I have my moments where I feel so proud of myself for everything I’ve overcome, I’ve had some stuff thrown at me that I honestly believed in the moment I wouldn’t get through. You never know how strong you are until you need to be. But then on the other side, my anxiety and depression has tested me and continue to every day. The feeling of letting everyone down, myself down, my family, my colleagues. Embarrassed to be myself because of what people may think of me. •✨So important✨• @the.holistic.psychologist You cannot give someone what you do not know. The truth is that as we become closer to our authentic self, those closest to us will resist this the most. This is one of the most painful parts of the healing process. It’s what makes so many people fall back into the false self because it’s extremely lonely and isolating. But there is deep wisdom in the isolation period. It’s a learning. I couldn’t see it when I went through it. Now, I see how valuable that clearing was for me. I had to face myself. The relationship dynamics I wasn’t even aware of. I had to witness my codependency, my avoidance, the trauma bonds, and my past self. People who don’t focus on evolution, cannot celebrate the evolution of another. They’ll do the opposite, resist it beyond belief. Some may even take to mocking it. We can’t honor what we don’t know. We can’t see the beauty of transformation, if our ego has control of our behavior. To heal, we must actively practice being misunderstood. Do you ever know the right choice and not take it anyway? And not because the right choice is hard, or complicated, or easy to forget but because you're too apathetic to bother. I ran out of one of my meds yesterday and while my psychiatrist should be sending me a refill he's late and I don't care enough to send a follow-up email. And the truth is, it's not that hard to manage five different medications, to email my psychiatrist, to take a trip to the pharmacy. But not all truths are created equal and the other truth is that I detest taking my medications and all the minor life tweaks that entails. So while the right answer is plain and obvious I'm still drawn to making the wrong choice, partially to see what will happen, partially because I just don't care. Who can relate? When we’re emotionally overwhelmed, it can be hard to know how to come back to our center. Here is a brief practice that is based in research on emotion regulation & I have found to be incredibly helpful. • • For the research nerds out there: - 💥 The facial feedback hypothesis shows that when we smile, even if we feel sad, we begin to feel happy + our nervous system responds in a similar way to experiencing happiness. - 💥 Placing a hand over your heart has been shown to activate the parasympathetic (rest/digest) system. - 💥 Recognizing + labeling our internal emotional experience is called proprioception. This activates our prefrontal cortex, which decreases activity in the emotion centers of the brain.

12.08 - Doing some writing and reflecting under blankets by the fire tonight 🔥⁣ ⁣ This weekend has been both huge progress and moments full of anxiety/negative ED thoughts. As you saw, I was able to come visit my mom back in my hometown this weekend but I also had my best friend's birthday last night, which meant a ton of food and drinking. Before I even went, my anxiety was through the roof. Just knowing I'd be around all my friends and their families, and food and alcohol was involved, I had so many anxious thoughts, thoughts of how I'd eat and purge to not feel guilty, yet keep it a secret. Just so much.⁣ ⁣ I knew they were going to happen because it was one of my biggest outings since I started my recovery, so I did my best to stop those thoughts from continuing. I kept reiterating to myself how no one cares what I eat or don't eat, if I have a drink or not, and I am ALLOWED to enjoy myself and eat dinner and snacks and birthday cake, and have a drink or two if I want it.⁣ ⁣ My value isn't based off of that. My worth has nothing to do with food. The ability for me to actually be in town and there for my best friend on her birthday is valuable and worth everything. An occasion for my best friend should have nothing to do with me and my struggles with food.. so once I got there, I pushed those ED thoughts away. I wasn't going to allow them to pop in my head and take over my night.⁣ ⁣ So tonight, I'm reflecting on my weekend. I'm reflecting on the anxiety and thoughts I've had. I'm going to write to relieve stress. I'm going to write why my ED won't win and why I am worthy of continuing this fight. I'm going to write about why the negative thoughts I had, have no truth behind them. They are just ED thoughts, and they have no room in my life anymore. ⁣ ⁣ I AM WORTHY OF THIS JOURNEY ❣

A little update on my self care garden.. I’ve really taken to gardening as a type of self care, I absolutely love watching things grow from seed and I love taking care of them! In these pics are some of my cherry tomato plants, the planted box with 14 sugar Snap pea plants in it 😂, one of the pots of watermelon and the pot of cucumbers - I’ve gotta put a trellis in there when they get a tiny bit bigger so that they having something to climb! 😍 Another happy client! 🔸When this sweet 61 year old young lady came to me her first sign on goals were to become more acclimated in the gym. She wanted to understand nutrition more and gain strength. After falling on a trip and breaking her shoulder she returned to me and signed up again this time for rehab work. In her sessions we focused on range of motion exercises as her fall caused her motions to become limited. Once she regained full range of motion we focused on rebuilding strength and then muscle. Healthy as an ox she powered through her workouts and began becoming familiar with the free bar. Can she get some sugar! Way to work young lady. 🔸 🔸🔸A lot of times when people sign up initially they talk about weight loss and muscle building very common things when enrolling into a change in lifestyle program however, I think it’s also very important to understand and indentify the mental aspect of things. When we feel good, we look good. Taking the time to put our health first is so important not only just for our physical but our mental and emotional well being. Anxiety, depression, overall general mood disorders and generalized discomfort are all aspects that get touched when we get up and move. There are still slots left to enroll into any of my programs.
