Preseason is well and truly upon us, good to be around the girls again πŸ˜‚ You'll be seeing a lot of footy spam from me! It was pissing rain so I just did some stationary kicking and handballs and one run through of the drill above, just happy to be back out there! Also need to buy new contacts lenses I have no idea where I have put mine its been so long haha

Last time I posted my legs it was week 9, at week 20 my right leg is definitely gaining muscle faster than old leftie. I should measure my quads but they look relatively similar. I just need to keep working and build muscle especially in my non existent calf! Saw my physio today. Only a couple new physio exercises, one being skipping. Physio is super happy with how I'm progressing, I have been doing a lot of new stuff at strength and conditioning that I probably would have been given as exercises today. Upping my strength and conditioning to 3 times a week starting tomorrow, I know its super hot today but today was the first time I sweated like I did pre injury and I loved it! The comebacks gonna be great! 😁πŸ’ͺ

Been busy the last couple of days so I haven't been to the gym. I've had a week of going through the motions but I like using Sunday as my reset day. I taped a couple exercises: Single leg assisted squats: left leg (operated) first, then the right. I have a long way to go! Squats with 30kg with and without shoes. I liked it without the shoes. Struggled with the squats today but got through them. Happy Sunday 😁🌞

9.5 weeks post op. Summers starting to pop up everyso often. Last night was lovely swimming in the outdoor pool at 6pm! Starting to get back into normal activities. I’m now getting the train to work once a week. I am currently swimming (arms only) twice a week I am also doing a lower limb rehab class with @risehg once a week. And once a week I do an hour of pilates Plus Physio It’s definitely full on. I finally taped the deadlifts, they feel good. I dont feel natural doing them, I'm going through the steps in my head haha so I feel like a robot but I can definitely feel them in my hamstrings! Today was hamstrings and upper body, I got through half my upper body workout but tweaked my shoulder trying to pull a resistance band down to put my foot in for assisted pullups. Shoulder feels fine now, I must have cramped up or something but decided to cut the workout short for today.

5 months down 7 to go! πŸ‰ Footy preseason starts next week and I'm probably the most excited because I can finally participate in a couple of the drills. Ive never missed doing a lap around the oval with the girls like I have throughout this injury but I can finally join in the jog which probably doesnt sound like much but it means so much to me! This recovery is so isolated and though I have no problem working out by myself, I'm looking forward to training with my friends and not thinking twice about the exercise I am doing. I'm looking forward to smashing through the month ahead! My upper body strength is slowly increasing as well as lower body strength. I'm also excited to tackle all things around change of direction/acceleration/deceleration. But before that I'm going to put a lot of attention into my single leg exercises because I dont like where I'm at with those. I know I have 7 months to go but I sometimes feel like I'm running out of time to fit all my exercises and progress in, which is kind of ridiculous because 7 months is so freakin long! I'm just trying to be the best version of myself! 2017 was meant to be my year but it is just setting me up for a bigger and better 2018! Still as motivated as ever! Your health is your wealth so put the time in! From good to great!!! πŸ’ͺ😁

First jog on a treadmill in foreverrrr! Not my most favourite piece of equipment but I will embrace it for the sake of my rehab and it will come in handy when its raining. Im not allowed to do sprinting on it yet so this is the first step. Half of the time was spent picking a song to run too but the numbers dont matter, what matters is I got through with no knee pain at all and I wasnt puffed at all which was awesome! Happy sunday! 🌞😁

If you are reading this and you know how to squat tell me if my form is ok! πŸ˜‚ I've never done squats until this injury. It feels good and I plan to go heavier next week to 30-35kg but I hope my form is ok.. besides me losing balance a bit on the first one πŸ™„ Leg workout today consisted of: Stretching/Mobility (foam roller, resistance bands, stretching) 10 minutes on the bike. Single leg assisted squats 2Γ—10 each leg. Squats 4Γ—8 at 25kg. Leg press 2Γ—10 at 60kg/single leg 2Γ—10 at 30kg. Lunges with resistance band 2Γ—10. Calf raises 4Γ—10 I use what DBs are available but between 6-10kg. Hamstrings: Glute bridge 2Γ—10. Single leg glute bridge 2Γ—10. Swiss ball curls 1Γ—10. Elevated glute bridge altering my foot position 5-8Γ—2 (I struggle a bit with these) KB row 2Γ—10. Single leg bosu ball balance. Bosu squats 1Γ—10 each side. Bosu lunges 1Γ—10 each side. Stretching and mobility and foam roll. Dead. But I feel GREAT and its getting fun increasing the weights and really feeling my workout the next day :)

I hate rest days but I know they are important in the long run. I aim for 1-2 rest days a week. If my body needs more I take more. But my rest days consist of: Foam rolling Reading Icing Balance Board Hydration Vitamin E for soft tissue massage And my favourite, the little spiky ball aka satan 😈 . Would love to know if anyone does something different! My legs are dead today haha time to freshen up and get back to it tomorrow!

I forgot to tape my running but im allowed to sprint up to 85-90% (whatever that may be). . Here are a few exercises I did at strength and conditioning the other day. Camera work is 10/10 πŸ• Lots of balancing and working on my mechanics for jumping, I used a resistance band around my knees when I first did them to stop them caving in as it seems I do it a lot! Other exercises I do (supervised) are step ups with a resistance band around my knee and my partner holding the other end and lunges with a resistance band around my front knee. Ill try tape some of this stuff soon! I hope I'm allowed to do this stuff but I feel confident doing it :) @preston_physiotherapy

I usually head to the gym with my workout in my head knowing what I have to do. I have found I leave the single leg squats till the end of my workout and 9 times out of 10 I dont do them and I really need to focus on those cause I suck at them! Its a new week, a new mindset and I have started pre planning my workouts and writing them down, mainly to keep myself accountable to finish my workouts completely. Day 2 of doing this and I have done absolutely everything I set out to do, seeing it written down makes me stubborn to want to tick off each exercise haha 😁πŸ’ͺ

Yesterday I got to meet an awesome strength and conditioning coach for the western bulldogs womens team and he focus' a lot on the brain. One of the things he has told me to do with a pin is to prick at my skin around my incision and where it is numb just to get some sensation back (I'm not going to stab myself obviously) Also to use an ice cube around my skin as well to get used to different sensations and to start massaging where the incision is with bio oil to break up scar tissue. I really dont like doing this type of stuff cause it grosses me out to touch my scar haha but I'll do whatever to get the feeling back. So excited to tackle this week and every other week after, I'm feeling insanely motivated!

As the recovery goes on and I'm getting loaded up with lots of new exercises I've found I have been neglecting the basics I had begun with. My knee sometimes feels stiff so I'm going to focus on my stretching and mobility again and make sure I do it throughout the rest of the kneehab daily. But really excited to be progressing to lower body 1 on 1 strength and conditioning and getting my mechanics right for box jumps in the coming weeks. Hopefully I can video some of this stuff but I will be focusing a lot on balance, getting my knee comfortable in uncomfortable positions and all round confidence in my leg. Exciting times, can't wait for my comeback!!! 😁πŸ’ͺ

Workout today was what I like to describe as 'meh' I wasnt feeling it, the gym was a bit busy so I didnt do the deadlifts but im doing strength and conditioning on friday so I will ask how to do them properly there :) . 1 new exercise I got was the above hopping, imagine me hopping on a cross when I do it. First hops are on my operated leg second on my right. I notice my knee caved in a bit on my right knee so I'll have to focus on that. Also my balance has been terrible today! Also didn't do my new hamstring exercises but the day is young, I might do them later, I might not..stay tuned! (Im not gonna do them πŸ’©)

A week ago I had my 6 week post op appointment with the surgeon. He cleared me from crutches (after being on them for three months!) and allowed me to take off the brace. He also gave me the all clear to start strengthening it. Monday I have my first rehab class at my Physio. Which I’m pretty excited about. I also got cleared to hop back on the bike again after my knee swelled up the first time and I had to take a break. Day 65: a few weeks ago I won a little giveaway with @theaclclub for sharing my rehab crutch. It’s no secret that it’s my hubby @bri_tait. He has picked me up, dusted me off and sent me back on track every time I’ve fallen apart. I’ve relied on him for everything, from helping me climb in and out of the shower, to cooking and cleaning and bringing everything upstairs to me in bed, to giving me the cuddles because I couldn’t lie on my side to cuddle him, driving everywhere, wiping up my tears, listening to me scream and shout and never invalidating how I feel, and dragging my lazy and unmotivated ass to the gym to get my rehab done and to keep my upper body strong. I would have done it on my own, but it was a lot easier with him here to share the burden and to take care of things when I wasn’t compus mentus. Thanks to him, and to The ACL club, now I have a little refocus band to remind me that β€œabsolutely everything is progress” which is exactly what I need to see every single day. It’s hard to feel like I’m getting better when I’m still so far from where I want to be, but there’s so much damn progress. As of today I’m starting single legged multidirectional hopping several weeks ahead of schedule. Diligent prehab and stubborn rehab is paying off. 7 days post knee reco op! Never been so eager to defy all odds and get back on my feet sooner then expected and especially on that playing field. Strengthening and trying to activate my quads to help support my knee again. As you can see i still have a slight bend in my knee when raising it which compensates the pain and weakness in the quads. The goal is to keep it as straight as possible which ultimately means its being supported by the quad ☺. At 12 weeks I was cleared to start implementing light running & jumping exercises into my rehab. I waited a few days to try it out as my confidence was very low. Here is my first time in 8 months trying jogging & jumping. First time jogging I had a bit of pain in my knee every time my foot connected to the ground, I did this multiple times and each time it felt better & better, and my confidence increased every time. I didn't want to stop running, it felt amazing I only took this first video I wish I took one at the end of this session. At the end of this session I felt so good. My jumping and landing has a long way to go, I'm shifting majority of my weight onto my left leg when I'm landing out of fear for my right knee.. I do get a bit of pain when doing the single leg jumps hence why I can't completely land on my right leg and hold it. Hopefully it won't be too long until I can achieve this. @jessicalea17 at Grant Reserve

4 months down 8 to go! πŸ‰ . Starting to feel somewhat back to normal especially considering I'm allowed to do so much more with my knee. . Staying cautious but very diligent with my exercises. . . Check out my new exercises. I look so precious running and doing the side to side leaps hahaha 20m jog into a 50m sprint at 70% back to a 20m jog (was defs not sprinting at 70% haha) Leaps with an emphasis on height. Side to side leaps. . My hamstring is pretty sore from my workout on Tuesday but thought I'd still give my new workout a go, kind of forget you have a grade 3 hamstring tear as well! . I'm trying to find my balance between 'no pain no gain' and 'you had major knee surgery so pain isnt always the greatest' πŸ’ͺ😁

First time upside down since I destroyed my knee in July. Nearly 6 weeks post op and feeling much better this week than last. Swelling has gone down a fair bit, range of motion has come back and I’m almost walking normally pain free. I get pain occasionally but its nothing too bad. Received some pretty devastating news from the doctor today. I have torn both my anterior and medial ligaments and also the meniscus cartilage within my knee which means I need to have a knee reconstruction. This absolutely breaks my heart as I had my heart set on competing again in April but sooking about that isn't going to benefit me mentally or physically. Today was the first day I increased my squat weight. I was doing 15kgs and was doing extra sets as I was afraid my form would be bad and I couldnt go as deep but I tried the 20kg today and still got through 2 sets of 10 and easily could have done more. I legit never lifted weights before this injury. All my exercise was footy training, football and basketball games πŸ‰πŸ€ . Im actually really enjoying doing weights and going to the gym with more of a purpose. I'm looking forward to being able to lift heavier weights, but for now im spongebob 😁πŸ’ͺπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ

Yesterday was a huge day for me. I graduated from my Bachelor degree which was super exciting. In terms of rehab I haven’t been doing much over the past couple of days. I pulled up pretty sore after Physio and the 10 minutes I spent in the bike. So I’ve been taking it easy. This is my first real set back, after feeling super great and to be walking pretty confidently to struggling again is pretty disheartening. But it’s all part of the process. Got cleared by my Physio last night to start riding the bike. I’m still only allowed 90* flexion so it made it very tricky. I felt like such an idiot at the gym as I sat there making as many grunting noises as the guy on the bike next to me who was in the middle of an intense work out. I’m now at 4* extension. Getting closer to full extension every day! It was good to be back in the gym after 10 weeks off!! Trip to the physio today got me strapped with some kinesio tape for some extra stability and probably peace of mind! This was to assist me with my running as its probably been my biggest hurdle so far and if you know me you know I freak out and overthink any bit of pain when it comes to this injury haha But its a new day and I went for a light jog on grass and had next to no pain which was pleasing. In knee we trust (not really) 😊🌞

Speedy speedster on my two legs. I made a goal with myself to walk unaided at home by this weekend and I got there. Rehab is really slow at the moment. Not a lot I can do because of my torn meniscus. My gait is still restricted, but hopefully as my range of motion and strength increase that will too. Im trying to remember my progress from here onwards will probably be subtle. I know I have come so far but It still feels like im miles away from where i want to be. The important thing is I did get out of bed and I went and did some hydrotherapy. Knee is feeling a bit average today so I have iced and stayed off it as much as possible.

Trip to the gym today to do my jogging and jumping exercises. My knee got pretty sore after the jumps so I didnt attempt the jogging. I always listen to my body when its telling me not to do something but I must admit I have had next to no pain doing majority of my exercises so far. I think my knee is trying to get used to more impact. Had to make the most of my trip to the gym though, so here's my juggling haha PB of 75, I'm aiming for 100. Gotta keep my hand eye coordination sharp.

#loveyourknees what do I love about my knees? I love the opportunity to turn my limitations into my strengths! Im always chipping away working on my balance and stability. I have been juggling with 3 balls on a flat surface so I can eventually incorporate it onto the wobble board..but first I need to learn to look up when I'm on the board! I could barely stay up for half a second when I first started but I think im getting better 😁 @jennactive
