WHY do you train? Early on for me it was to look better. And that’s fine to get you started. But some people never move past that as their motivation. And it tends not to be enough when the going gets tough. You’ve gotta really dig deep. They say β€œyour why should make you cry.” And for me I really found that when I became a parent. I don’t train to have big biceps. I don’t train to have six pack abs. I train so that if someone tries to hurt my kid I can fucking rip them in half. Haha maybe overdramatized there but often it’s just me and him. I have to be able to protect him no matter what. How would that feel if your kid runs into a parking lot and you couldn’t run up to catch him?? I’ll be damned if I let a lack of fitness stop me in any area of life but ESPECIALLY this one. I love lifting heavy, but I especially love functional training. That is, training that mimics real world situations. No dig to bodybuilders, but if someone tries to hurt you or your kid, are you just gonna bicep curl your way out????? . What is functional training to me? I’m always training in assymetrical, unstable positions where my core is being challenged. I sneak core training into every exercise I do. . The real world isn’t a pretty, perfectly symmetrical place. Train to make yourself prepared for anything that gets thrown at you. Need help getting started? This morning was one of those days, mainly for my top set. Training in the morning and being at a different gym definitely impacted my energy, strength and mindset today but I got all the work done. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” Am I overly critical of my technique, yup! I tend to pick things apart a lot and this top set of 205lbs x3, wasn’t what I wanted it to be. Depth in rep 1 was questionable, rep 2 was good but not as powerful as I wanted coming back up, and my bracing breath was too shallow for rep 3 that I could feel the loss in tension 2/3rds of the way down. My hips shot up a bit, and bar path ended up shifting forward. I am happy that my back stayed neutral though. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” I may be obsessive and very hard on myself but I learn, and see the areas I need to work on each and every training session. 8 weeks out from @usapowerlifting raw Nationals and here's what I'm now calling my mini meet day of training because I have all three lifts. Shown here Squat at 210 for 4 and an 8 RPE. I did 141207 which consisted of a 1000 meter row, 50 40-lb dumbbell snatches, 750 meter row, 35 40-lb dumbbell snatches and a 500 meter row with 20 40-lb dumbbell snatches. Rough night last night. I don’t drink very often, but when I do I’m reminded of why I don’t drink often...abs looking like a washboard though so that’s pretty cool. Before I went out though I hit back pretty solidly. Tried some new stuff out. Got some new stuff done. One armed smith machine rows are a great way of ending a back day. This is great substitute for the one armed dumbbell rows, you don’t need to worry as much about balance, and really can just focus on the contraction and stretch. I’m gonna go back to bed now because as fun as it is to write these things, the more I stare at this screen the more my head feels like it’s splitting right down the middle. Try it out. Get it done. Specifically with my training now I am trying to co-ordinate my upper and lower body to improve my performance. -------------------------------------------------------------- The main aim here is for upper body strength but with the co ordination of extending my leg at the same time. Ha ving the brain create new circuits with co ordination will improve my sporting performance on the field as that is exactly what running is. Today I appreciate information. When I stayed on the cattle ranch, one thing that most surprised me was how curious and friendly these longhorns were. When I meditated & worked out in the mornings, they did this. πŸ˜‚ and let me pet them. Today I went to get my beef. At my farmers market. The couple that owns the farm and I swapped pictures. Like parents of kids. They told me they love their cows. And laughed when I shared my experience. They said β€œoh yes, longhorns are super friendly” they had another type that I can’t remember. They told me how they raise them & I asked β€œdo you feel sad when it’s time for them to become steak” they said no. They said on their final day, they tell them they are graduating. To their next level. And they are giving their lives for others to live. They said that if cows feel fear, they produce adrenaline. And adrenaline, ruins the flavor and creates harm for humans. So they said β€œour cows for happy”. Interesting. I googled it. I’d read about it before. In the US studies mostly focus on flavor. It’s a fact. But overseas, they also focus on how this effects our bodies. It’s not good. As you can imagine. I pay more for my meat. And spend extra time getting it. Because I love my kids. And my health. We are on a budget, so we eat less meat. And give up other stuff. But it’s worth it. I do think meat is a healthy part of our diet. Especially for a lifter. Tonight I’ll make some beef tacos :) and celebrate my cow friends. With some painting. I’m starting my hand at watercolors. Acrylics are fun but watercolors are more challenging. Same sports bra but 2 years apart aha, I used to do just cardio and body weight exercises and thought the less I ate the better, I was very uneducated on fitness and thought this was the only way. As soon as I was old enough to join the gym I did as I have always loved working out. Then I discovered weight training through Instagram and slowly started to build my confidence to progress to using weights. I started doing my own research into exercise and nutrition, and by trial and error figured out what works best. My reason for becoming a personal trainer and start this account is to help people progress and reach their goals as there is so much false information out there that does the opposite xx

Turn on sound πŸ”Š because I have important things to tell you about some of the exercises. β€’ Superset 1: 1️⃣ Close-grip Bench Press: 4 sets of 9-11 reps 2️⃣ Barbell Curl: 4 sets of 9-11 reps Superset 2: 3️⃣ Machine Tricep Press: 3 sets of 9-11 reps 4️⃣ Incline Dumbbell Curl: 3 sets of 9-11 reps Superset 3: 5️⃣ Dumbbell Overhead Extension: 3 sets of 9-11 reps 6️⃣ Dumbbell Hammer Curls: 3 sets of 9-11 reps β€’ Exercise replacement: there are some gyms that don't have the triceps press machine that I used in exercise 3, so you can do bench dips. β€’ Put your feet on one bench and your hands on another bench right behind you and then perform dips.
