This mum is amazing 💜 Nici came to me for low back pain which was so bad after having her first baby that she couldn't walk or stand without excruciating pain. I took her on at the end of last year and she came to appts every week, put in the work and made some incredible changes to get body & life - and that was even with baby Rhani climbing all over us in the studio!! (pre-corona times 😂). I also put her on a gluten, dairy and sugar free anti-inflammatory diet to reduce the effect dietary triggers can have on symptoms - gut inflammation shuts down your core stabilizing muscles and make back pain symptoms worse. As you can see from these before & after pics, she's made a huge difference to her posture - in the first pic you can see the excess lumbar lordosis, lengthened lower abdominals, forward head and the tension in her posterior chain. In the pic on the right, you can see how much better aligned she is - her ear runs straight through the optimal line, her lumbar spine no longer looks as hyperextended and we’ve gotten rid of the abdominal pouch I see in so many with weak core. It was def an up & down journey, as a lot of back pain cases are, mainly because #mumlife circumstances hinder progress (think picking baby up, putting in car seat, in/out of cot etc). But (happy ending): 5 months later her core is so much stronger (a key component of treating LBP), she is bending down without having to support herself and although she still has the mild ache, she can now pack boxes, garden and even just run around all day after her little one without crippling pain! 💪 I don't think I've worked with anyone who was more committed and involved in the whole process as she was. Which made saying goodbye (they're moving interstate permanently) but having to keep appropriate social distance after all this time even more sad 😭 Wishing you all the best Nici, I'll miss you two💜 xx

Feeling stressed? Anxious? Like you're not coping with life right now? This is a quick & easy breathing technique you can do anywhere (no weird poses needed I promise 😊) to feel instant calm and less stress. 💜 Start with a INHALE through the nose and into the belly for 4 seconds. 💜Then EXHALE out through the mouth for 8 seconds. This is the key part - exhalation is linked to our various nerve and our parasympathetic (or test and digest, chill out) nervous system and how this technique is so effective. Whatever the inhale time you use, simply exhale for twice as long. Repeat as many times as you need to feel calmer. Because it's so easy, it's also a great one for kids feeling anxiety or overwhelmed. Now, more than ever, we need to be extremely mindful of our physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. With more people at home, kids being out of school and businesses on hold, rates of depression, emotional distress and abuse are unfortunately on the rise. 😔 . But the good news is we have been given all the time on the world to slow down, to be mindful of our daily practices and to regain back our health that we’ve neglected from the bustle of a busy life. . I get it - it can be so tempting to let things slide, staying up late binge-watching Netflix or eating like we’re on Christmas break. But we mustn’t turn a bad situation worse - we mustn’t get trapped in an unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle that will be harder to fix on the back end. . Today is the start of a new month, and the start of new habits. You can commit to almost anything for 30 days but here are some suggestions: . 👉 Exercise - move your body and keep the lymph flowing so your immune system stays healthy. The more variance the better. . 👉 Meditate - let your mind be still, observe, (but don’t judge) your thoughts and let them pass. . 👉 Create - try a craft or hobby every day. Coloring, painting, nature journaling or baking are therapeutic to the soul . 👉Hydrate - drink a gallon of 💦 a day (or half your body weight in ounces plus fluids lost in sweat/breast milk) . 👉 Rituals - morning gratitude journaling or evening yoga flow practices can be so soothing to the body, mind and soul . Or commit to learning something new in 30 days! . What do you want to focus on this month?

Today would normally be 🌟WORLD AUTISM DAY🌟only it's been postponed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ But we think any day is a good day to raise awareness of this increasingly common condition and shine a light on those living with it. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ DID YOU KNOW autism can be diagnosed in children aged two years and even younger? ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Younger siblings of children already diagnosed are being assessed before they are one.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Here is some signs that may warrant further investigation including: ⁠⠀ • cannot walk by 18 months or walks only on his toes⁠⠀ • does not speak, imitate actions, or follow simple instructions by 2yrs⁠⠀ • has very limited speech, does not use short phrases and has difficulty in understanding simple instructions by 3yrs⁠⠀ • has limited interest in other children⁠⠀ • preschool age kids have limited development of play activities, particularly imaginative play⁠⠀ • child may have sleep troubles and repetitive movements like flapping, hand shaking or rocking⁠⠀ • the child maybe extremely distressed by certain noises or busy places ⁠⠀ • may have resistance to certain foods or food varieties in their diet⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ If you have any concerns about your child’s development, our team of psychologists can support you and can also make a formal diagnose. I feel for so many people right now. The lingering uncertainty of what will happen, which goes against our very basic human need of having a balance of certainty and the unknown in our lives. But what I most feel for people, That is having a much greater impact on people as a result of what is going on, Is the financial stress that they're enduring. In my opinion the worst kind of stress, because it can influence our decisions in so many aspects of our lives. I know how this feels because I've felt it before and it's exhausting. As many people on my socials would know I regularly talk about having multiple streams of income. After also losing my primary source of income, my additional online income stream that was what I liked to call my thriving money, the space which allows me to do more of the things I love, like travel Has become my surviving (basic needs ) money in this temporary moment. But with all of that I'm optimistic as ever. Why...Because I'm aware that I can't control the external, yet I have the tools to navigate this period that will allow me to continue to have an abundant mindset, maintain my physical, mental and emotional wellbeing to move through this with clarity. And I know for so many people, this time is going to create a huge shift for them too. The large majority of us have gained back our time. If you don't feel you like you have the tools to navigate this period in certain areas of your life and feel like you have no control, then this is a great time to pivot with how you invest your time. Where do you feel that right now you could learn the necessary knowledge and skills to create change in that area?

There might be a lot of cake photos posted in the next few weeks 😉 This one is made of coconut flour, coconut oil, raw honey, cocoa powder and organic eggs... I've been baking 'healthier' versions of the treats I used to make for years but it seems even more important during this time - not only because we're not able to go out as freely to have cake but also because we're all trying to do what we can to best support our immune system and unfortunately white flour & sugar isn't the most ideal. It hit me today how sad I feel about the situation - my little girl not being able to play freely with other kids, people losing jobs and hope, the constant fear and the anger and frustration more and more people are getting at each other. Understandable as we're all suffering in some way. Just need to keep thinking that there has to be a light at the end of this, and that until then that we treat each other with love and respect 💜🙏 #iwashedmyhands #kidfriendly

✔️Weekends spent at home 🏠I wish I had a bath and and outlook like this 🌳🙈⁣ ⁣ But I am planning🛁 a bath with a glass of red 🍷 some snacks, a good 📚 book at some stage this weekend. It’s something I haven’t done in way too long!⁣ ⁣ Whilst I am loving seeing all these home workouts people are doing, I so want to recognise that it is ok to just relax and chill as well 💆🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ Remember that there is a lot of emotional stress at the moment. People are emotionally exhausted (that was me yesterday 🙋🏻‍♀️) And emotions are often up and down. Your body can only deal with so much. So if it’s being pushed to it’s limited mentally, maybe you need to pull back physically. Now,I also know that exercise and a good sweat session can absolutely help to make people feel better mentally. So I am not saying don’t do it. In order to do our part in preventing the spread as well as to protect our nearest, we will be closing (physical) doors to the studio for the next two weeks (unless circumstances dictate we need to continue for longer). Did you know yesterday concluded Brain Awareness Week? A week typically dedicated to sharing research and progress in the area of diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia and depression. ⠀ ⠀ But given all that’s been going on, there’s a fair chance you haven’t heard any findings....⠀ ⠀ We chat to our dietitian Sarah Gray on what you can eat to support a healthy brain. ⠀ ⠀ After all, food has the ability to help prevent, delay onset or support recovery for many brain disorders, in conjunction with other treatment.⠀ ⠀ Here’s Sarah’s 5 top nutrients for healthy brain function: ⠀ ⠀ 💪PROTEIN is the building block for all hormones, so having an adequate protein intake is essential in maintaining a healthy balance of hormones including serotonin, our 'happy hormone'. One study in older adults also showed that those following a high protein diet had lower levels of amyloid beta - a precursor of Alzheimer’s disease.⠀ ⠀ 💪OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS protect the brain by protecting the integrity of myelin sheath, or 'insulation' of the 'wiring' in the brain, and because of their anti-inflammatory properties. The most concentrated source of Omega 3 is oily fish such as salmon, tuna and mackerel. Nuts and seeds are also high in Omega 3, but it is found in a different form, ALA. Only a small amount of ALA is converted by the body to EPA and DHA - the most studied beneficial forms of Omega 3 Fatty Acids. ⠀ ⠀ 💪VITAMIN B12 is essential for brain and nerve function. While most people associate B12 deficiency with vegan diets, almost 1 in 4 Australians were found to be deficient in a sample of the population. Issues with digestion including insufficient stomach acid and enzymes can cause B12 deficiency. Sarah recommends anyone suffering from memory issues, fatigue, taking prescription reflux medication or over the age of 65 years to have their levels tested. During at this time, many people continue to feel ‘on edge’ and worried about what is to come. ⠀ ⠀ But the Coronavirus isn’t something that is going to pass just as quickly as it came. At earliest estimates, the government suggests we’re in this for another six months. So it’s important we all try to find our ‘happy’. We love this analogy by Michelle Dawson and thought it was rather pertinent right now:⠀ ⠀ “A teacher brought balloons to school and asked the children to blow them all up and then each write their names on their balloon.⠀ ⠀ They tossed all the balloons into the hall while the teacher mixed them from one end to the other. The teacher then gave them 5 minutes to find the balloon with their name on it. ⠀ ⠀ The children ran around, looking frantically but as the time ran out - nobody had found their own balloon…⠀ ⠀ Then the teacher told them to take the balloon closest to them and give it to the person who’s name was on it. Cruz, Bolivia, representando a Venezuela. Requirió mucho entrenamiento intensivo y extenso para participar en Voleibol, Bala y Jabalina. Y bien, con tal entrenamiento, mi cuerpo había adquirido una forma muy tonificada y atlética. Físicamente, mi resistencia era alta. Yo estaba, como se diría, en el máximo rendimiento de un atleta. La parte difícil: regresar… Cuando la competencia finalizó y regresé a mi vida diaria, significó menos sesiones de entrenamiento intenso. En realidad, esto fue probablemente buenas noticias para mi cuerpo. Nadie está destinado a entrenar a ese nivel todo el tiempo. Te agotarás y puede ser contraproducente para tí. ¡Pero dile eso a una adolescente que sólo quería tener el cuerpo con el que se sentía más cómoda! Comencé a notar que el peso volvía…especialmente en ciertas áreas de mi cuerpo. Esto es muy normal y de esperarse luego de dejar una dieta restrictiva de atleta. Pero nuevamente, no quería que fuera verdad. Quería que las cosas estuvieran bajo control. Estaba confundida. Quería luchar contra eso.
