I’ve gotta say, I’m happy to be posting something besides latkes today! This may not be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever made, but these meatballs and cauliflower gnocchi were 👌👌👌 Have y’all used @raoshomemade marinara before? Apparently I’ve been living under a rock because I had no idea it was a restaurant, but their sauce is bomb and best of all, no gross additives. Ingredients: 1 package @traderjoes cauliflower gnocchi 1lb grass fed ground beef 1/2c shaved brussels 1 pastured raised egg Salt Pepper Garlic powder Oregano Red pepper flakes 1/2 jar @raoshomemade marinara Arugula Mix ground beef, brussels, egg, and some salt, pepper, garlic, oregano and red pepper flakes in a bowl. Form into balls and brown in a saucepan with a bit of olive oil over a medium flame. While meatballs are cooking, heat a skillet over a medium flame and add gnocchi. Cook until defrosted, then add a bit of olive oil, tossing until browned. Add sauce to meatballs and toss in gnocchi. Serve in a bowl with fresh arugula. Top with EBTB seasoning because duh! #sweetthensavory at Brooklyn, New York

✨C O N S I S T E N T S E L F L O V E is the secret to your wellBeing. That’s it. Here’s my Ashwagandha, again, when you use tools like food, herbs and tonics, they take time. Not like the instant effect of a headache tablet. In the case of #ashwagandha it takes 3-4 weeks for your body to start feeling the benefits. Consistency is essential, not just for the plants to work their magic, but for you to work yours! Loving yourself enough to practice daily #selflove and #selfcare with positive intention - this is your part of the bargain, the plants and food can only do so much. It’s your intention and then consistent choosing of yourSelf that’s a powerful agent for healing. ‘Now the easiest way to dissect success, is through gratitude. Giving thanks for that which we do have. For what is working. Appreciating the simple things we sometimes do take for granted. We give thanks for these things, and that gratitude reciprocates. Creating more to be thankful for. It’s really simple, and it works. Now I’m not saying be in denial of your failures. No, we can learn from them too. But only if we look at them constructively. As a means to reveal what we are good at. What we can get better at. What we do succeed at.’

ROASTED LAMB ROULADE with potatoes and greek salad for dinner - so delicious and extremely filling🤗 Details: Lamb roulade filled with pesto stuffing, potatoes with skin kept on (more crispy, more tasty and more nutrients) roasted in olive oil, mixed herbs, salt, pepper and garlic cloves (finely sliced). Salad consists of baby cos lettuce, cucumber, tomato, dried mint, goats cheese feta (I used @dodoni_feta - my fav), balsamic marinated kalamata olives and dressed with extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper (usually would add a kilo of Spanish onion but we ran out - a great greek tragedy 😢) #healthydinner #lamb #roulade #pesto #roastedpotatoes #greeksalad #delicious #yummy #nutritious #filling #satisfying #intuitiveeating #feta #roastlamb #balancedeating #nolabels #nodiet #nourishingfood #bodyfuel

Giant postworkout meal, or at least it looks like it because it didn't quite fit in my plate 😂 I used up a random tomato half and some leftover pan fried chicken from yesterday's Sunday lunch. Ever since not tracking, I've been more wary of using up leftovers and I've been saving so much money, it's crazy. However, I did splurge on an avocado because I was craving avo toast and eggs 😳 Absolutely no idea how much calories I've just taken in, but I enjoyed the meal, I'm not hungry anymore and I'm happy. That's what matters. Lunch (postworkout): 2 slices toasted wholemeal bread 🍞, half an avocado, hard boiled egg 🍳, pan-fried chicken with herbs 🐔, half a tomato 🍅 #lunch #postworkout #chicken #avocadotoast #vegetables #healthy #healthyfood #balance #intuitiveeating #food #foodie #foodlove #foodporn #foodshare #foodpicture #foodstagram #foodgasm #foodblog #fitfam #foodinspo #recovery #weightgainiscool #strongnotskinny #edrecovery

Do you struggle with your eating at Christmas? 😔🙋🏼‍♀️ I used to find it really difficult at Christmas time! I didn’t like going to all the Christmas celebrations because I felt like I couldn’t control my eating. There was always so much on offer & I would end up eating so much that I felt sick and guilty with how much I ate. 😔 Thankfully I’ve learnt some strategies over the years that have really helped me manage this and I wanted to share this with you guys because now how tricky it can be! My Christmas Tips: 1️⃣ You don’t need to eat every sweet or treat that comes your way - it’s totally ok to enjoy some treats at Christmas time, but you don’t have to eat all of them! Give yourself permission to say yes to your favourite treats and no to the ones you don’t like as much. That way you can enjoy your favourite treat with absolutely no regrets and feel good about it. 2️⃣ Christmas is just one day - not the entire month of December, so you don’t need to eat a Christmas feast everyday leading up to Christmas 😅 Enjoy Christmas Day and eat lots, but keep your portions at your normal sizes in the weeks and days leading up to Christmas Day. 3️⃣ Really enjoy your food - there are lots of delicious foods on offer at Christmas, so really enjoy your food when you eat it. Eat slowly, taste the different flavours & enjoy the company of those around you too! Remember what Christmas is really about ☺️ 4️⃣ It’s ok to re-gift or compost your foods - I’m not a fan of food waste but I do think there are situations where it’s totally ok to pop it in the compost if it’s not a healthy food and you don’t want to eat. Do you have any Christmas eating tips? Tell me below; I’d love to hear them👇🏼 . . #christmas #christmaseating #thegrounds #thegroundsofalexandria #intuitiveeating #dietitian #healthyeatingtips #weightloss #weightlosstips #eathealthy #pink #pastel at The Grounds of Alexandria

Being a mother will one day make my world (and my belly) a little “bigger” …my life a little richer, my bank account a little poorer…. However for a while this possibility looked bleak, as a result of my eating disorder I lost my periods for 6 years and was told by a fair few Drs if I didn’t get better this would decrease my chance of conceiving Loss of, or abnormal periods, referred to as amenorrhea, is one of the main problems that can happen as a consequence of an eating disorder, and can increase risk of infertility
Amenorrhea may result in girls when body fat falls below a threshold value that is necessary for menstruation and the maintenance of ovulation When malnourishment continues for a long period of time, or the body is repeatedly put under undo amounts of stress this can increase fertility issues in the future Other lifestyle factors, like stress from jobs or over exercising can also contribute to this. I also lost mine when I was working on the cruise ships - a combination of diet and lifestyle When this happens it’s your bodies way of waving the red flag 🚩 “whoooooa hold up sista we are NOT a safe environment for supporting another life” During my recovery I was often in conflict between me wanting to get better and be a healthy weight; a fully functioning future home of any mini-minion(s) and the sick success my eating disorder would tell me having no periods was: I was “ill enough” to shut my body down. Abusing my body in this way felt a “safe” place to be I don’t know about you but i definitely want to be the mum who’s cartwheeling & cliff diving, snorkelling & cycling, eating ice cream and throwing fun birthday parties with cake... The one teaching there kids to respect their bodies & enjoy their lives because their mum does too Be it travelling, studying, socialising, or more long term goals such as conceiving, or protecting your bone health. Instead of seeing recovery as your body getting “bigger” start to see your WOLRD getting “bigger” as so many amazing possibilities open ✌️

📯 NEW POST 📯 . The Monday intuitive eating blog post is now live... Go check it out using the link in my bio. . Today's topic carried on from assessing hunger by discussing food permissions and why it is so important to give yourself full and unconditional access to all foods in order to forge a healthier food relationship. . I'd love to hear from you if you've had any experience of trying this stage, as I know it can be very daunting making the switch from a dieting mindset to trusting yourself with full and unrestricted access. But oh, it's so worth taking the leap for........ ❤️

#Repost @bodyimage_therapist (@get_repost) ・・・ I find it really interesting that in the lead up to warmer months, a tropical holiday, or a big event suddenly a lot of us start wanting to 'get healthy'. It makes me think about how 'getting healthy' is typically code for 'getting skinny' especially during these times, where more skin may be exposed, or a lot of photos will be taken. It's not so much about health, it's about being smaller, or 'in shape' for whatever body shape is trending at that time...(I still can't get over how a body can be trending). If we automatically assume becoming smaller is synonymous with health everytime, we've missed the mark. I think it's important that we are clear with our intentions. If someone wants to be smaller for aesthetic reasons, own that, but please reconsider linking it with health seeking if that's not actually the deeper intention. I say this because people experience health in different ways, in different body sizes, so equating health with a smaller size is actually weight bias which does harm. . #psychology #healthateverysize #stigma #mentalhealth #feminism #wellbeing #health #edrecovery #dietitian #diet #dietculture #bodyimage #bodypositivity #bopo #intuitiveeating #nondiet

[ DIETS DO NOT WORK] 95% of diets fail. Diets don’t fail because of the individuals willpower or lack of it, they fail because our body is hardwired to keep us alive. Diets fail because our body has a set weight range that it will fluctuate between (on average 5-8kgs), but when it drops below this weight range our survival instincts kick in to only think of food, to seek out food and gorge on food to protect against another period of starvation (any calorie deficit from what our individual body needs is a starvation period). This cycle looks like start diet, lose weight, binge, feelings of being a ‘failure’ for not being able to stick to the diet and restarting a diet. This cycle of dieting has huge negative impacts on our mental health as it greatly increases the risk of developing distorted eating, as well as our physical health as our bodies mechanisms start to adapt to absorbing more calories from food to protect against another cycle of starvation. More so, what are you really wanting from being on a diet? That a smaller body will lead you to finally accept and love your body and yourself? If so, you will never reach true body love and acceptance through dieting and external results, as our bodies are designed to fluctuate and change. There is another way and starts with stopping diets. Now. Has a diet ever actually worked for you long term? Statistically the answer is probably no. What was the experience like while being on the diet? Did it enrich or limit your joy in life? Then why would you start another one?

@thehealthfuldietitian

You can have an ‘ideal weight’ but it means nothing if it’s not the right weight for you. This approach only leads you to work against your own body - often for years. Until we hate and resent our own bodies because they won’t do what we want them to do. We blame ourselves for not being able to achieve the weight we want to be. We feel shame, guilt and despair for not ‘reaching our goals’. Ultimately we punish our bodies more with further restriction and rules. It’s not your fault the diet didn’t work, diets don’t work. There is another way. I offer a non-diet intuitive eating approach to achieve freedom from dieting for good #nondiet #nondietapproach #nodiets #intuitiveeating #nojudgement #dietitian #nutritionist #haes #ie #healthateverysize #healthbeforediet

Time for some #realtalk . My recent surgery although technically went well, for which I am so grateful, ended up being a huge trigger for my #bingeeatingdisoder .Despite my telling every Dr. involved pre surgery that I have an #eatingdisorder and I was concerned about what this may mean for my recovery, I was met with blank stares and confused head tilts which resulted in zero support in dealing with the effect the surgery had on me. The physically limiting effects coupled with initially restrictive eating post surgery has set me back quite a bit. #EDs nasty words are back in my head and I’ve given up on fuelling my body with #realwholefoods I haven’t really been on my mat in months. I’ve been letting #ED call the shots and let me tell you my body is paying the price now. Multiple binges and no activity whatsoever. Until this morning, I woke up and was called to my mat. I even had a furry practice buddy @lilyspuplife . My body was def protesting but I feel so good now. Stronger and more grounded...ready to knock out #ED if he tries to come around. What would happen if you ditched the scales for good? Does the thought of it alone create a mini freak out? Do you panic about how on earth you’d know if you’re making any progress? I mean what would you do first thing when you get up in the morning and last thing at night? I used to feel the same. I had a crazy relationship with my scales. I was obsessed with checking how much weight I’d gained or lost, to the point I’d do it every day, sometimes a few times a day. I’d step on the scales in the hope the number had gone down even a fraction so I’d feel happy. 🤞🏼 But If it had in fact gone up instead, which happened a fair bit due to various reasons (water retention, hormones, time of day etc) then all hell would break loose. I’d beat myself up. Feel ashamed. Angry at myself. And declare that I’d be going on hunger strike for a week. The crazy thing is up until stepping on the scales I could’ve been feeling pretty good. I might have had a really good day, eaten yummy healthy food that made me feel great, been feeling more positive in my body and then BAM! The scales didn’t reflect what I needed them to and that was the end of it. We attach so much meaning to the number the scales show us but it has no relevance to your happiness, your confidence, your self worth or anything really. It’s just a number. Let it go! Remember as women our weight fluctuates throughout the month, and throughout life, it’s normal. Remember muscle weighs more than fat. And the amount of water you drink effects your weight. Stop letting one little number determine your success. Trust me, ditch the scales, lock them away, bin them, whatever you need to do. You’ll feel instantly lighter 🙏 . . . . . #emotionaleating #emotionaleatingcoach #bingeeating #intuitiveeating #stopbingeeating #bingeeatinghelp #healthy #healthconscious #weightloss #healthcoach #bodypositive #bodyconfidence #healthy #weightlossjourney #foodfreedom #bodylove #bodyimage #weightlossideas #weightlosscoach #naturalweightloss #nomorediets #loveyourbody #mindset #mindovermuffin at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

🌟Diet-culture tells us that we will be special, loved, and admired if we can live up to its ideals. . 🌟But in reality, it just conditions us to limit ourselves and our minds through our obsession with food, our bodies, and exercise. . 🌟We fear being boring, but diet-culture conditions us to be these boring, insecure, quietly obsessed versions of ourselves. . 🌟As Naomi Wolf said (but not in these words), a population obsessed with the pursuit of a body ideal is one which is quiet, placated, and non-threatening — albeit quietly mad. . 🌟Just think of all the time you spend worrying about food or your appearance. Now, imagine what you could accomplish and the impact you could have on the world if you reinvested that time and energy on the things that matter most to you? The stuff is the business! I’ve never been an ice cream van until I discovered raw milk and raw cream. Unpasteurised and in it’s completely natural state, raw milk is absolutely packed would live digestive enzymes and great microbiome supporting bacteria. * * * This one is made with a subtle flavouring of organic cacao powder, nutmeg and vanilla and it tastes incredible! * * To make: In a bowl mix 4 to 6 organic pastured truly free range egg yolks until pale and ribbony. Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract, a tablespoon of flavourless alcohol (stops the ice cream freezing solid), a drop or two of Stevia, and 2 cups of raw unpasteurised milk. Mix well, and then add your flavouring of choice. If you use pureed fruit, reduce slightly the amount of milk in accordance. I also added about 250 ml of thick unpasteurised grass fed cream From a local micro diary I have visited. Place all in your ice cream maker and follow user instructions. There are ways you can make this without an ice cream maker, but to be honest it was so complicated I just decided to invest in a basic model, you can pick one up for about £25 in your local store. I used @andrewjamesuk - let me know how you get on! at Manchester, United Kingdom

@meaty_mama

Hi 👋🏼 folks, it’s been a while I’ve been on quite a journey over the past few weeks and needed space. This pregnancy have been quite transformative, pushing me to my edges, forcing me to question my beliefs and really think about my life. It’s been tough, massive, life changing and I’m still in the thick of it. I’ve hit what they call ‘diet bottom’ and it’s made me realise I just cannot spend anymore time trying to be this perfect image of what I think (thought) was beauty, success and ‘enough’. I just don’t have the energy anymore to fight myself and force my body into submission. Even if it means staying at this weight forever I’d rather be happy than obsessed and miserable. I’ve been listening to loads of podcasts from @stephdodier @healthfulpursuit @shawnmynar @rebeccascritchfield about body acceptance, intuitive eating, health at every size and ditching diet culture and I’ve really had a mind shift. It’s like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I’ve realised I’m not a failure and the behaviours I experienced were simply the result of the diet cycle - And since I’ve removed ALL restrictions I feel way more ‘normal’ around food. But I’m in restriction rebound or ‘donut land’ as they say. I’m enjoying all the previously forbidden foods even though they make me feel like shit it’s all part of the process to making food just food and learning about my body and listening to it. If anyone is interested I’d highly recommend these podcasts and the book Intuitive Eating by @evelyntribole and @elyseresch it was life changing. I’m also currently listening to Atomic Habits by @james_clear which so far has been so profound and I’m only a quarter of the way through. I’ve been focusing so much on outcomes (reaching x weight) rather than the kind of person I want to be that even when I’m doing ‘everything right’ and the weight loss isn’t immediate I feel like a failure and give up. James suggests by focusing on becoming the person you want to be makes forming new habits much easier as everything you do that supports becoming that person feels like a win and helps you keep going. Definitely worth a try! I have a long road ahead but it feels right this time 💕

I've been dealing with a sore tummy recently & my diet has been super plain and boring (hence my lack of posting) hehe but here is one from a week or two ago which screams Autumnal vibes 😍😍 Sidenote is it Autumn or Winter? I feel as though Winter doesn't start til the Soltice on 21st December BUT DASSJUSTME 💁 Anywayyyy... Here we have 1/2 a poached apple & pear (with soft spoonworthy sliceability) on a bed of #TurmericOats because ya gotta keep up the anti-inflammatory goodness erryday 😇 with none other than @meridianfoods MINCE PIE FILLING 🙌🙌🙌 It is back my friends!!!! I eat it by the spoon.. (maybe that's why I've had a sick tummy 😅 heheh) and some toasted Brazil nuts 😍 totally underappreciated, should be top of the nutty food chain.. & a drizzle of @bionaorganic agave 👅 ANYWAY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL MONDAY, CONGRATULATIONS ON BEING ALIVE 🙌 what a gift! 🌱 #mytastysoul at Dublin, Ireland

My healthy food shop from @tescoirl @aldi_ireland and my local healthfood store. 💚 I’m back on the nightshift this week so I’m well stocked up. 😅 I only drink Barry’s decaf tea when working nights (as I drink a lot of tea and I already don’t sleep great by day as it is 😶) but I much prefer my regular McGraths gold blend from Aldi. 😆 #foodshopping #groceries #wholefoods at Aldi

That‘s life, too. 🇬🇧That's life, too. I hope you had a great weekend! Do not use biscuits in the run up to Christmas? That has always been my absolute problem throughout the diets. Now that I find my inner voice slowly but surely, it is no problem to enjoy a few cookies. In the past everything was inhaled, because "everything does not matter anyway" and "I'm sure I'll eat biscuits for the last time". Do you also know these thoughts? Yessss Fiona exactly why diets are pointless. Repost from @fionawiller using @RepostRegramApp - Here is a Level A evidence statement (the highest possible level of certainty) from the Australian National Medical Health and Research Council (NHMRC - the government's health research arm) showing that weight regain is what is absolutely expected after intentional weight loss. For the majority. _____ "Weight loss following lifestyle intervention is maximal at 6-12 months. Regardless of the degree of initial weight loss, most weight is regained within a 2-year period and by 5 years the majority of people are at their pre-intervention body weight" _____ Those who do not regain weight are statistical outliers, even if they do publish pretty books and end up in front of our eyes and ears ALL THE DAMN TIME, and contribute to this misconception that lasting weight loss is available if people would only just try hard enough. Bodies don't work that way, no matter how some might wish they might. _____ Department of Health and Ageing, National Health and Medical Research Council, Clinical practice guidelines for the management of overweight and obesity in adults, adolescents and children in Australia, Melbourne 2013, p161 _____ https://www.nhmrc.gov.au/guidelines-publications/n57

Being anti-diet, non-diet or rejecting diet culture sometimes gets interpreted as a 'reverse diet', where food declared 'bad' by diet culture is placed on a pedestal, and foods seen as 'good' by diet culture are tossed out. If you're still looking through the lens of diet cutlure, the 'anti-diet' movement may be seen this way. When people 'give up diets' - it means they are leaving a prescriptive, rule-bound way of eating for a way of eating that is flexible and individual e.g. intuitive eating. All foods are welcome in this approach. If you like green smoothies, go for it! If you also like donuts, go for it. If you love your vege - amaze! Chocolate - sounds great to me! Enjoy your food, try new things, get curious! If you're a non-diet dietitian, tell me where you're from and introduce yourself for all in the comments 😊 . . #psychology #healthateverysize #stigma #mentalhealth #feminism #wellbeing #health #edrecovery #dietitian #diet #dietculture #bodyimage #bodypositivity #bopo #intuitiveeating #antidiet #nondiet at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Today I’m sharing a few more tips for STAYING SANE at Christmas! 🎄🎄⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ 1️⃣ Spend time with the people you love and enjoy being with. It’s ok to say NO to things you don’t want to do. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ 2️⃣ Keep blood sugar stable by eating regularly. Avoid over-hunger and you will be less likely to over-eat at the buffet spread. 3️⃣ Adopt a positive mindset and bring this optimistic and hopeful energy to your interactions. 4️⃣ If you are spending time with young children (your own or otherwise) pause to embrace the fun and wonder of Christmas through their eyes in the midst of the festive chaos. 5️⃣ Lower your expectations. Not everyone will get on. The food might get burnt. People won’t always love their gifts. It doesn’t matter. 6️⃣ Remember to see the funny side. Humour goes a long way to improving sanity. 7️⃣ Recognise your own cherished traditions and celebrate these rather than carrying on with rituals you feel obligated to do. 8️⃣ Acceptance, tolerance, patience and understanding are all underrated. Practise and practise some more. I know I need to!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️9️⃣ Take some time out for yourself. Go for a walk. Have some fresh air. Go and read your book for half an hour. You will feel refreshed for it. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🔟 Christmas day is only one day of the year. Keep this in perspective. There will be other opportunities to share time and create memories with your loved ones. 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄 Merry Christmas! 🌟🌟 at Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

1. Increase access and availability to different kinds of fruits and vegetables and present them in various ways. Eg, mashed potato, roast potatoes, chips etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Increase exposure to different foods. Research has found that it may take over 10 different exposures to a particular food for them to even try it, so be patient, encourage them to try but don’t pressure them, they will try them eventually. A child cannot learn to like something they are not exposed to. Repeat exposure to a food can decrease neophobia,⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ as liking increases with familiarity and the realisation that the food is safe.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Modelling behaviour from peers, siblings, parents. Research states that parental modelling is the most effective. A child seeing its family (people they trust) trying new foods is more likely to begin to trust their judgement and may be more likely to try the new foods.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. Eating dinner as a family (if possible). Studies have consistently found that the nine to 14-year-olds who ate dinner with their families most frequently consumed more fruits and vegetables. #health #healthy #kids #parenting #kidshealth #babies #child #parents #education #parentingtips #food #foodie #healthyfood #healthyliving #dietculture #haes #healthateverysize #studentdietitian #feminism # edrecovery #mentalhealth #dietculture #intuitiveeating #bopo #bodypositivekids #bodypositive #effyourbeautystandards #instakids #instaeducation #science

P I Z Z A 4 B R E A K F A S T🍕🤷🏼‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lol unfortunately I’m just kidding (but 100% no judgement if you’re having a ‘Pizza-for-breakfast-Monday). Personally not even pizza could replace my day 1 no. 1 (aka a big bowl of oats with PB 🥜😋) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, the pizza is not a total catfish - this ☝🏼 was my semi-unplanned dinner on Thursday night at the Bath Xmas Markets from @bathpizzaco🎄 Last week I fully embraced the foodie Xmas spirit (mince pies/pizza/all you can eat buffet/pizza/baileys hot-chic/mulled wine...the list could go on) which I enjoyed with friends and family and so naturally that #fitness life took a bit of a back seat 💺 #sorrynotsorry ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In previous years this might’ve left me feeling v “off plan” and scrabbling around in the dirt for what remained of my “healthy & clean routine”, Christmas2018 is already proving that I’ve come a long way with my relationship and balance around food and fitness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s natural to choose the less nutritious options around Xmas, it’s pretty hard to avoid so don’t beat yourself up about it. Remember that it’s only 1 month out of the whole year and a little bit of over-eating isn’t going to “destroy your physique” or make you a bad person. It’s not “cheating”, it’s life. Self Reminder: STAY INTUNE WTH UR BODY SHAYLA I’ve been forgetting to trust my body, I’ve been eating past the feeling of full and I’ve been under eating on other days. The first of the Christmas dinners, & can anyone guess what’s wrong with this picture...? 🤔 ~ If you think it’s that the veg is boiled rather than roasted you are indeed a person after my own heart, but you’re not right 🤷🏻‍♀️ ~ If you think it’s that there are no cocktail sausages on the plate then call me, we should definitely do coffee, & soon, but you’re still not right 🤦🏻‍♀️ ~ If you think it’s because nobody has three fists then ✅✅✅ ~ A serving of starchy veg (or rice, or pasta if you’re that way inclined) is fist sized. One fist. And that’s the size of YOUR fist. And - trust me on this one - you do not have fists the size of Finn McFreakin-Cool 🤨 ~ Obviously I didn’t eat all these spuds, but I did double up on veg. And the turkey/ham combo was most definitely worth writing home about 👌🏼 ~ #juliesays #9wholebites #bodysuccess #intuitiveeating #jerf #eattherainbow #guthealth #hearthealth #brainhealth #healthyfats #holisticnutrition #nourish #foodismedicine #wholefoods #antiinflammatory #sugarsucks #healthylifestyle #primal #bangorbythesea #whole30certifiedcoach #certifiednutritionist at Bangor, County Down

🌱 there’s a massive rise in people deciding to follow a vegan diet. Maybe for animal cruelty, improved health, better for the environment, or the secret reason that nobody mentions…. wanting to lose a bit of weight. . So is there any benefit? Whilst there is some research to suggest that following a vegan/vegetarian diet can be protective against heart disease and total risk of cancer we have to be mindful of a few other things too… . Those who follow a vegan diet tend to be more health conscious and practice other healthful behaviours such as moving more, eating more fruit and veg 🍇 🌽 , drinking less alcohol 🍷 , not smoking 🚬 etc. These benefit health regardless of other dietary factors and interfere with the data we have on vegan populations. . The studies on vegan populations are observational. This means they follow large groups of people over time and see what happens to their health. It would be impossible and unethical to tell 1 million people to go vegan for 10 years, and 1 million to eat meat 🥩 for 10 years and to see what happens. So this type of research is the best we have. . Following a vegan diet is difficult to do well. It requires careful attention and planning 📝 . It does not necessarily mean you will be eating a healthier diet or that you will lose weight (check out my latest blog post on ‘why diets don’t work’). You can eat the same food all day with no variety and call yourself vegan, so do make sure you are seeking the appropriate support to ensure you are incorporating a wide variety of foods to not risk deficiency. . 🏷 You don’t need to label yourself as anything. You do not need to go all out as one thing. From my experience with clients, jumping straight into being vegan is driving that all or nothing mentality that I frequently see in dieters which often fuels a negative relationship with food. You can certainly be more plant-based without going all out. You can start by choosing one meat free meal a week 🥘, and slowly reducing this to 2-3 meat free days a week and seeing how it feels. . My favourite resource for those interested in vegan diets is @theoriginalvegansociety They offer great insight into how to get started properly 💕

@theembodiedjourney

We don’t often see many fat eating disorder providers in this space, because the eating disorder space is still so littered with weight bias and fatphobia. As fat clinicians, this space can feel incredibly challenging, lonely and often unwelcoming. We literally have to fight for our right to be seen. We are always visible, but never seen. As someone who has worked in the eating disorder space for some time now, I have experienced so much fatphobia from colleagues, leading agencies and organisations; it’s ingrained. It’s in the workplace culture. It’s in the policies, the procedures, the language. It’s there, and when you’re a fat person, it’s glaringly obvious. The message stands – “you don’t belong here, your voice does not matter.” And when voices are raised, and challenges are put forward, reactions from people of privilege seem to be, “somebody please placate the fact person. Somebody please shut them up.” It’s frustrating, and hurtful, and at times, it’s broken me. What I have gained from this though, is the ability to know my worth, know my boundaries, and know that the collective voices of ALL people in bigger bodies deserve to be heard in this space. I have also realised that this is going to take an incredible amount of time, energy and work from our allies in this space. Whilst it absolutely pains me to say this, if you’re thin in an eating disorder space, your voice has more credibility and more clout. . . Fat people with eating disorders – I see you. I hear you. I am raising my voice for you. It simply astounds me that if our system can be so incredibly unwelcoming to fat providers, what messages are being sent externally. It’s time our eating disorder spaces stopped with the continuous narrative that seems to distance anybody who does not fit the stereotypical mould. It’s time we stopped raising the voices that have been raised so many times before. It’s time we started LISTENING to the lived experience of ALL people, not just some people. (Continued in comments)

HAPPY WEEKEND!👏🏼. . . For me this weekend is filled with projects on projects, so my breakfast is comin ya live from the library. Pretty much every Saturday since this internship started my fellow intern and I (shoutout to leannaclarkk) have been living in the study room at our local library. My focus is slim at home!📚. . . Here’s my small breakfast because I honestly wasn’t hungry when I woke up (which is odd for me). I slept in until about 8:30, laid in bed with my dog watching impractical jokers, and got moving around 10. Picked up the goods (siggisdairy) and added bunches of crunches granola and hemp seeds for a small yet filling breakfast! Of course with a side of coffee☕️. . . My point is that I am super proud of myself for listening to my body, telling me it needed rest and also not scarfing down my usually big and yummy breakfast just because I know I need fuel for a long library day. Instead, I packed EXTRA snacks 😉. I also turned off my usual “you need to eat within an hour of waking up” thought process. Some days you’re just not that hungry 🤷🏼‍♀️. #intuitiveeating rocks!🍫. . . . . #onthego #breakfast #siggis #bunchesofcrunches #futuredietitian #nutritiontips #easybreakfast #coffee #morningfuel #studysesh #dieteticintern #rdtobe #fiber #probiotics #nutrition #eatright #eatrightnj #cpt #fitness

Three easy ways to eat more mindfully, to allow your hunger to dictate your appetite and to make eating nutritious food a special and enjoyable experience... ☕️ Sit down and make a meal of it, serve your food on a plate and don’t eat on the run or when you’re doing anything else. ☕️ Slow down and chew. Not only does this allow you to register when you are full but will also aid digestion which starts in the mouth with the breakdown of food through chewing. This will help both the digestion and absorption of your yummy food. ☕️ Savour with all your senses the look, taste, smell and texture of your food. It’s a wonderful thing to eat and we have a huge range of foods we can choose from. Here to enjoy... ☕️ Happy Monday everyone! ☕️ #mindfuleating #intuitiveeating #positivethinking #focus #disorderedeating #disorderedeatingrecovery #bingeeatingrecovery #bingeeating #bingeeatingdisorderrecovery #eatingdisorder #overeating #overeatingrecovery #overeating #overeatingdisorder #nutritiontips at Ross On Wye

Happy monday everyone 😍 So I do have to admit that lately I have been reaching more to comfort food listening more to my emotional eating than biological hunger 🙏🏼 I feel that when things in my life don't go as planned, I become sloppy... 🤔 I don't have energy to clean the house or fold my clothes properly 👗 Working out comes on the backburner 🙊 I watch stupid/meaningless shows instead of sometimes also taking a good book 📖 I don't take much time to prepare a meal filled with nutrients that give me lots of energy 🥑 Instead I reach for "easy" food, not per se filled with nutrients, so my body does not like it in the long run 😖 I call myself an intuitive eater, however I do feel that sometimes you can be more motivated some times than other times. That is totally fine, as long as you realize it and keep listening to your body 🙏🏼 Do you relate to this or am I the only one 🙈 Let me know! Curious to know how you react on times like these 🤸🏼‍♀️ Have a great monday everyone 👏🏼 Oh btw: these foods are from my health retreat last April 😍 Interested for the next? Go check out: http://feelfantesstic.com/retreats/ or go to the link in my bio 🙏🏼 at Toulouse, France
