How do we know the exercises we chose is the most effective for the muscles we're trying to target? Let's break it down quick and simple!! 👇 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🗯 The easiest way to understand which muscle/muscles you're targeting in a certain exercise is to look at your joints and how they're moving during the exercises. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣ Straight lifts. You're only moving your hip joint here and that means your targeting hamstrings and glutes (back also ofc). When you extend your hip joint like this your quadriceps is not involved and therefor not working. Exercise examples: 🔺Rope pull through 🔺Straight deadlifts 🔺Good Mornings 🔺Hyperextensions 2️⃣ Hip Thrusters. If you look closely you'll see that I'm moving my hip joint very much but only a slightly change in my knee joint angle. This means I'll get almost all focus on my glutes and hamstrings. 🔺Hip Thrusts 🔺Glute Bridges 🔺Donkey Kicks 🔺Most variations of kickbacks 3️⃣ Squats. Here you're moving your ankles, knees and hips which make you hit your calves, hamstrings, glutes and quads. 🔺Lunges 🔺Step-ups 🔺Squats 🔺Leg Press 🔺Deadlift ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4️⃣ Sissy squat. Hit some legs today Moving away from focusing on heavy squats as I get deeper into comp prep. Main focus is getting good muscle contractions so hitting all my isolation movements first. SUMO ELEVATED DB DEADLIFTS🔥🍑 . Wanting to build your hamstrings and glutes, you must add this into your next lower body workout. . Find yourself 2 steps and elevated them. . Grab a comfortable weight . . Set yourself in a sumo stance position , with your toes slightly turned out. . Pick up the weights with a neutral spine, and insure to engage your core. . Do a double pulse at the bottom, and drive your heels into the ground and squeeze the shit out of your glutes. 🍑 . It’s a killer after a few sets. Try do 4x10 reps , doing a double pulse. 🍑 . Yoga tips 😇💙🙏 .💯 Uttanasana not only heals but also rejuvenates your body. In this asana, your head is below the heart, and this allows for blood circulation in your head instead of your feet, giving your cells a rush of energizing oxygen. Rest your hands on your hips, exhale, and bend forward from the hip joints rather than the waist. Draw your belly slightly in and focus on lengthening your front torso as you go deeper in Uttanasana. Instructions: Keeping your knees straight, place your fingertips or palms on the floor beside your feet, or touch the back of your ankles with your palms. To modify this movement, cross your forearms and hold your elbows. To help tone your thighs, press your heels into the floor, lift your sit bones toward the sky, and turn the tops of your thighs slightly inward. Let your head hang loose, releasing all tension in your back and shoulder blades. Try lengthening the front torso a little bit more on each inhale. On each exhale, release fully into the bend. Stay in this posture for 30 seconds to 1 minute. To come out of Uttanasana, bring your hands back to your hips and rotate at the hip joints until you stand strong and tall. Do not simply roll your spine up. Beginners Tip: As a beginner, it might be hard to increase the stretch. To make it easier, gently bend your knees, and imagine the sacrum sinking deep into the back part of the pelvis. Now, decrease the distance between your tailbone and the pubis. As you feel the resistance, push the top part of your thighs back and press your heels down. Straighten your knees. But be sure you don’t lock your knees when you straighten them. Modifications: -Place yoga blocks under the hands. Additional benefits: -This bend gives your digestive organs a good massage, thereby improving digestion. -Relieves tension in the spine, neck, and back. -Activates the abdominal muscles. -Therapeutic for infertility, osteoporosis, and sinusitis. cc: @yoga_healers
