Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great day. I got a leg workout in tonight and then took the babies on a walk. These home workouts are tough. It’s so hard to get up off the couch! I’ve always had the equipment to workout at home but I needed to actually get up and go to the gym in order to get my workout in. I LOVE lifting weights but I’ve definitely noticed that I have been putting these workouts off until later in the evening when I’ve always been a morning workout girl. I’ve made it my mission to lift weights almost everyday for my friends who can’t. 🥺 It may sound silly to some, but this is how we cope, connect, and support one another. Unpopular opinion...You can burn just as much, if not more in the long run...by lifting with heavier weights and by using slow and deliberate movements with proper form. Today was clean presses, deadlifts, squats, lunges and Romanian deadlifts. I had a rough morning so I had to throw my anxiety into my booty/leg day, nothing is more therapeutic for me. It’s crazy, considering that I used to be the chick who said she’d NEVER lift, much less lift heavy, because I didn’t want to look like a dude. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hate admitting that, but that’s where I was 4 years ago. I personally decided to leave that cardio bunny behind a few years ago, because I was trying to achieve a body that I can’t naturally have, and said hello to my natural curves and then some 🍑🖤. LOWER BODY/CORE WORKOUT & MUSCLE MEMORY This workout was quite humbling to see what a hit my lower body strength has taken over the last couple months. Thank goodness for muscle memory! Rebuilding old muscle is a lot easy than building new muscle. This is partly due to our body already having made neurological adaptions for the movement (our brain remembering) and probably the the idea that some scientists now have that muscles cells don’t disappear, but hits shrink. Muscle memory is totally understood, but we know it’s there! ▪️Front Squat 5x6 ▪️Split Squats 4x8 (each leg) ▪️RDL 4x8 ▪️High Step Ups 4x12-10-8-6 (each leg) ▪️SS Bear Shoulder Taps 3x16 (super slow - try to rock as little as possible) ▪️SS Star Side Plank 3x30 seconds (each side)

There’s this moment when you approach the bar where you forget what’s going on in the world and life. It’s a quick sweet moment but it’s been especially helpful during these times. Missing a lot of things right now but beyond grateful. Grateful for my health and the health of my loved ones, for the ability to care for myself and my son and the army of people around me that continually pull me up when I feel down. Love you all so much 💕 ✨190 pounds in quarantine mode and in my drive way? I’ll take it! And may I say it felt the lightest it has ever felt 🤗

On one of my grocery orders last week, I put a bag of mini Reese’s peanut butter eggs in my cart.⁣ ⁣ I hesitated. ⁣ ⁣ I’m feeling a lot of stress and anxiety right now. Did I really think that was a good idea?⁣ ⁣ I hit “check out.”⁣ ⁣ When it came time to pick up my groceries, I took that bag of eggs and put it away. Far away. Out of my kitchen and on a whole separate floor of the house. One that requires commitment for me to walk to and pull out the treat.⁣ ⁣ I’m really proud of myself for buying those peanut butter eggs.⁣ ⁣ No, really, I am. ⁣ ⁣ I’m proud because those eggs mean I’m leveling up in my relationship with food. I thought through it (awareness), I chose them (purpose), and I built a system that decreased my chances of mindless eating (habit). ⁣ ⁣ I used to tell anybody who would listen that the “only thing that worked for me was to go cold turkey.” ⁣ ⁣ At 262 pounds and sick, it wasn’t working all that well, was it?⁣ ⁣ I’d restrict all the “bad foods”, and then Easter would come, and I’d find myself stress eating peanut butter eggs in the parking lot, hiding the wrappers from my kids and husband. ⁣ ⁣ I’d neglected to accept that food is more than just food. Food tells a story. Food is traditions and relationships.⁣ ⁣ Reese’s Eggs were my favourite part of every Easter basket growing up. They’re still my favourite part. ⁣ ⁣ And that’s okay. Food can be pleasurable….without making it a “bad food.”⁣ ⁣ So, today, I reached for that mini peanut butter egg. It’s almost Easter, even though it doesn’t feel like it. ⁣ ⁣ I wanted to feel, just for a moment, like the world wasn’t in a pandemic, and relive the fun of pastel baskets and Easter grass (as a kid - Easter grass as an adult is from the devil, haha).⁣ Food tells a story, and that’s part of the amazing nature of the world around us. It’s not just nourishment, but oh so much more than that.⁣ ⁣ What foods are a part of your story?⁣ ⁣

Deload log today, so went no sleeves, wraps or belt just to keep it interesting. 109kg/240lbs for 6 sets of 2. Not a major deload but weight knocked back 10% and volume cut to 40%. Just to allow a bit of recovery and super-compensation before the push of the next block on log press. Like I mentioned yesterday, the whole goal of this 30 for 30 April challenge is to start creating habits that will last PAST April. ⁣ ⁣ We aren’t doing 30 days of “earning or burning” your food, or 30 days of a super-restrictive diet, just to let all hell break loose on Day 31.⁣ ⁣ We’re all about creating systems that will carry you through the rest of your life during these 30 days.⁣ ⁣ Did you watch EC Synkowski’s TED talk from the other day? If not, go watch it. It’s called “An Elegant Diet.” It’s only 8 minutes long. ⁣ ⁣ I’ll wait here…...⁣ ⁣ After watching it, did you start to look at your own diet differently? Did you pay attention to how many fruits and vegetables you were eating yesterday?⁣ ⁣ I know that when I started weighing out my own fruits and veggies to try and hit 800 grams a day, I was shocked. I thought I was pretty good at hitting those plants - after all, I’d come from a vegan diet, and I loved vegetarian dishes.⁣ ⁣ Y’all, I was barely hitting 500 grams a day, even when I was consciously trying to make sure I was hitting those fruits and veggies all day long.⁣ ⁣ Today, I want you to pay attention to those plants - try to get 5-6 cups worth today. It might be hard this first day, but YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS! ⁣ ⁣ You’re moving 20 minutes per day still (you can do short 5-10 minute blocks of movement, don’t forget!), watching your pee (watered down lemonade, friends!), and now, I want you to pay attention to that plant intake. Let’s aim for 5-6 cups worth, and consciously choose them throughout the day. ⁣ ⁣ Don’t worry if it seems like a lot - we’re going to work on fine-tuning these three habits (movement, hydration, and nutrition) over the next few days before we add in something new. We will have time to work out the kinks together!⁣ ⁣ Leave me a comment below and let me know how you’re getting your fruits and veggies today! ⁣

Missing the gym today. I have been coping with at home workouts but I miss the escape into a different world. When I'm in the gym I am focused and ready to get better. When I'm at home I am easily distracted and end up not having a very productive workout. Plus I miss the deadlift bar! I had just gotten up to 175lbs right before all of this happened!

They might even being watching the same memes come across their newsfeed, if they’re old enough to have their own social media.⁣ ⁣ And what they’re learning is this:⁣ ⁣ - Gaining 15 pounds (or any weight) is not acceptable ⁣ - In times of stress, it’s not okay to take a break from weight loss even if it’s causing you mental stress (physiologically speaking, it’s actually the PERFECT time to take a break from a caloric deficit)⁣ - “Comfort food” (aka baking with your kids) is actually a bad thing, because you gain weight from it⁣ - It’s not actually possible to eat these comfort foods in moderation ⁣ - There are “bad foods” and “good foods” and bad foods make you fat⁣ - Being overweight makes you the butt of the jokes, and chips away at your inherent dignity ⁣ ⁣ Now I *know* that a lot of these memes and jokes are just that: jokes.⁣ ⁣ They’re intended to be funny and likely lighthearted. I’m positive that there’s no ill intent behind them.⁣ ⁣ But when we pause and think - what message is really being enforced when we make gaining weight and/or being overweight the punchline of the joke?⁣ ⁣ Should that be the message we are reinforcing?⁣

3 years ago @whatwouldcavewomando shared a drink with me that literally changed my life for the better. . . I felt an unbelievable surge of energy, that came with mental clairity and the best of all was no more HANGER. Feeding controlled my life as I couldn’t go longer than 2-3 hours without needing to eat, RIGHT FUCKING NOW! When I ate poorly I couldn’t even make 2 hours without the hanger kicking in. I ate very clean obsessively. I repeat obsessively! . . I would have intense anxiety when traveling or going out. Do I have enough purse snack? What’s the itinerary? When will we be eating? Can I eat anything there? What are they serving? Always stressed about it and always HUNGRY. . . I used food as fuel, and had a good relationship with it, but I was never able to control my hunger. Until I had that first drink I mentioned earlier. I understood the science behind it, the fuel source, and how it would impact my brain, my DNA, ALL of the things it could do for me. But I never believed I wouldn’t need to eat 5x a day. . 6 weeks later I was running errands and found myself HUNGRY, not HANGRY....It was 2pm and I had left the house that morning without eating, without packing snacks or even thinking about food. Food never ever crossed my mind until I felt hunger. This had never happened before!!!! This hunger felt different, like a gentle nudge versus a roaring freight train that came with shakes, headaches, weakness, extreme brain fog, and irritability/agitation. . . My life changed forever that day, I was free, and empowered. Food no longer controlled my life. . . Have you experienced hanger? Have you been a victim of my hanger hahaha? Does food run your life?
