This past week was a total success for me. I may not have checked all items off of my to-do list; I may not have eaten 100% clean; I may not have pushed myself as hard during my workouts; I may be somewhat concerned about what my finances and the economy will turn into... but I managed to stick somewhat to a routine. I managed to stay in touch and reach out to my friends and family. I managed to work out every day, managed to still prepare all of my meals. . Today I woke up with a renewed appreciation for my new routine and surroundings. Take a deep breath and be thankful for what you have right now, including your mental and physical health. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m slowly falling into a routine I could get used to. I’m staying active, I’m home cooking all of my meals and eating them FRESH (hadn’t done that in the longest time). Not eating out. I’m getting to bed at latest around 10, and I can sleep in until whatever time I want to 🤷🏻‍♀️ (although 7AM is the latest I’ll ever go). I can keep in touch with all my friends and family that I typically don’t have time to contact - I’m usually too busy. I can spend some time outdoors, I can take long walks with JP. I have lots of time to work on being productive with my own work instead of trying to juggle family, work, my side business, etc. . It’s truly a blessing to have time on your hands, we just need to become accustomed to it. I could get used to this really fast. . I’m not unaware of my situation, or the world’s situation, I just choose to focus on aspects I CAN control, and wait to see what plays out with what I CAN’T. 3 for 4...if they’re not posted, they never happened...next workout in 45 minutes. Just sneaking in my evening coffee ahead of time, since usually that’s when I have it to wind down. So, today was particularly challenging as it is Day 6 of my Social Distancing and now officially on lock down. I woke up by a text from Drew with my GTX Cut workout @ 10:30, what did I do? Rolled over and went back to bed. I planned on doing something later. But I added yours into the mix 😉 Then, Lindsey Gribbens challenged me to the #10for10 push-up challenge that’s going on in the Instagram world. I’m making it part of the Facebook world. If you were nominated - it’s just something to pass time away. At that moment, around 11AM I decided to get out of bed and get cooking...made Maryann Fitzgerald and I protein pancakes, had my coffee and started the challenge an hour later. Take-a-ways, I’ve adapted to do long workouts at home again. Without the social aspect provided at Lifetime and lighter weights, the workout goes faster, so I did three things total to kill an hour of my day. Gym, I miss you all the time, but I am loving this slower lifestyle. Top tips to work from home (or just be productive during quarantine times) As a personal trainer, I don’t typically “work from home”. It’s kind of the opposite of what I do. . Recently, with gym closures and taking on more online clients, I’ve had to make it a point to be productive in an environment that I wouldn’t typically be. . My top tips for working from home and being productive are: ⏰ Set an alarm to wake up around the same time you would typically. Try to resist the temptation of sleeping in. . 💅🏻 actually “get ready” - try not to stay in PJs all day! . . 💻 Find a designated work space that can ideally be respected if you live with others. A quiet and organized space will help you focus! . . ⏳ Remember to take breaks - it’s super easy to lose track of time when at home. . 🌻 Spend some time outside! Vitamin D is super beneficial, and exposure to natural sunlight will help you sleep better! . . 📱⌚️ Avoid distractions. Place your phone in another room if you’re tempted to spend a little too much time on your non-work related devices. . . 📝 make “to do” lists to help keep you on track. Today I was informed that my 60 day challenge was cancelled 3 weeks early. Bittersweet as I had a lot of change this time i am down 10lbs but I fell so much better mentally right now. But I get why. . Even though I didn’t get to finish the spring challenge and I am still celebrating me and how far I have come. Pictured a couple comparisons from the first week till today. . Right now I am thankful for the great trainers at my gym who keep share amazing content to keep us moving during this time and keep me motivated. . In times of fear and uncertainty, even taking deep breaths may seem impossible. It took me a few days to accept the situation and come to terms with what I could do about it. . . I plan on staying on track with accomplishing my goals as best I can. Home workouts, long walks, eventual jogs, etc. I am also monitoring my weight. If I can maintain during the next few weeks of significantly less movement, I’ll be satisfied with myself. I KNOW I’m not moving much, but I am also focusing on other activities such as finishing some continuing education courses I had postponed due to a lack of time. . Cooking yummy foods (that fit my macros) and moving when I can, how I can. Staying occupied mentally and trying to stick to a routine. So no one ever told you that once you become active, how hard it is to stay away. I really needed Lifetime today, so I used what I had at home to stick with it and see friendly faces virtually. The best part being some of the classes I took are normally when I’m sleeping, so it was nice to experience their classes. Rest assured even though Lifetime is closed temporarily, I am still utilizing all resources remotely to stay on top of the 60 Day challenge. I even combined my Low Intensity Interval Training with my High Intensity Interval Training! What does that mean? My workout was 1 hr 18 mins long including a warmup and cool down. I just really needed to clear my head since I couldn’t get on the conference call, what better way than to interval train?! Week 6 LIIT was being in Zone 1 for 20mins : Zone 2 for 15 mins : Zone 3 for 10 mins for a total of 45 mins. I then did HIIT which was 40secs in zone 1 and 20secs in zone 4 alternating repeating 10 times so a total of 10 mins. A 55 min workout took 1 hr 18 mins to do because there was a 10 min warmup and I had to get home somehow. So, if you’re truly analyzing my results in the LIIT sector - there were slight instances that I went up a zone for a bit, that’s because there was a gang of 10 people locking arms while walking the path I trailed and I was trying to distance myself from them. My strength workouts for the week will definitely be online video training from my fitness group instructors or following it off the app. On another note, it really concerns me how many people still do not understand the concept of social distancing at local parks during the Covid-19 outbreak. Bonus remarks: I’ve totally upped my game since last year as I only had ONE SLICE of Irish Soda Bread, which is really hard when you make the best loaf on the planet. That is a victory in itself! And, since I’ve started with Lifetime, I’ve lost enough weight while gaining muscle in order to wear my favorite Irish workout shirt with a long sleeve underneath it since it’s still chilly. I’ve worked very hard the last two months to create habit of working out and moving my body. I am NOT allowing the current circumstances to derail my motivation! This is a “true” test of my self discipline and commitment to moving my body and reaching my goals!
