It is important to listen to our bodies and follow our gut. Sometimes rest doesn't seem logical, but the logical mind doesn't always know what is best.
You may have physical symptoms manifest such as migraines, head colds, nausea, etc. when you are pushing yourself forward but not taking the proper time to rest and care for yourself.
Work can wait. Tune in, notice the messages from your body before it becomes a full-blown issue, and rest properly. A day or two of rest can prevent bigger issues down the road.
We are humans, not machines.
Give yourself permission to rest.

I’ve personally been way too scared to properly rest. Afraid that I would fall into the usual trap of laziness and being truly unemployed.
But I forgot that in order to thrive I needed to rest and find a real work life balance (beyond the millennial tag line). You really cannot be your best without rest. Without it you’re just an unproductive zombie. So rest girl, rest then GO GIRL GO.

While a 7-8hr sleep may be elusive for some of us, it can be done. Fret not for some of these effective tips for you: Stay away from phones or tv 30mins before bedtime. Do some light reading or aromatherapy instead. So I’ve been mia for a week or so and the honest truth is, I’ve been chasing my tail. For those who don’t know me, I have a day job 3 days a week, private consultancy on one day and I lecture one night a week this time of year. I also have two kids under 3, both of whom think we’re subjects of a scientific experiment on sleep deprivation 🙄and I’m also trying to organise a fundraising event for #20kforkilimanj this Saturday. I’m a perfectionist and stay awake at night (when the kids aren’t roaring) thinking of all the things I need to get done. I have been beating myself up about not getting a chance to finish the anxiety topic, and feeling guilty every evening as I hop into bed exhausted. The truth is over the last couple of weeks I just have not had time to devote to doing it properly, and if I can’t cover it properly, I’d rather not do it at all because half arsed info isn’t useful! So, the moral of this story is I took a break here to devote myself to other things, (but not because I don’t want to be here, I’m loving it and I have some of the most lovely followers) and ITS OKAY TO NEED A BREAK! I’ll get to finish the topic once the Christmas brunch is over, nobody died, it’s okay! If you need a break, a rest, a walk, a cake or a glass of something fruity 🍷 go for it. Doing nothing means it’s time to rest an overstimulated brain.
A brain and heart that is always chasing for the next best thing.
And then our soul is lost and caught up in the exhaustion of what next?
Do nothing and rest.
It’s hard and it’s good to allow your heart, mind, body, & soul rest so you can be filled again in a different level of necessity.
So plan a day or week to do nothing.

I’ve been having some heinous vertigo. Which is why my OOTD and MOTD posts have been slacking. It’s also why I’ve been out of work this week (though I tried going a half day yesterday), which means I battle the guilt I always feel when calling out. Exercise is a big trigger for my anxiety. If I’m moving regularly, I tell myself I’m on track and doing well. If I have to skip the gym because I’m busy or tired, it can feel like a moral failing. I hear that controlling voice saying I have to try harder or be more disciplined. I recognize this as disordered thinking. Especially because there’s a lot to do with body image tied up in it. I’m working on trusting my body when it tells me rest is the most kind thing I could for it in that moment.

I started the week of great! I had no PEM over the weekend from work last week and while I was quite brain foggy on Monday, I was able to go to my helpline volunteer shift with my energy remaining relatively stable all day.
BUT THEN.... I woke up yesterday with sore inner ears and a sore throat. I often wake up with a sore throat but it usually clears by midday. However, this time it didn’t and the inner ear pain made me realise that I am most likely getting sick... 😩
So I called into work to cancel for today and only did the bare minimum yesterday. I flooded my body with water and lots of immune boosting foods and teas, in the hope I would catch the virus in time before it gets worse!
Good news is, I think I did!! 🎉 I’m feeling quite fatigued today, so just resting a lot again, but the ear and throat pain is basically non-existent.
I know I’ve rambled quite a bit but my point is, if I hadn’t done only what I could yesterday and today, I probably would have gotten the full-blown virus that would have wiped me out for 2 weeks like last time.
Instead I made sure to give my body what it needed to recover, even if that meant saying no to work and other plans! And while I was quite annoyed I was getting “normal” sick on top of chronic illness sick, I am very grateful for the decisions I’ve made I’ve the last two days!
So this is your reminder to only do what you can! Your mind and body will thank you 🙏🏻 ☺️

My back really let me down today.
I really need to remember that it's okay to rest sometimes. Really loved wearing my @fabactivewear long sleeved crop though, kept me warm but lasted about 10 mins as body sculpting yoga really warms you up!

Sometimes it’s okay to sit on the floor and eat yogurt out of the container. It’s okay if the house isn’t perfect. .
We all have those “off” days. If someone says they don’t; they are lying. .
Mom’s carry enough worry and weight around on a daily basis. When we have an off day, or we are sick or even just have a migraine we can’t shake, the last thing we need is someone telling us how they can do it better, or even the eye roll invalidating our feelings. .
Mamas; you are enough. You are doing great. You are allowed to have an off day. Let the laundry go unfolded, eat finger foods and watch movies with the kids in pajamas, in the middle of the day, and don’t worry about that rude, nosey friend or family member who always has something to say about how you do things. .
Maybe they have never had a migraine or sick day and genuinely can’t understand what it is like to carry the weight and responsibility of kids, housework and all that goes with running a household. How nice for them. We can be happy for them and let their misunderstanding go and focus on our family and feeling better. ❤️
