Most simply, 'macros' is short for macronutrients, of which there are three; protein, fats and carbohydrates (or four if you include water) . They are the building blocks of which all our food and calories are made up of. . ⏺ Protein - Protein is a nutrient found in things like meat, fish, seeds, nuts and eggs. It has a huge array of functions, but we perhaps know it best as one of the molecule that helps build up our muscles. For every gram of protein consumed, it's 4 calories. . ⏺ Fats - Fats can be split into two main groups: unsaturated and saturated. Unsaturated fats can be found in a lot of plant sources like seeds and avocados. Saturated fats can be found in things like coconut oil and butter. More about different kinds of fat 🔜 1g fat = 9 cals. . ⏺ Carbohydrates - Carbohydrates can be split into 'simple' and 'complex' sources. Simple sources include sugar in things like chocolate etc and also in fruit. Not the most aesthetically pleasing photo BUT it might be informative to some people. A question I get a lot is what my diet consists of and I thought I would show a picture of my breakfast since I eat both of these foods on a daily basis: Eggs and Oatmeal There are no magic foods that'll make you lose weight but I definitely think that these two foods have helped contributed to my fat loss/muscle gain. Let's start with eggs. Eggs are a great source of protein and will keep you full for a long time. Eggs are also high in fat. Eating a breakfast high in fat helps support brain function (perfect if you're in school like me and need that extra boost to pay attention and get through my 9 am 🤓). I normally mix eggs and liquid egg whites together to add extra protein. Now some people get freaked out by eating oatmeal because it is high carb. Let me tell you something. CARBS ARE NOT THE ENEMY. I REPEAT. CARBS ARE NOT THE ENEMY. Carbs are necessary for survival and for creating muscle. Oats are high in fiber which gets your digestive system going. Not only that but oats will keep you super full PLUS you can make them however you want and put whatever you want in them. Lastly, I take vitamins with my breakfast. I have fiber gummies (bc who doesn't love gummies) also to help with digestion. I'm currently taking diuretics as a part of prep (definitely not necessary for the average person) and I take magnesium to also help with digestion (can you tell I'm all about gut health? 😅😂) Anyways, sorry for the long ass caption. Hopefully this was somewhat helpful for someone 😂 at Michigan State University

Hello and happy Monday! I’m starting today off with a cup of coffee, scrambled eggs, and a slice of sourdough toast. Tbh I haven’t had scrambled eggs in so long. I saw a picture of them and knew I had to have them today. I feel extra motivated this Monday. Macro tracking is starting off well. I’ve reached a goal that I’m very happy about. Now I’m onto a new goal. I’ve been struggling with this specific goal for a while now. So I’m hoping I can achieve it easier thanks to macros. It’s honestly really crazy how much more I should’ve been eating. But ya live and ya learn! I’m also restarting BBG today! I’ve stopped for a while to try out other workouts and realized that BBG is what works for me! I know it's Monday ( #monSLAY) but I HAD to throwback to yesterday, when I went to an peddler festival, and got this baby!!🐓 Anyone else enjoy a giant smoked turkey leg at festivals in their hometown?? I looked forward to this all week!!😄😋 Yes, this giant hunk o' meat definitely fulfilled my entire days worth of #protein and it's calorie dense- 600-700 cals (&that's without most of the skin! Skin on its 1000+!) BUT GUESS WHAT. IT WAS DELICIOUS. I didn't worry abt "too many macros" or how this impacted the rest of my day...bc uh, it DIDN'T. Do I eat a caveman-club-sized turkey leg daily? Weekly? No!! This is my annual festival treat, and I enjoyed the heck out of it! ~~~ Don't let one meal, one day, throw you off! I know for all of us health conscious peeps, especially those of us who tend to be *mild* control freaks🙋, deviating from the "plan" or getting a curveball can be stressful. Let's all work on just living life and enjoying things as they come! I had an awesome time w my fam yesterday, walking around, watching shows and looking at artisans booths. ⬇️PROTEIN BAR REVIEW⬇️ OH YEAH! ONE Seasonal Pumpkin Pie Protein Bar 8g Fat / 24g Carbs / 21g Protein (9g fiber) . . MACRO WORTHINESS: YES (9/10)😍❤️ This protein bar tasted ALMOST IDENTICAL to pumpkin pie🎃 It had a sweet pumpkin & fall spice (primarily cinnamon) flavored filling with a sugary FROSTED coating that reminded me of whipped cream/powdered sugar🤤 I was quite impressed by its soft and chewy texture with a few crunchy balls throughout. . As you all know, I've been plant based since I'd guess march and I've never felt better 😊the question I get asked most frequently is "how do I get my protein requirements" so here you go 😉 Mock meats : (I've used Linda McCartney sausages as an example as these are readily available at most supermarkets) per 4 sausages you are looking at 32.8g protein, 10g fat, 13.8g carbs Edamame bean noodles : at 45g protein, 4g fat, 17g carbs (per 100g) I think you would be hard pressed to find a better plant based protein source than this (apart from a designated plant based protein powder) Legumes: using lentil as an example 25g protein, 1.3g fat, 59g carbs Per 100g (dry) most legumes have very similar macro nutrient profile so you can't go wrong here. Nut butters : using meridian peanut butter as an example (peanuts are a legume but I have kept them separate due to there high fat content) 14.8g protein, 23g fat , 5.8g carbs I absolutely love nut butters and I think it is a great way to increase your protein intake for the day, I tend to eat fairly fat sparse so including nut butters is a great way to increase my fat intake for the day Plant based protein powder : example @vivolife raw plant protein 25g protein, 0.9g fat , 2.4g carbs. I don't know one person that doesn't/hasn't used a protein supplement at some point(who's into fitness). Although not essential they are a great way of boosting your protein intake and it has made my life easier for when I am on the go. I have a discount code : JULE5 for any vivolife products Bagels (breads) : BONUS FOOD. Now you are probably wondering why I have included bagels in a post about protein. Well at about 10g of protein per bagel here you have a nice little way of boosting your protein intake for the day with little effort. 2x bagels with a serving of nut butter is around 30g of protein 😉 This post is only scratching the surface of plant based protein sources (I didnt even include dairy free milks) but I hope it give you a nice little example. I tend to get around 160-180g of protein daily, so you would have no issues if you ever decided to go plant based 😊 🌱🌱🌱

This is true in so many areas of life. If you’re into fitness and hit a plateau, that’s part of the process. We don’t hit PRs every training session. Hell, we may even go weeks without much progress but then out of nowhere, magic happens and our workouts soar. - Maybe you like to write and have hit a wall...The words aren’t coming like they once did. That’s OK. Clear your mind, stop stressing over it, and know that it’s temporary. - Maybe you’re in sales and your numbers are low...You’re working hard but just aren’t getting anywhere. Don’t give up. Keep doing your best and know that with persistence things will change. - Maybe you’re a stay at home parent (hardest job ever)...You’re trying to keep your child on the right path but it seems it’s always a struggle. Know that it’s most likely a phase and if you continue to instill good values, morals, etc., this too shall pass. - Life isn’t going to be how we want it all of the time. Like even jeans. And that shit hurts. HI I’M BACK! 💁🏽 I haven’t had anything interesting to post the last couple of weeks but I’ve still been hitting the gym! I’m starting on new plan today & starting NEW macros & going back to flexible dieting. Makes me so happy to be able to make my OWN menu for the day as long as I hit those numbers. I will be weighing myself & tracking everything I put in my body & my workouts daily. Structure is something I have ALWAYS needed and that’s ok because it’s what works for me. I can’t wait to see the change I can make to my body by pushing myself. I am SO sore right now that I can barely lift my arms hahaha. So I have been pushing myself in the last couple of days already! Hello Monday.. I’m ready for ya👊🏼 Ready to take on this week & all it has to offer! But first, this cookies & cream shake 🤤 – - - - - 1 scoop @nutrakey cookies & cream protein 1/2 cup cauliflower Handful of ice 1/4 cup almond milk Topped with @somersaultlife Dutch chocolate cookies 27P, 12C, 6F: 210 calories 🍪 – - - - - Because life’s too short not to start your week with a shake like this☝🏼️ I love adding cauliflower to my smoothies (thanks @rvafitfoodie for the inspo) & now I can’t stop! It gives it volume, & fills me up for a little over an hour or so.. then I usually eat a big meal. Smoothies are a fun way to get extra nutrients in.. has anyone added zucchini🥒 in their smoothies? Still have yet to explore that one🤔 happy mon🎉

I'm so proud of my cute client! I've been coaching her for 2 weeks and she is knocking it out of the park! She's hitting her macros RIGHT on.
