✣ ALCOHOL AND YOUR HORMONES ✣ . I will be the LAST person to tell you it’s all or nothing. A glass (or two) of wine on a Friday night with a good dinner and your honey is SOUL food. . But I am about empowered decisions. . When you are actively pursuing hormonal health and on your hormonal healing journey, regular alcohol consumption will hold you back. . Why? . 🖤BLOOD SUGAR🖤 Insulin is a powerful hormone. Even though it’s a hunger hormone, it can have a huge impact on inflammation, sex hormones and inflammation. This is why I always drink with food and choose red wine over beer or liquor. . 🖤DEHYDRATION🖤 Processing foods high in sugar can utilize water and MINERALS like magnesium, sodium and potassium. Make sure to use the one for one rule. Drink one glass of water for every glass of alcohol. . 🖤LIVER HEALTH🖤 Alcohol is a heavy toxin for the liver. Depending on how well your detox pathways are functioning, will depend how much of an impact alcohol has on you. While you’re drinking, your body prioritizes detoxing alcohol over old hormones. This is why regular consumption of alcohol messes with your hormones. . 🖤SLEEP🖤 Alcohol might make you sleepy, but it doesn’t help you sleep, it makes you sleep WORSE. This is why I recommend eating a nutrient dense meal with your drink and not drinking right before bed. If you want to prevent yourself from waking in the middle of night, take a Tbsp. of coconut oil or butter before bed to balance blood sugar. . 🖤PESTICIDES & SULFITES🖤 Grapes are heavily sprayed in pesticides. I try to drink organic wine whenever possible (but don’t stress when I can’t) and look for no added sulfites. . I choose red wine because of its antioxidant and polyphenol content (has actual health benefit). My fave brands are Frey and Pacific Redwood 😉 . Do I drink? Yep, but I don’t make it a habit. 2-3x a month, with quality red wine, a good dinner (never drink without food) and good company. . We CAN’T lean on alcohol for dealing with stress. If we need a drink to take the edge off, something in our life isn’t working for our body. . A good laugh with a good buzz is the cherry on top of a good life, not the key to a good life 🖤

This was me, six years ago today in WDW and right before I reached my heaviest at 230lbs. I was very unhappy with myself, ate all of the wrong things, worked night shift and didn’t sleep. Simply, I just didn’t take care of myself. - - - Today I surround myself with positive, like minded people and eat healthy. Every now and then I do splurge, like tonight, pho and Thai tea with a doc from work. He and I discuss the importance of healthy eating and lifestyles. I’m trying to convince him to be a kombucha lover just like me :). Every time I get @mountnitaneekombucha I let him try the new flavors. Who am I? Today, my stomach felt weird, but I still chose wisely. Tonight, my husband wanted pizza. So I ate a plate of salad, then enjoyed a slice of pizza, and I was satisfied. It didn't spiral into multiple slices. I didn't reward myself for my choices with ice cream or cookies (see stories for dessert). I didn't log all my previous calories to see if I was "allowed" to eat a slice, I ate it because I wanted it, stopped when I was satisfied, and don't feel a twinge of guilt about my day. It. Is. A. Liberating. Feeling. . If you struggle in your relationship with food, I hope one day you find this feeling too.💗

Happy Friday for happy tapas dinner tonight😋! . . 🍂Three minutes steamed and grilled sweetcorn with fennel, chilli and "Mirin" sauce. Inspired by the dish I had with my friends at @theprovidores last week, this is a vegan and almost non-oil dish, just using a hint of oil for frying some chilli for the sauce. . 🍂Ultimate wholefood, steamed Kabocha pumpkin purse. Just a hint of salt needed for seasoning. Mush the skin and the rest of pumpkins separately, and make into purses using clingfilm. I love these fantastic colours! . . 🍂Fermented potato, steam-fried and flavoured with "Mirin" and soy sauce. After watching a @tommybank's tv program, him cooking fermented potato, I made this dish for the first time. It was lovely, but I forgot how much salt I used for fermenting potatoes. As I cleanse this month, I choose to skip the coffee as it is pretty acidic and one of the goals of this program is to get my body to an alkaline state and eliminate acidic foods for a while. 😳 Believe it or not, it is totally doable. 👍🏼 The detox tea is absolutely lovely and if you add about half or more of an energy fix stick, (I prefer citrus), 🍊🍋 it is super tasty and gives me the morning pick me up I need. I also take the digestive plus first thing as well. It get’s my digestive system off to a healthy start. Once I started taking this regularly, I noticed less bloat and more consistent...eh hem....regularity🤫.

If you’ve ever been told “Diet has no connection to acne” you are NOT ALONE! It’s unbelievable that dermatologists still ignore the strong link between the gut-skin axis. Luckily the education & training has started to (slightly) shift, but more often than not the disease of acne is treated only in a “bandaid” way by controlling the symptom (pimples) with topical creams or antibiotics. They do not look at the body holistically nor get to the ROOT of the problem by actually finding exactly WHAT is CAUSING the breakouts to occur. Then on the other hand we have wellness experts who say “you are what you eat”.... it’s more like “you are what you digest”. Happpppy weekend all! Healthy take on the big brekky coming your way. This is what I tuck into if I’m feeling savoury. Remember breakfast means to ‘break the overnight fast’ so it’s basically the first meal of the day. Even if it turns out to be more of a brunch lunch thing which this could be as it’s so deliciously filling! Big breakfasts are the best, and there are so many different ways & combos. I always include a source of protein, healthy fat and something green. Say Hello Happy big brekky. 2 Eggs - I like poached but if fried or scrambled use coconut oil 🍳 Sauteed greens - spinach, kale, broccoli, zucchini, Brussel sprouts 🥦 with lots of salt and coconut oil. Sooo yummy! 1/3 of Avocado 🥑 Mushrooms - can do in a woestorshire I love @melrosehealth it’s a healthy delicious version of a traditionally unhealthy product! A tablespoon of sauerkraut And sometimes we squeeze in a cheeky chorizo 🙊 Plate it up and voile a nourishing and energizing Big Brekky to keep me going until when I’m next hungry (most likely dinner!). 🌰 ACTIVATE 🌰 . . . Whipping up another batch of activated nuts! This time I did pecans and peanuts 😋 They were long soaking yesterday, and slow drying over night. I have been experimenting with creating homemade peanut butter using the activated nut as they are easier to digest. But I can't seem to get the smooth consistency that I want, and I'm too scared that if I keep my food processor on for too long she will die on me 😂 Maybe when I can afford a super duper one, will I be able to create my oh so desired activated nut butters 🤗 . . . Have you got a great recommendation for a food processor?! . . .

I've been getting ready for dinner party season 🥂 I will be hosting my very first dinner party in my house, which means it will be the first time using the dining room 🙌🏼 (4 months after moving in 😅) . . . I've just randomly placed things in baskets under the console table for now, so I will probably rejig those before my first official dinner party in 10 days. I also have a couple of pictures I'm hoping to get up on the wall before then. . . . There are so many things you don't think about though when it's just you eating. Have I got enough place mats?! Should I use plates or bowls?! What glasses should I use? Should I have a centrepiece?! Buffet style food or plated food?! And the all important question what should I cook to show off my culinary genius?! 🤣🤣 No pressure! I think I'll rope mum in to help 😇 . . .

💓 Happy Tuesday Darlings 💓 . . . I have got so many things to do, and so many lists, that the gym is having to take a back seat once again. When I'm there I think about all the work I've got to do and when I'm working I'm thinking Ooo, it would be good to train today 😅 Do you have that conversation with yourself?! For the next few months I have got to give my work 100% but hopefully I can squeeze a few workouts in once I've got the majority of my to-do list under control! . . . 🌊 Happy Thursday 🌊 . . . Today is our last full day here on the island! So I'll be sure to soak up as much VITAMIN D as I can 😅 This summer has been amazing 🤗 🇬🇷 Been to Greece 3 times 🇸🇪 Sweden once 🇨🇾 One quick trip to Cyprus 🏡 Bought my own home 🏗 Started making good progress with the properties 💫 With exciting projects in the pipeline . . . I will be prioritising my training and fitness when I get back! For the past 16 months, I haven't been consistent with it at all. But I have finally joined my new local gym 🙌🏼 and will be making it a part of my daily routine again 💪🏼 As well as giving our businesses 110% 👊🏼 . . .
