Hands down breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! I believe it’s because it’s usually the least rushed time of day for me and falls right after my morning meditation:). This morning I toasted the Japanese sweet potato bread I baked yesterday and topped it with almond butter and banana. So good and a nice change from our usual cassava flatbread! My daughter also loves the root vegetables hash browns we get from the Boise Coop. This is one of the few veggie she raves about! Check it out if you have little picky eaters at home:). I cook it up in the bacon grease and it’s savory! Fun fact - fat is necessary part of our diet. Adding fat to your meals slows down the absorption of the carbs which helps regulate your energy. Fat also allows for the proper digestion of proteins and absorption of vitamins A, D, E , and K (which are fat soluble). Last but not least, fats are the building blocks of every cell in your body - which is why it’s so important to eat good fats! Ok, it’s the 8th day of 12 Days of Health! #8 BE PREPARED This applies to so much in our lives, but especially our food choices. 🥗 If you’re going to a party and are concerned you won’t have healthy options, bring something! . If you’re going out to eat, check the menu beforehand. Never be afraid to ask for substitutions, or get creative with the veggie side dishes. . This doesn’t just apply to the holidays either. How many times have you come home starving with no food in the fridge and you eat popcorn or cheese and crackers for dinner? One of the best things you can do to ensure you’re getting lots of healthy food into your diet, is meal prep. Spend a few hours shopping, cleaning, chopping, and making a few things to have ready to go each week. My go-to’s are roasted veggies, quinoa, raw chopped veggies, a soup or chili, and a dressing. For my husband I make overnight oats for breakfast he can take with him. Then during the week I can create quick salads, bowls and meals just by combining ingredients and adding a few extra quick items as needed. Voila! ✨ Try It: Today, decide which meal of the day is hardest for you, breakfast, lunch or dinner? Then prep for at least 3 of those this week. Getting them out of the way now will make you so happy later! What do we think when we hear  vulnerability? Natural Ways to Improve Mental Focus . Brain Training that Works . One type of brain training in particular is proving to be effective at improving attention. It is called Dual N Back and it involves learning visual and auditory sequences and trying to recall increasingly complex sequences. Scientists at John Hopkins University found that this method is the most effective of the training methods most often used by scientists to improve memory and attention. .. JALAPEÑO GREEN SAUCE comin’ at ya! 🌶 .. We put this on everything. Eggs. Taco salad. Steak. Veggies. You name it. .. Plus, it’s full of healthy @caoliveranch EVOO! .. First, I put my peppers in a bowl of water (with a splash of @bragglivefoodproducts ACV) to clean them — wait about 5 min, then rinse and pat dry. Then cut off the tops and slice in half. I use one garlic clove per 3 peppers — peel. .. •place peppers and garlic on greased cookie sheet and broil for 10-15 min (until peppers are puffy and a little blackened) •remove and put in plastic bag to steam for about 5 min •once cool enough to handle, remove peppers and peel the skins •place peeled peppers and garlic in immersion blender container •add enough @caoliveranch EVOO to cover peppers/garlic >>BLEND •keep adding small amounts of EVOO in intervals until you reach desired consistency — we like ours creamy! (But not too thick) .. I was doing some reading for a series inside our education group and my mind was legit blown. • Y'all know that I am pretty passionate about toxic free living and even more passionate about sharing that with y'all. But ya wanna know why!? • This isn't a hobby or something I do for fun. I am passionate about it because it can radically change your life. • The toxic burden is a real thing. And our homes are freaking PLAGUED with toxins. You may be thinking no big deal. I love my Mrs. Meyers, and my Johnson and Johnson, and my Urban Decay makeup. • I did too. • Really I get you. • I also loved my bath and body works and legit had a candle and plug-in in every room. • But then I started researching. And I had doctors telling me my choices were MAKING MY BABIES SICK. And I was like nope. DONE. • Know who else I was making sick!? • Myself. • YEP! • In fact, "A study by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics reported that women expose themselves to over 100 individual chemicals each day through personal care products. I have worked as an immunologists for 7 years studying various cancers and designing immunotherapies for the treatment of pancreatic and ovarian cancers as well as other solid based tumors. Here is how cancer is initiated and what role your DIET plays in preventing pre-cancerous cells from forming cancer. Well cancer is initiated by damage to your DNA… You can think of damage to your DNA almost like something that’s sitting on top, attaching itself to your DNA, and if it’s not repaired this can potentially form a mutation. So every organ in your body is made up of cells and each of these cells have their own DNA and this DNA is made up of thousands of different genes. In order for your different organs to continue functioning, these cells have to make copies of themselves because cells have a very limited lifespan. So in order for them to make a copy of themselves, they have to copy all the DNA inside that cell and if there’s damage to the DNA. When the cell copies, the DNA it forms has a mutation. And once you form a mutation there’s no turning back and mutation is permanent. So it’s very very important to repair the damage to the DNA before it forms a mutation. So when we work with clients who have autoimmune diseases and chronic illness, we insure that they are getting every single tool their cells need to repair damaged DNA. Without those things, repair won’t happen. I already mentioned if you cannot repair damaged DNA this can potentially lead to cancer causing mutations. Once you get a mutation it’s permanent there’s no turning back it’s the point of no return. As we all know, food labels contain a large amount of information from a products sell-by date to an extensive list of nutrition information. ✅Last week I discussed how we need to be able to understand and interpret these labels in order to make healthy choices. 😁⠀ ⠀ The nutritional panel provides you with info on the nutritional content of the product.🔍The main things to look for on this panel are energy, carbohydrates, fiber, sugar, fats and sodium/salt.👀⠀ ⠀ Let me breakdown the nutritional panel for you👇🏼⠀ 1⃣ Energy — energy is measured in kilojoules. Kilojoules are the same thing as calories but in SA we measure energy using kilojoules (kJ). Don't get confused if you see kcal, this simply means calories. Take note that 1 calorie (kcal) = 4.18 kilojoules.⠀ 2⃣ Daily Value — the % Daily Value tells you the % of each nutrient in a serving of the recommended amount. As a guide you want to consume less of certain nutrients (such as saturated fat or sodium), so choose foods with a lower % DV. Preferably 5 percent or less.⠀ 3⃣ Fats — legally in South Africa a manufacturer can only claim ‘low-fat’ if the total fat content is less than 3 grams per 100 grams in solid food and less than 1,5 grams for liquids. Very few protein-rich foods meet this recommendation (for example 1 large boiled egg contains 7g fat)⠀ 4⃣ Dietary Fibre — the fibre content can be used as an excellent guideline to choose the best starchy foods. Starchy foods are high in fibre if the fibre content is ≥ 6g per 100g solid food(AOAC method) or ≥4.8 g per 100g solid food (Englyst method).⠀ 5️⃣ Sodium — It is recommended that you should limit your salt intake to a maximum of 2000 mg sodium per day that equals 5 g (1 teaspoon) of salt in total. Always exercise on Monday. This sets the psychological pattern for the rest of the week . A little tip I've learned ! Mondays & early mornings, HAH were never a thing for me ! Now I love them both ! Something about waking up early, no one else awake in the neighborhood, smashing your workout & starting your week on a good note ! . . ARE THERE HEAVY METALS IN YOUR PROTEIN POWDER? . A 2018 Study done by the Clean Label Project tested 134 protein powders and 52 brands for heavy metals, BPA, pesticides, and carcinogenic toxins. 70% of these powders had detectable levels of lead, 74% had detectable levels of cadmium ( a heavy metal) and 55% had detectable levels of BPA ( plastic). . One protein powder tested had over 25x the allowed limits of BPA in ONE serving. . . Products that were plant based tested WORSE then those that were not. . . If you are unaware, the most dangerous form of cadmium exposure is inhalation or ingestion.
