nutrients within the food itself. It's a nice place to start.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #haes #healthateverysize #sizediversity #healthcare #healthnotdiets #riotsnotdiets #antidiet #weightneutral #nondietapproaches #bodyrespect #bodykindess #bodyposi #evidence #selfcompassion #weightstigma #mindful #intuitiveeating #nondiet #nutrition #nutritionist #dietitian #mindfulness #wellnessinreallife #selfcare #selflove #mindfuleating #morethannutrients #melbourne #workshops #gratitude

Happy Place 💟 Teaching is definitely one of my favourite things about my job! I’m a class or 1-1 I LOVE it! I love watching people leave with a grin on their faces or having achieved something they didn’t think they could. I love the fact that, aside from a partner/housemate/parent, I’m the one person who gets 1-1 time, I love the relationships I have with clients and people who come to my classes. I love that I get to share the bits of exercise that I find so beneficial and special! I love my job. I feel very lucky to be doing something I love and to be in the position to be able to build a business from scratch. (I also love that I get paid for cardio!) Thank you @ariellesays for opening your heart in this article that talks about how unhealthy weight loss can be. I was a follower when Arielle lost the weight and I truly believed being fat was the worst thing I could be. I lost nearly 3 stone, then got ill with early stage sepsis and my perspective changed. I remember after surgery weighing myself and finding I’d just gone over my 3 stone loss and I was so pleased. It was that moment that shocked me into reality, I’d had life saving surgery for infection and blood poisoning and here I was celebrating that it had helped me hit my 3 stone loss. I ditched calorie counting and the scales. I focussed on my health and recovering from surgery and I focussed on my mental health for the first time in a long time. Two years later and I’m over 2 stone heavier but I am free from grasps of disordered eating. It is accounts like @ariellesays that help me to stay on this track and not slip back. Thank you Arielle 💜 #intuitiveeating #ditchthescales #haes #healthateverysize #disorderedeating

There is no instruction manual, which in itself can be terrifying, but it means that your recovery journey can, and probably will, be different to somebody else’s. Posted @withrepost@emilydongvillo.rd Remember “The Biggest Loser”? You know, the TV show where people were essentially working out 24/7 and eating three lettuce leaves and a protein shake? Everyone loses a bunch of weight cause DUH (their bodies are eating themselves in order to stay alive). Well, a group of scientists wrangled up a group of past “Biggest Loser” participants to see what happened to their weight, body fat, and metabolism after the after pic was snapped. Turns out, things weren’t so great. Six years after that initial weight loss, weight and body fat had climbed back up to the starting point. Buuuuuuuuut, their metabolism had taken a huge shit. The average participant’s new metabolism was about 500 calories LESS THAN what would be expected for their (regained) weight. In other words, metabolism is like a hair tie. You can stretch it out and it snaps back- initially. But, if you keep stretching it out, eventually it doesn’t snap back as well and does a shit job of holding your hair back. Diet side effects make diarrhea not seem so bad. #rd #haes #intuitiveeating #privatepractice #registereddietitian #antidiet #fuckdietculture #antidietrd #nondietrd #realdietitian #health #healthateverysize #riotsnotdiets #foodneutrality #justeatit #nondietapproach #intuitivemovement #sideeffectsofdiets #slowedmetabolism #dietsdontwork #ditchdietculture

Tonight I have been feeling really tempted to take back control and find a way out of the discomfort I feel in my own skin. • I'm full from overeating, I have been eating way too much because I feel sick and full, but I know that when I get fearful and try to take the control back, it only fuels my bodies reaction to binge more. • The old me said I will start tomorrow a new diet, a new way to control my binge eating, etc. • The new me is saying this fullness shall pass. Tomorrow I will find a way to love myself more! I will nourish my body in the morning even if I overrate the night before. I will not put my hope in diets because I know they are the reason I struggle with binge eating to begin with. • No matter how crappy I feel, I will not give up on recovery! I will not go back! I am beautiful and worthy of love at every size! I will eat well and move my body because I love and respect and nourish it. • • • • • • #healthandwellnessjourney #eatingdisorderrecovery #bingeeatingdisoder #bingeeatinghelp #iweigh #bodyacceptance #bodydysmorphia #bodyimage #edwarrior #edrecovery #intuitiveeating #uncomfortable #antidietculture #antidiet #dietculture #ditchthediet #eatingdisordersupport #haes #nomorediets #healthateverysize #worthyoflove #fatphobia #bodyacceptance #acceptingmyself #everysize #allfoods #fearfoods #beatthebinge #brainoverbinge #dietsdontwork #selfcarejourney

Posted @withrepost@drjanellelenhoff . . It seems commonplace these days for folx to believe that HOW we look will allow us to live the life we want . . Read that again. Isn’t it bizarre? We think that losing weight or obtaining a certain body composition WILL HELP US LIVE FULLY . . Focusing on weight and physical aesthetics will undoubtably shrink your life. It will limit experiences, flexibility, adventures, spontaneity, social relationships, mental energy, physical energy, and much more . . . Rather than chasing the elusive carrot of happiness and fulfillment through your body, SEEK WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY AND FULFILLS YOU IN YOUR LIFE . . . You want to go on that trip? Go! Your body will be what gets you there and enables you to experience all the things . . . You want to go on that date? Go! You don’t have to ‘look’ a certain way even though your mind and the messages you’ve internalized have told you that you do . . . You want to go try that new restaurant? Go! You can enjoy pleasurable food experiences in the body you are in regardless of its size . . . Do the social things you want to do. Take the risks you want to take. Accomplish the (non weight related) goals you have for yourself. Be accepting of yourself for the unique, one of kind human who you are irrespective of your body shape and size . . . It’s through living authentically and meaningfully that we TRULY find the peace and fulfillment we’re seeking through shrinking and sculpting our bodies. You ain't foolin nobody but yourself, sweet stuff. The notion that bearing our hunger gives us strength is literally an oxymoron. Cleansing is just another form of starvation, restriction and disordered eating. "But cleansing helps me reset and retrain myself." Ok. FOR NOW. but henny, doin 30 days to fit is NOT sustainable and you punishing your body doesn't reset shit. All it does is create obsession and preoccupation with food. Long story short, you DO NOT NEED TO STARVE YOURSELF TO FIT INTO THAT DRESS. Ameya here @pallavi108 is clearly the optimist of us, heh, but even she can sometimes be hit by the constant flood of negativity and rejection that the world throws at fat people. This is something I have also often felt, where I just want to stop trying to persuade people and the world to be kind to my body, to be kind to other bodies and just stop being so mean. And I don't mean active, direct rejection, though there's plenty of that. : Repost from @kristinabruce_coach “It was almost a full year from when I first came across Intuitive Eating, to when I became open and willing to try this new approach to relating to food and my body. ⁣ ⁣ I was scared. Like really scared. Because I knew that if I started Intuitive Eating I would no longer be micro-managing my food intake and would therefore gain weight. I needed to feel ready for what was going to be an emotional rollercoaster ride. ⁣ ⁣ The IE seed had been planted in those early days, but it needed favourable conditions in order to grow. For me those conditions ended up being a flower bed rich with the love and support of my partner, a regular watering of the knowledge from Health at Every Size, HAES-aligned RDs, and fat acceptance activists; and the light from working with a coach who had been through what I was going through. ⁣ ⁣ So if you are someone new to the idea of body acceptance or Intuitive Eating but just don’t feel ready to make the leap - give it some time. I have some resources listed below that may help. ⁣ ⁣ And if you’re someone who is introducing the idea of body acceptance to someone else but they don’t seem (or want) to “get it”, it’s ok. You never know if one day when the conditions are right, that seed that’s been planted will begin to sprout. ⁣ ⁣ 📙 For additional information and resources on a weight-inclusive approach to health and wellness, download my free Body Acceptance Jump Start Guide by clicking the link in my bio. ⁣ ⁣ 👩‍🦰 And if you’re ready to build a kinder, more accepting, diet-free relationship with your body, I offer an 8-week one-on-one coaching program. Click the link in my bio then “Body Acceptance Coaching” for more information.” ⁣ #weightlosswalkout #bodyacceptance #haes #healthateverysize #bodylove #intutiveeating #bodytrust #disorderedeating #honoryourbody #donewithdiets #ditchthescale #bodyacceptancecoach #fatacceptance #weightstigmahurtsusall #bodiposi #bodypositive #bodypeace #banthebmi #weightbias #healthisnotanumber #weightstigma #bodytrust #bodyrespect #positivebodyimage #ferventlydriven

Because of comparison to our younger self and/or comparison to the “perfect” images we are constantly exposed to on a daily basis we tend to engage in very negative self talk and we are usually unaware of this spew of criticism. ⁣ ⁣ So the first step is to become aware of the negativity you are feeding ‘yourself’. ⁣ ⁣ Next, be compassionate. How? ⁣ Ask yourself if my daughter were to come to me saying these things about herself, what would you tell her? Now direct that to you. ⁣ ⁣ What is one thing you would say to your daughter if she asked you whether or not she was pretty? ⁣

Wearing some of my winter clothes for the first time this season has me surprised with how my clothes are fitting. I feel like I’ve already posted about this but it is truly surprising. Weight is about the same in all these photos. The scale is not the best indicator of health or happiness. How you feel is the best indication of health. If you try each day to do what makes your body and mind feel it’s best, it will add up to a healthy and happy life. Who tf cares what a number says. For the longest time I was searching for a label 🏷️ ~ Something to "be". A box to fit into. "I am plant-based, lactose-free, vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian {fill in the blank}". A WORD to explain why I choose to eat the way I do. But labels are disempowering, & now I have finally found the one label that fits perfectly - I eat 💫 whatever feels good to me. ~ For the past 10 years I haven't eaten red meat, because I don't like the way it makes me feel. I'm lactose-intolerant, so I avoid dairy. I've been vegetarian on-and-off over the years, which started as a way to lose weight & feel healthier, but became a lifestyle that I love. I was vegan for 14 months, but 14 months in, I found my body craaaving eggs & fish, for days in a row. So I started eating fish & eggs again. At first the thought of pulling off the "vegan" label I'd been wearing felt like a betrayal of sorts. But I also knew I had to listen to my body & honour what it was asking me for. And now I can't go a day without fish or eggs! ~ Bottom line: 1 - You don't need any label or word to define you. You only need to be you. 2 - Experiment & have fun with food! And always honour your body's needs & cravings. Cravings are there for a reason - to protect you & correct an imbalance. 3 - Don't be afraid to walk away from a label that you've carried/been associated with - it's ok to change your mind & start afresh. The only person you're letting down is yourself. 4 - What you eat might changed as your needs or mindset changes, it's not only ok, it's natural. 5 - You don't need to justify or explain yourself to anyone if they ask why you do/don't eat something, you can simply reply "I eat what makes me feel good". ~ Do you agree? ~ #holisticnutrition #healthyeating #healthyfood #healthylife #healthyliving #eatingpsychology #eatingpsychologycoach #instafood #realfood #healthyfoodshare #mindfuleating #simplehealthyfood #nourishnotpunish #inspirehealthy #healthcoach #nutritioncoach #healthymindset #foodfreedom #intuitiveeating #allfoodsfit #haes #healthateverysize #bodypositivity #allfoodsfit #healthpodcast #selfcare #iin #integrativenutritionhealthcoach #selflove

It’s not the product, diet, exercise program or routine.... it’s her genes! How many times have you caught yourself comparing your appearance to someone else’s? “Maybe if I do the same workout as her, or maybe if I eat like her, or if I dress like her or change my skincare routine... then I’ll look like her., I’ll be happy like her” Welp she was born with it and so were you. You don’t need to buy that product or change your routine to be more worthy... because you have so much to offer. We are all born with something to offer this world...and yet we focus on the things that we can’t change. We focus on the things that do not display our worth. #recoveryloveandcare

Ever said, “I feel fat”? Same. Here’s the thing, fat is not an emotion. Next time you say, “I feel fat” in your head or out loud, try to identify what emotion you are actually feeling. I know. Feels are icky. But working on feels makes rejecting the diet mentality a lot easier. Having trouble figuring out what you’re actually feeling? Hit up the Google box and search for “emotion wheel”. That should help you sort things out so you can better express what you’re feeling. #rd #haes #intuitiveeating #privatepractice #registereddietitian #antidiet #fuckdietculture #antidietrd #nondietrd #realdietitian #health #healthateverysize #riotsnotdiets #foodneutrality #justeatit #nondietapproach #intuitivemovement #fatisnotafeeling #feelyourfeels #emotionwheel

Scientifically proven benefits of moving our bodies consistently: • Increased energy • Improved mood • Increased self-confidence • Better sleep • Improved social relationships • Higher productivity levels • Strengthened heart • Improved lung function • Reduced coronary heart disease & heart attack risks • Stress relief • Improved mental health • Reduced anxiety & depression 🌿 Notice what is NOT scientifically proven: • Sustained weight loss • Sustained weight gain (for “bulking”) • Losing fat in desired areas 🌿 It’s also important to note that while we can strengthen certain muscles, we cannot spot-diminish or spot-add to our bodies where we would like fat to leave or muscle to add. Our bodies naturally lose fat and gain muscle where they need it most. 🌿 Fitness “gurus” and fanatics will tell you otherwise and convince you that you can manipulate your body to look a certain way. The truth is, for the most part, the majority of humans simply cannot! 🌿 So why do I move? I move for all the amazing benefits mentioned above. And I reject moving for reasons that diet culture wants. Why do you move? 🌿 #intuitivemovement #dietculture #mindfulmovement #intuitiveeating #radicalselflove #bodyrespect #bodyacceptance #bodyneutrality #ispydietculture #antidiet #haes #healthateverysize #edrecovery #anorexiarecovery #bulimiarecovery #lovetheskinyourein #allbodiesmatter #youaremorethanabody #anxiety #depression #ocd #bipolar #recoveringperfectionist #personaltrainer #personaltraining #athletictrainer #athletictraining #healthconsulting #healthcoaching #healing

This is a powerful piece of the work!! Inner critic healing, and letting go of perfectionism are HUGE parts of embracing our bodies as they are. This can be a real sticky point, though 🌱 I like to imagine myself as a soft little bunny. Would I talk to a little bunny like this? Would I push a little bunny to change their cute bunny body? No! 🌱 When we remove dieting behaviors, there can be a wave of fear and anxiety. How to measure yourself as “good enough” now? How to label days as good or bad now? The openness can be scary! 🌱 This is a great opening for healing and for relearning. This can be an excellent time to learn a whole new way of talking to yourself and valuing yourself • • • • • • #haes #healthateverysize #intuitiveeating #benourished #everybodyisagoodbody💐 #therapy #feministtherapist #eatingdisorderrecovery #selfworth #bodypositive #fatliberation #fatacceptance

Do you dream of peaceful family meals? . When I asked you all if you have meals as a family, many of you said you do! 🎉 But you also admitted that it's sometimes hard getting them to happen. . So what can you do? Lower the pressure- on you and your family. . Family Meals don't need to be daily, it can be any meal (hands up for family breakfasts 🙌), and they don't have to be fancy- takeout makes for a great option! . Many of the families I've worked with admit to enjoying meals a lot better when there's less pressure to get everyone to eat, and when the focus is less on the food and more on enjoying each other's company. . Lose the fear and confusion of feeding your kids, and feel empowered to raise healthy adolescents by scheduling a free discover call *linked in bio* . #familymeals #feedingteens

@tanyamark

Does that sound radical and maybe even unfathomable? The statement comes from registered dietitian Christina Frangione, who suggests we all can say “no weigh” to measuring your health with diet culture’s ruler: the scale. While we may believe health is manipulating our bodies to an “ideal” weight and maintain that weight throughout our lifetimes, that belief is false. In fact, it’s making many of us less healthy. Created by the $72 billion dollar diet industry, healthy-as-thin has infiltrated the nutrition and fitness industries, duping far too many of us into a lifetime filled with food preoccupation, exercise obsession and body dissatisfaction. Does that sound healthy? ‘Ideal’ weight is a fallacy As a culture we are obsessed with the number on the scale and the belief that we have an “ideal” weight. You know, that number — the number you weighed when you were 22, pre-baby, on the ski racing team, when you were restricting gluten, dairy, sugar on your 21-day detox, after your fitness contest. Or maybe that number is simply one you’ve been told you should attain but have never weighed. We get that one number stuck in our heads and believe we can’t like our bodies or be happy and healthy until the scale sings it. Whatever pops up on the scale sparks joy or utter despair, all in a matter of seconds. Again, that’s not healthy. As a @bodyimagemovement and @redefining_wellness ambassador, I must remind you that weight doesn’t necessarily indicate your best health because bodies are born different sizes and shapes. Some bodies are naturally small, and others are naturally big. Small bodies may be healthy or unhealthy. Big bodies may be healthy or unhealthy. Every body is different. It’s understandable that we focus on scale weight, as that’s all we’ve ever been taught: Lose weight, get healthier. It’s been at least a week since I’ve gone to the gym or have done any sort of workout. I walk everyday but it’s different when you set up time to do a physical activity you enjoy. That activity for me is running but the joy of it had left me for a brief time. I’m not sure why exactly. I think I just was worried I wouldn’t be at the same level and pace that I used to be. Yet I recently realized that I don’t actually have to quantify my runs. I can hop on the treadmill or go outside and just run. It doesn’t matter how long or how fast or what my Fitbit measures. All that matters is the movement of my body. I had been dreading going back to the gym but my body craved movement as did my mind. I decided to go for 15 minutes and see how I felt. I promised myself I wouldn’t use any app to log my run and therefore log my pace and runtime. It was extremely liberating. I ended up running about 36 minutes before my body decided it needed a break. I say all this so I can remember this feeling. So I remember how GOOD I feel after a run, whether it’s 5 min, 10 min, an hour, whatever. Body and mind both needed this 🙌🏼

The rice in this from AUGUST 😳 Let’s talk about food waste - did you know that all of the food wasted every year in the world is enough to take care of the 821 million people who suffer from hunger worldwide? I didn’t start paying attention to our own food waste until we starting budgeting. Matt and I are on a strict budget so that means I can’t just buy food without thinking about it. Before I go to the grocery store I take inventory of our fridge, freezer and pantry to see what we already have. I FREEZE EVERYTHING instead of throwing leftovers away. Like this rice, it’s from our niece’s graduation party in August. I’m wasting less food than ever before. Obviously, the food I’m no longer wasting is not going to one of the 1 in 6 children in America who are food insecure but it does make me happy knowing that I’m not throwing away food bc I was too selfish to think about what we were consuming while others are starving. Also, my family’s grocery budget survives off of this tactic 🙌🏻 Just some food for thought... 💭 . . #foodwaste #intuitveeating #joyfulmovement #budgetfriendly #healthyeating #dieteticintern #fitness #bodyconfidence #sustainability #mentalhealth #healthateverysize

I was so mad I unfriended her from my social media. She is supposedly an influencer for an industry. I had believed we shared some common values, but the moment she mentioned about losing weight by using certain diet products, and emphasized “you’re only worthy when you’re skinny”, my respect toward her ended immediately. I support weight loss if that’s needed to, say, keep up with one’s kids, medical reasons, or some reasons to give more joy and freedom to their happiness and growth within. Her diet, which required people to buy expensive products and be on a not-at-all-sustainable-diet, made me sick. What the f*ck is she doing to her people, to those who believe in her, who admire her? She is encouraging them to fail another diet, gain weight, and lower self-worth YET AGAIN! I thought about reaching out to her. I thought about telling her tribe to stop listening to her advice. I wanted to scream. But, I just walked away from the toxic relationship. This is what I did as a part of my recovery from severe emotional eating and diets hell. In this world, there's only so much we can control. There are so many toxic environments around us that we CHOOSE to listen, CHOOSE to follow. One thing I know for sure is that I can’t force people to change, but I can choose my choices and behaviors, and that is very powerful. When you know what to choose and what to believe, you’ll start taking the wheel of your life. What do you choose to listen when it comes to losing weight and/or stop eating emotionally? What do you need to stop listening? Comment below or DM me - I’d love to know about YOU! If you like what I’ve been sharing, join my FB group “Reframe Your Eating Story”🤗. You’ll feel welcomed, accepted and empowered by stories from other❤️ Much love, Kanna

95% of diets fail, of those that suceed 98% will develop an eating disorder. The weight loss and diet control industry is a $72 billion dollar industry. Women and Men are getting their stomaches stapled, jaws sewn shut, diet pills, injections, prescription diet after diet, and why is this? Diet Culture. Diet Culture convinces us daily that we are wrong if we don't look like the 5% of women idolised by American culture, if we aren't thin enough, don't have the right kind of curves, if we are "too" skinny or "too" fat. Today the average sized women is a size 16US, but why does it even matter? Our bodies are made to be different. They are made to be special, my body is big, my sister's is small does that mean that we no longer deserve the respect of health at every size? Why is health even a prerequisite for human respect?? It's time to dispell diet culture and give up the hate, embrace yourself. #fckoffdietculture #dietculture #bingeeating #bingeeatingrecovery #binge #eatingdisorderrecovery #plussize #plussizemodels #plussizebeauties #healthateverysize #diet #selfcare #selflove #selfie #plussizemodel #fat #nofilter #nodiet #recovery

The reasons we chose to eat are far more than just “listen to your body.” Intuitive eating is at its core about making decisions based off cravings, body signals, yet also rational thought and real life decisions. Ultimately intuitive eating is truly far more than just listening to your body. It’s making body AND mind decisions to make food choices. It’s about listening to cravings, planning and prepping food when needed, honoring hunger but also eating before you get hungry because you won’t have the opportunity to eat later. It’s all of this and so much more. I’m curious: should I do a podcast episode on this? What questions do you have about this? #wellnesswithoutobsession #intuitiveeating

@thebodylovesociety

I bet you were wondering what kind of “healthy” food was on the plate!! - were you??? . Or did your brain wonder if it was a decadent dessert or a plate of pasta?? . The thing about UnDieting is that you can truly feel good with a plate of pizza or a plate of cake - or a plate of salad or a plate of French fries or a plate of fruit or a mixture - it can be whatever you want it to be because you tune into your body and ask- what will feel good right now? . This is how UnDieters think - they know all food is allowed and can have what they want AND they ask their bodies how they feel - and that’s where the choice happens of what they want to eat. . There is an ebb and flow according to how their bodies feel - so one day this plate may be a burger and fries and one day this plate may be salmon and roasted veggies 🤷🏻‍♀️ - AND both plates allow them to feel good and satisfied because that’s what their body asked them for and they listened - before they chose, during their meal, and after they finished. It’s an intuitive dance between you and your body! 💃🏻 . This is wellness without the obsession! . Save your spot for our free UnDiet masterclass coming up tomorrow! My stomach is something eating disorders loves to hate. It’s never perfectly flat or cut or lean. It’s never what it ‘should be be. I came home from class today, missing the gym because I got hyped writing a post for a blog, feeling ‘bleh’ about my body. I changed into pajamas and instantly regretted looking in the mirror. Is my stomach that big? Have I gained that much weight? Those were some of my first thoughts. My second thought (which, in my opinion are more important) was that my body isn’t here to be judged my myself or anyone else. Then I sat down. Took a vulnerable picture to mark this moment as a W for my recovery and went on with my night. The eating disorder will always find something to pick at me for but I’ll always find a way to beat it. #haes #eatingdisorderawareness #eatingdisorderrecovery #healthateverysize #bodypositive #bodypositivity #dietculturedropout #dietculturesucks #ditchthediet #losehatenotweight #perfectlyimperfect #selflove #selfkindness #healthyisthenewskinny #mentalhealth

Exercise can be as easy as giving yourself a juicy hug. Sometimes the idea of exercise gets in the way of just doing the thing our body is craving, which is why I call what I do "movement." It doesn't need to be perfect or take a long time. Simple stretches or five minutes of dancing makes a big difference. 🌟 Join us for @fatkiddanceparty aerobics! Did you know that your brain NEEDS glucose? Carbohydrates are the main fuel source for the brain. ⠀ ⠀ Oftentimes, we forget that feeling tired or unmotivated can be a manifestation of hunger. But it can be, along with feeling nauseous, irritated, experiencing headaches, or even the fixation on food. If you can't stop thinking about food, chances are you’re wasting precious brainpower because you're hungry. ⠀ ⠀ We're just talking about the brain here. So obviously, your BODY needs even more than this to function optimally and to thrive. To support proper functioning of bodily systems, like cognitive function, temperature regulation, menstruation, breaking down and rebuilding bone, having a responsive immune system, we need to be eating enough. Oftentimes, we need to be eating MORE than we think we do. ⠀ ⠀ Being in an energy deficit state affects your body in various ways. Many of the above systems are compromised in one way or another, all of which impacts you functioning optimally and thriving in the world. ⠀ ⠀ Carbohydrates are not "out to get us." Instead, they are necessary. ⠀ ⠀ Plus, carbohydrates are like the tastiest food group! Lately, we've been into eggo waffles with pomegranate seeds, peanut butter, banana, greek yogurt and maple syrup. Camryn asks for "wawwles pb" meaning "waffles with peanut butter" and mamma is on board this train too. ⠀ ⠀ What carbohydrates have you been into lately?⠀ ⠀

Breakfast with an old favorite — @siggisdairy this morning. Even though I wake up early, I’m not someone who can pop out of bed and out the door. I really love my 1-1.5 hours in the morning to get ready, pray, drink some coffee and eat breakfast. It’s my time to get “set” and prepare myself for the day ahead. On days when I don’t make time for this, I feel more anxious, rushed and flustered throughout the morning, which leaves me tired and down in the afternoon. Taking that time for myself in the morning makes all the difference 🌟 what’s one thing you do to set your day on the right track?

I had a great time sharing some of my favorite body image interventions with the awesome ladies at @balancehealthhealing today! . . . This intervention what I call a “wholeness pie”. Notice the blank space? I reserve that space for someone’s (sometimes hypothetical) weight. The idea is that your weight is just one small piece of who you are. You can live a happy and fulfilled life no matter what you weigh. #bodypositive #bodyimage #positivebodyimage #eatingdisorderrecovery #therapy #reflectwholenesstherapy
