Just Nati. The child who came from the desert. Escaramuza Charra. México 2018 🏜 Nati is the youngest of the affiliates to the "March of the Hussars" the Light Cavalry Regiment composed exclusively by women (🤔... or by children since no one is too young to be a Escaramuza) 🐴🛡⚔👧🏻 Behinds her there's a singular story, it is said that she appeared out from nowhere. Some other people point to the vast desert at the north, but the only truth is that at the time she appeared her only belong was a rag doll and a note that stated her name... Nati.

Mariel Molina de Aragón. Escaramuza Charra. 🐴🛡⚔👧🏻 México 2018. Mariel is a 14 years old young girl, and as her mate Alejandra belongs to the Light Cavalry Unit called "March of the Hussars". Her family origins came from Guadalajara province of Castilla, but much further back in the XVIII century, her family emigrated from Hungary to settle first in Spain and then expand their family roots to México.

Alejandra Olivares.🍃 México 2018. Alejandra is a young 12 years old girl who was born and raised in the tradition of the Mexican "Escaramuza Charra" In the picture she wears silver earrings and an embroidered blouse with the same distinctive ancient pattern of olive leaves 🌿 seen in the uniforms of affiliates to the "March of the Hussars" that is a Light Cavalry Regiment composed exclusively of women and which Alejandra belongs, 🐴🛡⚔👧🏻 This particular unit was mentioned first time in the Mexican Independence War of early 1800. Indeed, "Escaramuza" is a Spanish word that means Light Cavalry Unit.

Alejandra Olivares. Central México. 2018. This portrait is my first installment of a photo series about "The Escaramuzas", that although is one of the most relevant aspects of Mexican culture is almost unknown by a vast majority. The Escaramuza is a Mexican female equivalent of an American Cowboy and is my intention to reveal some interesting facts of this rich heritage through the series. I also want to state that I chose a tintype process not only because it fits perfectly to the subject matter but it also reflects in a more accurate way the magical aura around this ancient culture that survives until these days in some remote corners of rural México. I only regret not to have had proper lighting gear at the time the series was done which outcome in a lack of contrast. Anyway I hope you could enjoy the pictures. See you in the next installment.
