Day 3 of my 3-day reboot. Lunch and dinner ended up being new combos of food from yesterday. So what? I’d rather keep it simple most days - no need to create a new meal from scratch each night if you’ve already prepared some healthy choices! I also supplemented with a Larabar (split between midmorning and midafternoon snacks) to help me through ZumbaTone. Dates aren’t on the 10-day detox, but I discovered that I needed something to help me through my workouts. Still 100% real food, which is important to me! . Breakfast: cauliflower rice/egg hash, salsa, and kiwi. Lunch: pickled veggies and cold salmon cake “sandwich” with avocado and roasted red peppers. Dinner: mixed greens, chicken salad, and sautéed artichoke hearts and sundried tomatoes (just to warm them up a bit). And oh yeah, a few more slices of avocado! . When people learn that I’m a health coach, the two main assumptions are that I help people lose weight or that I help people eat healthy. This is problematic on a lot levels that most of us are aware of by now, but the short version for those of us who aren’t is: Health is more than about size and more than about food (or even exercise). We know this because we know or have heard of people who have lean bodies and also live with disordered eating, autoimmune diseases, and/or other illness or disease. We know or have heard of people who eat in ways that we’d consider terrible by any standard and watch them live to ripe old age and we know or have heard of people who are in the best health and shape of their lives and drop dead of strokes or heart attacks in their prime. Focusing on weight loss or food is not always helpful, because while we may experience dramatic changes as a result of losing weight or eating differently, it may still not resolve or address the underlying cause. So I am curious to hear what doctors say to LEAN women who are diagnosed with #PCOS. It seems to be common practice for doctors to tell overweight women to lose weight and their symptoms will go away, sending these women into further states of distress and despair. Are you a lean woman with PCOS? What was the first thing your doctor said to you when you received the diagnosis about how to manage it? Seeking an açai & coconut hit after taking myself on a solo date the night before & drinking cocktails after 3 months no alcohol ! ❌🍹 • Over Christmas, New Year etc im usually travelling and celebrating which is obvs MEGA fun but drains me a lot too. I also used to drink a lot through my 20s and didn’t realise how much damage I did to my body. Last year I did 5months overall but this year I decided 3 after my birthday as I couldn’t not have a drink in Miami!? Me encantan y podemos variarle muchísimo a la preparación lo que los hace deliciosos, y sumado a eso nos ayuda en el sistema nervioso, inmunológico, circulatorio, digestivo y respiratorio, que más podemos pedir. ~A year ago. Nailed it! Getting a Young Investigator Award in the field of MRI 🤙🏻 within 2 years of transitioning from underwater acoustics to biomedical imaging ( in order to conduct yoga research) and talking about my yoga research meant a lot to me. I just didn’t know how much a deal this award was until the conference ( very #prestigious), well mostly because it was my first attendance ☺️. Let it be my scientific contribution the society. . . The topic of my work was understanding the effect of breathing on cerebrospinal fluid motion using a real time MRI technique, as a result of my efforts and curiosity to understand yogic breathing and cerebrospinal fluid at Georgia Tech. . It felt great to talk about yoga, yogic breathing and cerebrospinal fluid to an audience of MRI specialists even for couple of minutes. I often get weird looks when talking about the two topic together at conferences, questions like ‘ what’s up with yoga and spinal fluid and MRI? Wait what? Breathing, you said changes your spinal fluid motion ? 🤔😄”.. Yep breathing. Does wonders. Magic. We all take it granted. Deep slow rhythmical breathes. Make it conscious. Lesson 1: Practice deep slow rhythmical breathing. Does magic. Lesson 2. Follow your genuine curiosity: Switching to biomedical imaging for yoga research raised a lot of concerns among some around me at the time ( which I can see why now lol, and grateful for it ) but really following my sincere genuine curiosity felt so fulfilling. When I go back in time I will not say ‘ I haven’t tried or done my best’. . . That being said, these conferences do not excite me as much esp after IIN conferences.That week in Hawaii, I was definitely happier and at home snorkeling in the ocean, breathing & hanging out by the trees and eating dark chocolate hmmmm 🤔☺️. Small things make this one happy 🙏🏼☺️🤔👌💃 #gratitude. Making small changes is all that it takes to create something big and beautiful . Things like getting outdoors for 10 minutes longer than you would normally and connect with nature. Making yourself a coffee/tea smoothie and actually looking around you instead of being on the phone. Try to meditate each day, starting with 5 minutes. Replace a coffee with a glass of water, turn the music up and dance each day, add an extra vegetable to your meal, bring gratitude into your day, celebrate you. Your future self will love you😘🌷

TGIF and TG for avocado toast 🎉 bc when hunger strikes, this makes the best snack 😉 Yass a whole avocado smashed onto a slice of sourdough toast topped with @traderjoes EBTB seasoning and @tessemaes ketchup (my absolute favorite combo right here 💚💚) I got the best question about sleep from my last post from @camhurstt Q: "I sleep on average 5 to 6 hours a night. I'm ok with that. how do I know if I'm hurting my body?" A: the recommended amount of sleep between the ages of 18 - 64 years is 7-9 hours! Although this is only a recommendation, YOU are truly the only person who can determine how many of hours of sleep your body needs, our bodies have circadian rhythm which is our natural sleep/wake cycle (which is often time disrupted by alarm clocks, coffee, energy drinks, external lights, late nights (we all have many of these), our cell phones, TV etc..) which truly determines how many hours our body needs in order to restore itself for the next day...so it's important to pay attention to how you feel throughout the day...if your tired then you probably need more sleep and vice versa 😳 always remember what works for you now, might not work for you next week, month or year bc our bodies are continuously changing 😜 Hope this helps...BTW Happy 4-20 and almost 🌎day! For me PCOS and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis leave me feeling rather tired, low and in pain at times which isn't fun at all. When designing a workout program, I always start with a compound movement ( squats, deadlifts, press) than I do isolation movements/unilateral and finish with some stabilization or conditioning (usually core). SL squats are great to work on strength, balance, and flexibility of the leg muscles. This variation is a great way to start if you already have the basics of a proper squat. Let me know your favorite SL movement :) do you implement those in your training routine?

Taking a deep breath when life seems like too much has empowered me to take charge of my emotions 🧠 We are constantly breathing, but how often do we take the time to become aware of this incredible action. This past year I have used this tool in my daily life. Life can feel crazy at times. We may not have control over what is happening around us. However, we are in complete control on how we react ✨Sometimes our first reaction is not the one that will benefit us the most. If you take a moment to breath before you react, you may be surprised by the outcome. If you are reading this, I invite you to take a deep breath with me....in....out.
