How BFR training works? BFR stands for blood flow restriction training. In this training you place bands on specific locations to restrict the blood flow going back to the heart through veins. Focus here is not to restrict the blood flow coming to muscle from heart but instead prevent blood flow return from muscle. When we restrict the blood flow return from the muscle, it slowly gets oxygen deprived, as it's not getting back to heart. You all know bodybuilder have more of fast twitch muscles (it easily gets exhausted but have great power and best potential for growth) and marathon runners have more of slow twitch fibers. Fast twitch fibres are anaerobic (don't need oxygen) in nature and slow twitch (need oxygen). When you lift weights, slow twitch fibres are recruited first and when they exhaust, fast twitch fibres gets recruited which only has potential for growth. BFR training restricts blood flow pre-fatiguing the slow twitch muscle and forcing fast twitch muscle to handle the load even at low intensity. So just pause and understand, muscles are getting similar effect to lifting heavy weights. So you actually shifted focus on your muscles which actually have potential for growth. It's science and proven, so don't worry about a second. Eligible muscles for BFR training? Arms (biceps and triceps), calves, legs (quadriceps and hamstrings) and forearms. It's impossible to use BFR training for chest and back muscles because they are naturally placed very close to heart and it's hard to restrict veins blood flow back to heart and risky too. Who can do BFR Training? BFR is not a substitute for heavy training but it is no doubt useful for people who can't train heavy due to injury and people who are deloading. Great work by @kelsey_irish_1 over the last 4 months 💪🏻🔥 What were your motivations when starting Personal Training? - Brooke ence - my main motivation when starting to train properly. I’d watched the crossfit games and got inspired by women being able to lift. I’d trained before and gone to the gym but never really had got the results I wanted - What was your lifestyle and nutrition like before starting? - It’s safe to say my diet was horrendous. My average day of eating consisted of twix bars, full fat redbull and one proper meal with pints after work - How has your diet, lifestyle, mindset and body changed? - My diet now is polar opposite thanks to being given the knowledge behind food, macros and tracking calories. Not changing a lot of the food I used to but making it work for me. I genuinely love training and seeing the weight on the bar go up. My goal is to get hench and seeing is believing. - What was the hardest thing about the process and what have/did we do to combat that? - The hardest thing for me has been the nutrition side of it all. I’ve never had a great relationship with food and I’ve never eaten a great amount. Before I ate shitty food and being put on the same amount of calories but eating food with some substance was hard as it felt like I was eating so much more. - How has the change in nutrition and training impacted your lifestyle? - Having Neil as a PT has hands down been the best thing I’ve done. The information I’ve gotten not only about training but nutrition has changed me massively. I feel healthy in the changes I’ve made when nutrition is concerned and I don’t feel shit everyday due to eating all the wrong things. I'm getting hench! Main goal is slowly becoming a reality and I thoroughly enjoy training its not a task to go to the gym. - What have you learned since working with me? - I’ve learnt so much when it comes to how to train not only in form and movement but putting together a training session. At first I was cramming everything in to a session but now I know how to get the most out of each movement. I think it took 2 months but you finally taught me how to put the bar back on the ground! Deadlifts - completed it 💪💪
