Does your Knee Collapse during squats? Valgus Knees or Knee Collapse is the common term that is used to describe the particular form that is shown in the video. This is a very common problem which many of us faces while doing squats. It might happen in either ascent or descent phase. Let us understand the reason for it: -It might be because of the weak glutes. Our Glutes muscles are powerful abductors. If these muscles are weak & load is imposed on it. They fail to keep the knees out. As a result of which the knees fall inward. -Lack of Ankle mobility may also collapse your knees inward while doing a heavy back squat. -While executing squat you must assure to use three points of contact (tripod foot) i.e to spread the whole sole of the foot on the floor creating a solid stable base with 3 points of contact. This provides more stability to ankle & prevents knee collapsing. -Too wide stance or toes pointing forward rather than slightly pointing outwards may lead to this problem. Here are a few exercises suggested in the video which will help you to strengthen your Glutes & hip adductors. If knee inward caving happens regularly during your squat, then care should be taken in correcting it. 8 months post ACL-surgery with Dr. X at @emorysportsmedicine and I just ran the @atlantatrackclub 10 mile race. I finished in 1:40:47 with an average pace of 10:05 minutes per mile, faster than I ran the Peachtree 10k in July! This would have been a good time for me pre-injury, so really proud all my hard work rehabbing my knee with @phurley2015 paid off. My knee feels great! If you want to get strong after ACL surgery I highly recommend trying out the @onepeloton bike or the app with a stationary bike. 15 # PR on the POWzed Bench Press w/ 385. Everything felt really good. Only thing I did differently was wear the old school Nike Shox, which I don’t particularly like, but wore them because they have a grippy sole. Left my usual Bench shoes at work. Could they have helped? Also @kczaum hit a badass super grind on his heaviest set 💪. Hit some tNg Bench with chains for volume work. Then did Rope Pressdowns, Rope Facepulls, Cable Shoulder Abduction, Fat Bar Pressdowns and Dead Hang Knee Raises and Cable Swings for Abs. Did all auxiliary and Ab stuff within about 25 minutes. Trying to do my extra stuff faster, as due to the knee my cardio is limited to the bike. Which I did afterwards and almost threw up cause I’m out of shape. I want to ride all the bikes and have all the adventures without being fearful. The reality of my situation isn't black and white. I spent 95% of 2019 inside on zwift @GOZWIFT. This year was the first year I've accumulated the most km's ever since owning my road bike and my fitness is getting stronger. Being on blood thinners makes me conscious of decisions but not a prisoner. I make it work with what I CAN do. This is the safest for me. So I choose not to go outside most times but for me it's safest for now. But it's true, nothing beats sun on your skin and wind in your face. I think #zwift is absolutely incredible for those with issues that restrict them from riding outside. I also think it's incredible for off season training and training in general. Go ride and have fun. Don't let your bike sit in a corner because of fear. Overcome your barriers within your means.

Really nice two miles this evening. I didn’t expect to be able to run at this pace following yesterday’s running, but I took two ibuprofen before I started and it seems to have done the trick. I took a few breathers to stretch, but my knees felt 80% alright. Tomorrow’s a rest day as I’m lecturing all day and I’ll be back in the gym on Tuesday

If you have a friend or relative with an illness or disability that isn’t obvious, you may think you’re doing the right thing by telling them they look good. You can’t even tell the person has a disability, and that’s a good thing, right? Wrong. That phrase can be taken in multiple ways. Most of the time I choose to take it as a compliment, but I also feel as though it very often undermines my symptoms. In fact, to comment on a person’s appearance dictates, intentionally or not, that they’re expected to feel the way they look –– just fine. But looking good and feeling good are two very different things, and the impact of a disability or illness is as much psychological as it is physical. Even on a day where I manage to move around, I’m still in pain — it’s just less pain than when I’m stuck in bed. I literally am in pain 24/7, the only variable is the severity. This is an incredibly difficult and private thing to talk about, and if I don’t know you, I’m not going to open up to you about the fear and uncertainty my condition brings, nor the shame I feel because I’m not the relative, partner or friend I wish I could be. I’m not going to tell you about the grief I feel for the life I could have if I didn’t have to manage my pain on an hourly basis, nor about how my latest flare had me sat on a sidewalk for half an hour wishing out loud for it to calm down. Instead, I’m going to cover all of that stuff up and act the way I so desperately wish I was –– just fine. We urgently need more awareness around invisible illnesses, and this starts with YOU. If you know someone with a chronic condition, do not assume they’re doing well just because they put on a brave face. Do the research –– understand what their condition means and imagine life through their eyes in order to learn how to best support them. Until we more towards better empathising with those with invisible conditions, the load will always fall on those suffering. If we feel ill or in pain, we will always be the ones that have to justify our need for help as we ask for it, and we will always have to shout louder for our needs to be met. We should never expect those suffering to carry that load alone.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ recent knee injury brings up the topic of patella dislocation and patellofemoral instability. In the video clip, you can see Mahomes’ leg being extended by the trainer/physician while the patella (kneecap) is reduced (popped back into position). This is usually quite uncomfortable for the patient, but results in immediate relief of pain. Most first-time patella dislocations can be treated conservatively (without surgery) with a relatively good prognosis and a low risk of redislocation (roughly 5%). • • • • • • • • • • • • Most athletes will return to play after 4-6 weeks of physical therapy which will focus on strengthening of the medial structures (ex. VMO) and proprioception. • • • • • • • • • • • • Mahomes’ MRI following the injury was described as “the best case scenario.” This likely means that he did not suffer an osteochondral injury during the dislocation. In some cases, when the patella “jumps the curb” during the dislocation, a piece of cartilage (with or without underlying bone) can be knocked off either the patella or the femur. When this occurs, surgery is often indicated to either “fix” this piece of cartilage or remove the free-floating “loose body” from the knee joint. This was not the case in Mahomes’ injury, making a quicker recovery more likely. • • • • • • • • • • • • Recurrent dislocations of the patella is known as patellofemoral instability. This depends largely on the patient’s bony geometry; “normal” geometry keeps the patella centered in the femoral trochlea and has a low risk of redislocation. However, a flattened trochlea (known as “trochlear dysplasia”) or a kneecap that sits higher than normal (known as “patella alta”) are abnormalities that will increase a patient’s risk of redislocation or recurrent instability. There is exaxtly 1year difference between upper(today) and lower photo - my split is better but I dont’t consider it a progress at all. I’d rather name it total regress! ☹️ Here some explanation: Today I am still recovering from serious knee injury, during surgery they’ve cut piece of my knee flexors tendon to transform it into acl graft, my right leg muscles became weaker due to limited movement of the leg right after injury and than also after surgery (because I had to protect my stitched meniscus). If you scroll right on 3rd picture you can see my split on not injured side - i don’t have enough power in right (back leg) to maintain hips eaqual not to mention going deeper into position. Pictures 4th and 5th show that differece between my legs before accident was minimal (yet i always felt more comfortable with my right leg in the front). Having an injury can be really isolating. For me the hardest part has been the mental aspect and feeling disconnected from those close to me. Not done stone over yoke before, but since it's reared it's ugly head for England's qualifiers, it's time to give it a go. Today was all about trying different techniques and working out positioning (kept ending up too close to the bloody yoke and scraping the skin off my hands or smacking my head lol) The biggest achievement though is the fact, I was able to properly lap the stone! Leon at @bodyfitsportstherapy had done deep oscillation on me the day before, and it really worked wonders on my knee and legs in general. A little post workout glow ✨ my knee has been feeling pretty weak lately so I opted for my chair this morning to get my upper body done. I’m getting a new brace on Tuesday that I’m really not looking forward too, it’s going to force my leg to be straight- something I’m not able to comfortably do myself. I’m also going for a bone scan towards the end of next week which should clarify whether I truly have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. If it turns out I do, I’ll be referred to a pain management specialist for synthetic nerve block injections to help alleviate some of my pain and discomfort. I walked for 25 minutes to the gym to try and stretch my legs before running but it didn’t help. The pain in my left knee was too much to endure today so I split my 5K into two runs. I don’t think it’s ever been this bad and I’m limping home. I’m trying 250mg of Naproxen as an anti inflammatory to try and make it bearable until my next physio appointment in two weeks

So that didn’t go to plan... last week at the half I picked up a knee injury of some description just after mile 10 (I say ‘of some description’ as I know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing so the only confidently accurate description I could give it is ‘fucking painful’ 😅) but I was adamant I was not going to walk any of it so I ran the last 3 and a bit miles through the pain, albeit a little slower than the first 10 and have given it six days no running. My plan today was for my favourite type of run, long and steady, taking in the pretty countryside, with a 10 mile route planned... I did 3km before it hurt too much and I had to walk home ☹️ never mind! The walk allowed me to take some pretty pictures at least.. Gonna get some swimming done instead but if anyone has any tips throw them my way cause I enjoyed last week so much I’ve signed up to some more races so it needs to go haha 😬
