#arte #art #historia #history #historiadelarte #arthistory #historyart #historyofart #arthistorian #instaart #instaarte #artlover #artlovers #amoralarte #loveart #artista #artist #dailyart #artwork #dailyartwork #artininstagram #followart #obradearte #barroco #baroque #rubens #pintura #painting #oilpainting #oiloncanvas

#Repost @19thcenturyart ・・・ Spencer Gore - Harold Gilman´s House at Letchworth (c. 1912) - British Embassy, Copenhagen, Denmark ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Painted by the British Post-Impressionist artist Spencer Frederick Gore (1878-1914). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "In 1904 he visited Sickert in Dieppe; this marked the beginning of his close acquaintance with recent French painting, and his enthusiasm helped to decide Sickert to return to Britain in 1905. For the rest of his short career Gore was part of Sickert's circle, becoming a founder member successively of the Allied Artists' Association in 1908, the Camden Town Group (of which he was first president) in 1911, and the London Group in 1913. His early work was Impressionist in style, but he was strongly influenced by Roger Fry's Post-Impressionist exhibitions and his later pictures show vivid use of flat, bright colour and boldly simplified forms. He died of pneumonia aged 35 and was much lamented by his many friends in the art world. Sickert said Gore was ‘probably the man I love and admire most of any I have known’, and his obituary in the Morning Post remarked that ‘his personal character was so exceptional as to give him a unique influence in the artistic affairs of London in the last dozen years’." Photos from Life Magazine showing Army equipment aboard the Battleship Nevada (BB-36) and Aircraft Carrier Saratoga (CV-3). During the Nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll, the United States Army was also curious to see how their equipment would handle the blasts. They had several vehicles embarked aboard Navy warships. USS Nevada is carrying a M-36 tank destroyer, specifically a B2 variant with an overhead enclosure over the turret. Several other tanks were also carried, all of them being placed around the aft turrets. Saratoga is carrying a M8 armoured car with a M-24 "Chaffee" light tank behind it and another M-36 tank destroyer to the rear. Want to see more naval history? Although Michelangelo considered himself to be a sculptor first and foremost, Pope Julius II was so taken by his work that he commissioned him to paint the ceiling of the Sistine chapel in 1508. The Creation of Adam is the most famous of this fresco cycle. In this scene, we see God depicted as an older, grey bearded man. He floats in the air, surrounded by angelic figures. God's hand is outstretched, reaching to touch Adam's finger. Adam lazily reaches forward towards God. His nude figure is highly muscular, a common theme of Michelangelo's work. . . . This painting represents the story from Genesis where God creates man in His own image. Michelangelo shows this by the mirroring the arms of the two figures. Their faces also mirror each other. Although God appears much older than Adam, they have similar features, including a square jaw and strong nose. Michelangelo uses these features to show that man was God's living image on Earth. . . . . #accessiblearthistory #arthistory #historyofart #arteducation #museums #instafineart #instamuseums #instaarthistory #artoftheday #masterpiece #culture #culturalheritage #workofart #arthistorymatters #arthistorystudent #sistinechapel #vatican #michelangelo #creationofadam

Michelangelo, The Entombment, c.1500-01, The National Gallery, London • in this work, the kneeling figure’s unfinished hand raises interesting thoughts. Whilst she seems to point at Christ being carried to his tomb behind her, she is detached from the scene and looking away from it. It has been speculated that she is a praying woman imagining the entombment with such vividness. She is a model for intense and penitent prayer to us, the viewer. • • • • #art #artist #artwork #arty #arthistory #beautiful #culture #italy #design #michelangelo #london #nationalgallery #rome #gallery #hand #handsofart #historyofart #hands #icon #inspo #masterpiece #museum #holy #painting #renaissance #christ #travel #travelphotography #colour #oil
