A couple of years ago, sitting in Japan in our friends lounge room, One of our friends put her hand on her heart and asked me to "teach her the spirit of Yoga" I almost fell off my chair when she said it. I'd never had anyone put it into words like that So we all gathered around one night and shared a practice together. Taught in half English & half in Japanese, I guided us all through meditation, pranayama & a flow. What we all shared in that night embodied exactly what the spirit of this practice is to me Union, sharing, community, acceptance. Coming together as individuals all with differences only to realise that there's not much that truly divides us from one another Brings a little mist to my eyes thinking about it, because it's probably one of the richest, purest experiences of my life to date Experiences like this, moments like this. I've noticed how Yoga Instructors tend to mix up these 2 beautiful asanas. Understandable since they look very similar. Bakasana (crane pose,2nd on video) requires your knees to be tucked, wedged high up into the underarms. The arms are straight. The core is super engaged and your hips are lifted as high as possible, and there is a slight rounding in the back. Kakasana(crow pose) does not require the knee-into-underarm tuck or straight arms, instead sliding your knees past your triceps or the back of your arms and let them rest there with bent arms. Ok, I know it sounds a bit trite, but it’s true, & let me explain why 😋 I’m pretty sure that none of us are perfect. Even the most enlightened being living in a cave somewhere is still subject to the human condition. The way I see it, we are life manifesting & experiencing itself... With all its ups & downs, challenges, & ‘perfect imperfections’. Life is messy, life is change; It would be pretty boring if it wasn’t, & we would exist in a state of stasis without growing or learning anything, & what would be the point of that? When it comes right down to it, all of our ‘flaws’, quirks & differences are just surface stuff. We are an expression of the universe, & that means that we only have to dig a little beneath the surface to find out that what we are all made of is ‘awesome’ 😎 . SCOLIOSIS〰️ This is my rib hump. It’s there because my spine is twisted and my ribs are rotated. I think it’s reduced in Rotation but I have no photos to compare as I used to be so ashamed of it and never wanted to see what it looked like. It doesn’t look good for the ‘lovely, symmetrical’ asana pictures that most other people post. It makes me look different, may be as though I can’t do the pose properly. These are all the stories that I did, and still do (though a lot less now thankfully!) tell myself when it’s prominent in pictures. These stories are just that, stories. The reality is that most people never notice, are actually inspired and thankful that there are people of all shapes and sizes it there, just like them. ✨ This is a message to say that you are not alone and you are amazing. Scoliosis can often bring pain and other struggles, to live with that daily is incredibly strong. Your spine is unique and tells an inspiring story. It’s hard to love and trust a body that feels like it betrays us but It is possible I promise. Scoliosis is not just a physical issue, it affects our mental health too.💚 #scoliosis #scoliosisawareness

~ Yoga is a lifestyle ~ and I am so damn happy I’ve found this beautiful practice. It makes me feel better within myself, as well as trying to be a better human in my day to day life. Once you’ve found it, the power of yoga is so strong, no wonder it has stuck around 2000+ years. . I am also so grateful I get to share this special practice with others. When people come to my classes so we can practice together and trust my guidance and knowledge, there’s no better feeling (especially yesterday my heart was full 💗). Guiding people around the mat and helping with the inner stuff too. When a beginner comes and makes that connection to keep practicing, it’s just magic to see. Or a existing practitioner looking for a new direction and trusts you to take them there. The look in peoples eyes when they’ve found something they never knew existed inside. I never dreamt of this, and am only grateful for the opportunity that has been so unexpectedly come my way 🙏 . Saying that maybe yoga isn’t your thing, however I do believe it is important to find what is. That thing that makes you forget your phone, makes you warm inside when you think about it. The thing you enjoy spending your time doing, the thing that makes you feel good. Make some time for it. Your soul will be happy. Day ② of #YogisConnection2 - O - any one legged pose or any pose that makes you feel OMazing I'm now on hospital, and have finally got rid of my gallbladder. I did shot the #yogaphotos yesterday, to avoid temptation of starting too early post surgery. I don't use to pre shot for challenges as I love to be inspired and try out new creative variations and camera angles during challenges, but this is definitely a special circumstance.
