Sometimes I fall into the trap of convincing myself that restricting wasn't that bad. Maybe you've felt this too? I KNOW how much better I feel with adequate food....I have proof through my experience to support that. I KNOW that even when my body was smaller, it still wasn't good enough. I have proof for that too. I know that there was 0 control, no matter now "safe" I felt. I was numbing myself from the life right in front of me. So what do I do when I feel like I miss that feeling? โ€ข I often have to remind myself of what I've gained through recovery. It can be easy to take for granted the joys that recovery brings, and it can be nice to reflect back on how far you've come. I also ask myself what I actually need. When I miss the ED, it's usually a result of me neglecting to care for myself in some way. Am I eating & resting enough? Am I being overly self-critical? Am I stressed? All of these things can make me want to use disordered behaviors to cope. โ€ข This graphic is more about refocusing on the present and what steps you want to take moving forward. Having close goals can help bring our minds back to the goal of recovery as well. Maybe there's a certain restaurant that you want to eat at, or an activity you want to be able to do. Recovery gives us the ability to find new ways to spend our time. An ED is always going to be an ED. Boring, ritualistic, draining, etc etc. We know this. Now it's time to live your life the way it was intended; with your full heart and pizzazz. ๐ŸŽ‰

We talk (myself included) a lot of all the things that can negatively impact our mental health. We talk about insufficient sleep, poor nutrition, stagnant lifestyle, abusing alcohol and drugs and the various factors that can negatively impact our mental health. But we rarely talk about all the other things, from social injustices to racism, and how all of these factors without a doubt negatively influence our mental wellbeing.
