#motivationmonday It feels great being able to open up my closet and put on clothes, I know that sounds weird but one thing I was struggling with was not feeling comfortable or confident in any of my clothes. The holidays are here and I truly hope you remember YOU DON’T OWE ANYONE AN EXPLANATION of what you eat, what you’re tracking, and how many #smartpoints all the delicious food is. Trust me, you CAN and WILL get people asking you, “How many points is that?” , “Can you eat that?” Or even worse , you’ll get COMMENTS. “Oh ___ can’t eat that, it’s too much points.” PSA for EVERYONE 🗣: EVERY FOOD is POINT FRIENDLY, it’s up to you what points you want to be friends with. Do what you have to do FOR YOUR journey. Like me, if it means bringing your scale and measuring cups to the party- so be it! I also call before hand and ask what will be served. I do what I have to do in order for me to meet MY goals. I also enjoy myself. If that means indulging for ONE day, that’s okay! It’s ONE day. Dinner tonight was spaghetti squash that I tossed with olive oil, shrimp, tomato, mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion. Seasoned with pepper flakes, salt and pepper, and so delicious! I haven’t had spaghetti squash in so long, so this really hit the spot! : : : Today was leg day, and I started feeling a bit dizzy pretty early in my workout, so had to go lighter on the weight which sucked a bit, but I’m at the point where I know that it’s better to lighten up- or stop- instead of hurting my body. Not every day has to be hundred pound squats and deadlifts. Muscle can be built from lighter weights and higher reps too! Already planning to be BETTER! It's still December & technically it's not even Winter. I want to lead by example for the people that I inspire and not only put my health first, but keep it there. It's a physical challenge to be a Chef & cook everyday, but this process is more about longevity, mentality, & balance. It's not a race or a challenge, it's a change! We each have our perspective on what "good health" looks like, but ultimately it starts from within. The cells, the blood, lungs, kidneys, colon, heart, and all the other parts of the body that helps it function properly. One of my goals for the new year is to increase my healthy eating habits by 10% which takes away from my unhealthy eating habits, putting it at a 70/30 ratio. Another one is getting in the best shape of my life, push harder than before (as if I had an event to attend or an outfit to get in). The last thing I want to do is quit on myself or stop when I get comfortable...or let my work get in the way of finding time to execute a session. For dinner tonight, I made pasta primavera for Pasta Monday. It all started with onions and garlic in a pan with filtered water. I added broccoli, carrots, and zucchini. While everythibg coooked down, I boiled brown rice spaghetti.To the pan, I added chickpeas, salt, pepper, cumin, oregano, cardamom, and tomato paste. After draining the pasta, I poured the sauce on top. It was savory, filling, and full of flavor. For dessert, i made mango nice cream. I used frozen mangos and frozen bananas, and put them through my new @Yonanas. I topped it with coconut flakes, chia seeds, and sliced banana. This was a perfect Monday meal. The Petrina who wrote these words in December 2010 felt so lost when it came to how to eat, exercise, and live well. I made some progress from 2013-2016 then things went downhill fast as I let go of healthy habits while navigating some major life transitions. I want to tell my past self that she's gotten stronger, lighter on her feet and much more energetic, just as she dreamed of once upon a time. I want to let her know that she's committed to a life of exercise and a better diet. It took all of 9 years, maybe even longer for all the years I've battled with these issues. But in this season of hope, I'm reminded again that nothing is impossible, with the right kind of knowledge, support, habit forming, and focus. Trying something new before bed. I have read and heard a lot about golden milk before bed. Tonight is the first time I am trying it.
