I’m reading a great book called atomic habits and it has some complete gems about how small, consistent changes everyday can lead to BIG improvements in the long run Having a bed time, getting sunshine daily, doing stress management techniques, moving your body and other habits are not sexy but over time small efforts in these areas can lead to big change if you are patient! Many of my clients get antsy and want results right away from incorporating better habits, but it takes time for your incremental efforts to add up And there really is no short cuts. My Wednesday #ootd. It’s only 5 days into summer and I’m already miserable. Any temperature above 80 is too high for me. I’m grateful that I have lots of pretty, pink sundresses at least! And I’m grateful that I have the strength and energy to go out and show off one of my sundresses today. After all the pain I was in yesterday I’m honestly surprised I’m up to doing anything. Yet I know God is keeping me moving. Yes, I am still in quite a bit of pain. Pretty much most of my body aches, especially my stomach, intestines, and legs. And I’m running on very little energy. Yet I always smile through the pain and don’t let it stop me from living my life. Today I’m praying that somehow I can get a way to stay hydrated for the summer despite my illnesses and pain and I’m praying that my Crohn’s doesn’t bother me as much today. Today my favorite quote is the Bible verse Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me.” I know that all my strength is from what God gives me. And that is what I’m most grateful for today. Still having strength despite being in pain. Helloooooooo I had a lovely dinner 😊 A butchers in town does yummy gf (and low FODMAP- probably by accident but I won’t complain 🤷🏻‍♀️) Chicken Satay Skewers in their chilled section and they only take like 10 mins in the air fryer to cook so suuuuuper handy for a quick dinner 🙌🏻 I had mine with the @oldelpaso gf wraps and some mixed leaves 🤤🥗🥙 450 cals 👍🏻

“Our bodies are not the enemy. The enemy is inside our bodies.” I heard this quote in a sermon this morning and it got me. The sermon was referring to the fact that as we age we see our bodies as failing us, a great enemy. This is also true of autoimmune disorders or any pain we experience. It’s easy to see the body/the person as the enemy, the thing stopping me from living the way I want. - - BUT, my body and my soul was created in the very image of God. My body and my soul reflect the heart of the king of the universe. The brokenness of my body serves as a reminder of brokenness in this world. This disease and this broken body make me look with anticipation to heaven and a heavenly body. A body that dances, eats, and runs without pain. A heart that isn’t selfish, spiteful, or insecure. - - I’m passionate about how diet and lifestyle influences our physical/mental health, but y’all, there is a much bigger picture. I love my body because one day it will be made new. It will be healed and whole. All physical and spiritual brokenness will be washed away. - - So today and everyday, I refuse to see my body as the enemy. I choose to be thankful that I can take my dogs on walks in God’s creation, I can drive a car, and I can care for others. I choose to see the very image of God reflected in my physical body. And when I forget, when I fail, I rely on strength that’s not my own. That’s when I remember that this body and this spirit will all be washed clean at heaven’s gates. Throwback to my fave dinner we had last week courtesy of @hellofreshuk - chicken stir fry! 😋 I've had a good few stir frys in my time but this was one of the best 👌 I just subbed in some gluten free soy sauce and voila, a delicious gluten and dairy free mid week dinner 👏 Cooking the rice with chicken stock powder is a genius idea which I'll be doing from on!

I'm completely "stuck on" my new water bottle from @talhydration . My urologist wants me to keep my fluid intake around 80 oz a day to prevent more dehydration related kidney stones. This beauty holds 40 oz (so easily measured as 2 fills a day) and it keeps liquid cold with ice for up to 24 hours. Not only gorgeous to look at, but wonderfully functional. Hi my little rays of sunshine!!! Here’s a little life update since I kind of went AWOL: I recently started dating this handsome dude, and let me tell ya, he’s wonderful. Dating can be scary for us #spoonies since we never know what the day will bring and most people don’t adjust to the unpredictability, but he just goes with it. But enough about Shay (for now, plenty more to come.) I’m STILL sick. Day after day I cough up more & more mucus, I’m still having 3 hours coughing fits, and to top it all off... my GI symptoms have came back full force. I’m holding very little down, after meal bathroom runs are becoming a thing again, and I overall just don’t feel well. After getting little help from the immunologist, aside from her telling me that I don’t have asthma or an immune deficiency disorder, I kind of gave up. But then I reminded myself, I can’t give up, only I can fight for my right to get an answer. So I just scheduled a pulmonologist appointment for July 12th and I have a gastro appointment later in July. I’m fighting for my right to be healthy. I’m fighting for my life back. Hi my little rays of sunshine!!! Here’s a little life update since I kind of went AWOL: I recently started dating this handsome dude, and let me tell ya, he’s wonderful. Dating can be scary for us #spoonies since we never know what the day will bring and most people don’t adjust to the unpredictability, but he just goes with it. But enough about Shay (for now, plenty more to come.) I’m STILL sick. Day after day I cough up more & more mucus, I’m still having 3 hours coughing fits, and to top it all off... my GI symptoms have came back full force. I’m holding very little down, after meal bathroom runs are becoming a thing again, and I overall just don’t feel well. After getting little help from the immunologist, aside from her telling me that I don’t have asthma or an immune deficiency disorder, I kind of gave up. But then I reminded myself, I can’t give up, only I can fight for my right to get an answer. So I just scheduled a pulmonologist appointment for July 12th and I have a gastro appointment later in July. I’m fighting for my right to be healthy. I’m fighting for my life back. Last night's meal for one! A quick easy one had no idea what to make last night and stumbled across @beckyexcell vegan sweet potato satay curry and a quick recipe prefect for when late home from work ! Never made a satay curry before but was rather good and will definitely be making again! Campfire stew tonight from @pinchofnom. Cooked in the slow cooker all day. This is definitely going on my #favourite list! I didn't put red kidney beans in, as the recipe stated, as the family don't like them, but I used black eyed beans and also added a tin of Heinz Creationz Lentil curry (free). Gluten free chicken ‘pie’ 🥧 also fodmap friendly if you leave out the leeks!. . Recipe 👇🏻 I pan fried my leeks & chicken (fodmappers - not suitable phase 1), added a teaspoon of dried parsley and half @massel_foods fodmap friendly chicken stock & let simmer for around 25 minutes (until the chicken is cooked) 10 minutes before the end I added some runner beans & carrots into the pan 🥕. . I boiled my potatoes 🥔 and once drained added some black cracked pepper & almond milk before mashing. . Add your chicken mix to an ovenproof dish, top with your mash & grill until you reach your desired level of crispyness 😍

Lunch is this but in a pyrex today... But really what I want to talk about is sauces. I’m feeling inspired to have more of them on hand to bring some life and variety to my pretty standard meals✨ . . One of my go-tos since I was in college is just to throw whatever leafy herbs I have in the fridge into a blender or food processor with lots of olive oil, garlic, salt and lemon juice. The perfect way to use up herbs that you have extras of or don’t know what to do with🌿 . . But I feel like I’m missing out on a whole world of delicious sauces, dips and dressings. So I would love to hear what your favorites sauces are or what saucy recipes you’ve been eyeing! Share below 💚💚💚 . . . Anyone else appreciate seeing animals/nature 10x more when you’re sick? Yeah. Me too. . . Been having a shitty (pun intended) day the last few days. I had finally been feeling a little better for about a week there, to the point where I was getting ahead of myself again looking at part time desk jobs I thought I could manage and fantasizing about making real, lasting progress. I’m currently being treated for SIBO, and while my fatigue has improved tremendously since last fall when I literally could not stay awake for longer than 2 or 3 hours at a time and had constant flu symptoms, my stomach issues have been out of control. I was starting to feel like maybe I would get SIBO under control by the end of the summer and finally take some small steps to moving forward like getting a part time desk job or taking an LSAT prep class. Now, I’m getting discouraged again that the treatment I’m in won’t work (it’s got like a 50% success rate and chance if recurrence is HIGH). Anyway, it’s always more devastating when you go from a semi high to hitting a low again. You’d think after getting my hopes up and being let down constantly I’d guard myself a little better on the good times. But I guess there’s something to say about the fact that I can still get so hopeful? Why can't a campsite snack bar do a vegetarian burger without a bun? We were buying other food and drinks and I can't eat bread (gluten). Honestly, the majority of the people who work in there are awful! On our first night I asked about their chips, to see if they were gluten free or not. They refused to let me see the ingredients of the chips outside of the kitchen, even though their till, counter and kitchen are all inaccessible to me on a wheelchair. They are so rude without need. It isn't like I was asking anything difficult or complicated. Ah...... 🌸 ahh home time. Just treated myself to a sports massage which absolutely was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. I have very tight hips, glutes and sore back & shoulders! - lucky me! I think I need to work on my pre and post workout stretches.. meanwhile I’m now home to a spotless flat thanks to my cleaners and enjoying a decaf cappuccino ♥️ we made it half way through the week! I unfortunately don’t have the physical or mental spoons right now to really write about my experience with and thoughts on this fact but I really found it quite shocking actually and it just shows more and more the importance of identifying and treating endometriosis in adolescence. The pelvic floor is a bowl of muscles inside the pelvis which support the pelvic organs (bladder, colon, uterus/prostate). Those muscles can become dysfunctional just like any other muscle of the body.  . . These muscles can become overactive, spasmodic and/or hypertonic (“tight”) which can result in a myriad of symptoms including: pain with sex, urinary urgency/frequency, constipation, pain with bowel movements, pain with urination and incontinence! The last one surprises people, because everyone assume incontinence is due to weakness. If a muscle is in a guarded state, and it doesn’t have any more room to move, it won’t be able to contract when it needs to. So if the bladder is full, the muscles can’t do their job, and this can lead to leaking.  . . Pelvic floor muscle weakness can contribute to urinary, fecal incontinence, back pain or symptoms relating to pelvic organ prolapse.  . . Not sure why I decided CRAB CURRY was what I was going to make for lunch on one of the hottest days of the summer but at least it was tasty! 🦀 . As the weather gets warmer and warmer I’m increasingly resenting my all cooked foods protocol - all I want to eat right now is a big COLD smoothie or slice of watermelon 🍉 But I guess leftover crab curry will do? 😂 . I have a check in with my gut doctor on Friday and crossing my fingers that we’ll set up a plan for reintroducing some other foods 🤞🏼 . I am back on the sauerkraut making band wagon and don't know why I ever got off it since it's so ridiculously easy to make. Fermented foods are nature's probiotic. We know some stuff about the gut #microbiome but there is also alot we don't know. And while I do believe a good quality #probiotic can be really helpful for boosting health promoting microbes in our gut during times of imbalance, I don't believe we will ever get to optimal gut health without good 'ol (powerful!) I took this photo of Diesel and I early this morning...accurate as I'm feeling off today, foggy. An emotional hangover of sorts I suppose. Yesterday was filled with love, laughter and tears. I love watching my children grow. I love learning to be a mom. And learn is what we do. It doesn't stop after infancy and it's always challenging. Good work moms!! And dads. As for this day, well, I'd like to get out for a walk but I need a restroom close by today, IBS truths, sorry. Not really sorry. It's one of my struggles that I need to work with on the daily. Happy World IBD Day everyone! Its been an eye opening few months finally having a diagnosis. Although I never could have imagined this would happen to me, I wouldn’t want to alter my life at all. I’m learning so much about the strong and enduring woman I am. I have so much more motivation to do better for myself and have become much more invested in my health and wellbeing. I feel truly lucky that this is the life I get to lead. This illness is really such a small part of the individual that I am and whilst it does interfere in many aspects of my life, it also pushes me to achieve my goals. I hope we can all continue to raise awareness about IBD and the effects that it has on our community. The IBD community continues to inspire me everyday and I’m so proud to be a member of it 💜 much love! . #crohnsdisease #crohns #ibd #chronicillness #flushthestigma #ibs #worldibdday

Life update: I’ve been on steroids for almost two weeks now. It has been pretty hectic. I have been experiencing a few nasty side effects which have been difficult to say the least. I’m in the process of having a chronic illness health plan being made and also a mental health plan. These are two very important things that I’m hoping will assist me in managing my illnesses. I’ve felt like I haven’t really had time to do many things for myself since my diagnosis. I wanted to post this photo because I actually was able to get myself all glammed up and go out for dinner with some close friends last night and it actually felt so good. It’s important to take the time out of your day or week to do something that makes you happy, whatever it may be. Aiming to do more things like this 🤩 #crohnsdisease #crohns #ibd #chronicillness #flushthestigma #ibs
