Restez actif! #kinweek #withakinyoucan #SemainedeKin #avecunkintupeux #unkinalaide #sport #activitephysique #diabetes

Why choose movement over medicine? Working with a kinesiologist can reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes by 50%, and can be twice as effective as treating the condition with standard insulin. Find out more about disease prevention and management at #KinWeek. #WithAKinYouCan

Part 3 of looking at the ParticipACTION report card for Physical Activity for Adults! Today’s topic is A) Muscle and Bone Strengthening and B) Balance There was limited data available to assess Canadian’s achievement of muscle and bone strengthening and balance guidelines. And so, ParticipACTION gave a grade of ‘INC’ meaning inconclusive. This doesn’t mean that these 2 topics are not important. In fact, they are very important! Especially as we get older. Muscle and Bone Strengthening 💪- Canadian guidelines recommend muscle strengthening activities at least 2x/week to increase muscle strength and endurance! Building the strength of your muscles and bones can decrease the risk of falls as well as the risk of breaking a bone. You might be thinking, how do you strengthen your bones??? As a #kinesiologist I can help you out! In easy terms - weight bearing exercises, such as walking, jumping; ⛹️‍♀️and exercises that make the muscles pull on the bones, such as weight lifting 🏋️‍♂️can help to build up bone! Building bone strength is especially important with respect to #osteoporosis . Balance - Canadian physical activity guidelines for older adults recommend those with poor mobility to perform physical activity to enhance #balance and prevent falls. Balance training is important to start BEFORE your mobility has declined! Balance is a part of each program I design! You can start with standing with your feet together. Feeling steady? Try closing your eyes. Did that make it a bit more challenging? Want something a bit more challenging? Try standing on one foot, maybe close your eyes, without tapping your foot down, lean forward and extend your leg behind you; can you hold that? 🧘‍♀️ Do you or someone you know need to work on balance or strengthening? Connect with me and let’s get started on your journey to a more balanced and strong body! 💪 https://www.participaction.com/en-ca/resources/adult-report-card #kinesiology #mobilekinesiologist #participACTION #strengthening #fitness #wellness #fallprevention #seniorwellness #kinweek #withakinyoucan #exercise #kwawesome #wrawesome #kitchener #waterloo #exerciseismedicine

It's Kinesiology Week in Canada, so what better time to briefly explain what a Kinesiologist does? Kinesiologists are body mechanics and movement experts. This is highly important to improving function and pain, as typically the two are related in terms of poor function results in pain patterns. Kinesiologists are able to decipher inefficient patterns in the body, breakdowns in function, and compensatory patterns that are occurring. They are then able to use a combination of hands on, instrument modalities, and exercise therapy to reverse these inefficiencies, restore optimal movement patterns, and allow the body to recover from injuries and pain. Kinesiologists are key members of the treatment model, helping recover from soft tissue injuries, post-operation, return to work programs, and concussion and brain injury rehabilitation. NOTE: The exercise therapy that Kinesiologists use is not high intense, performance and athletic based exercise. It is carefully researched, function based movements and activation patterns to aid the body in recovering. Not to say that a Kinesiologist couldn't prescribe a high quality, efficient performance based training program! #kinweek #cka #bcak #kinesiology #humankinetics #kinsa #exercisetherapy #exercise #langley #langleybc #discoverdowntownlangley #downtownlangley #willoughby #walnutgrove #physio #wellness #health #canada #therapy #rehab

It's Kinesiology Week!⠀ Meet Fany Morneault, a kinesiologist working out of our Driscoll location who earned her degree from Université de Moncton in 2013⠀ She likes that through kinesiology she is helping people reach their goals. The feeling of success when a client is able to have a better quality of life or return to an old activity they used to do is really hard to beat.⠀ She likes giving educational sessions giving her clients advice on different goals they can work on to have a better quality of life. She also likes to do functional tests and working on body mechanics with clients.⠀ @fanymorno @lalumni#Kinesiology #KinesiologyWeek #KinWeek #UMoncton

It is National Kinesiology Week. Nov 14 is also World Diabetes Day. We know that sedentary behaviour (I.e. all the sitting around that we do) contributes to Type 2 Diabetes. We have had a short week in PEI so I encourage you, for these 4 days, to do two things; 1. Stand up at least once every half hour 2. Take a 15 walk during your lunch or break time (or so some standing based exercises, movement, stretching) Tag a friend or coworker to join you. #cdnkinesiology #kinweek #healthandsafety #moveyourbody #kinpei #kinesiology #ergonomics #employeewellness
