DAY 1 LEARN TO SAY NO Learning to say NO is an act of self love, kindness and self compassion. If you’ve grown up believing you’re not good enough and you struggle with low self worth, chances are you’re stuck in an unhelpful pattern of needing to ‘people please’ and you may avoid speaking your truth through fear of upsetting people or being judged. Not only does this create more pressure on you and over time wear you down, it’s disempowering! What happens is you’ve become so used to saying YES to people and please people it’s becomes a trusted way to feel good about yourself, and you end up constantly seeking external validation. It becomes a very unhelpful habit! Maybe you worry what they’ll say if you don’t say yes? Maybe you're scared of being judged or of confrontation? The DANGER: you’re so busy saying yes to every thing and every one you take on too much and literally burn out. Here’s the thing; once you’ve let the past go, and healed your self worth you no longer need to ‘people please’ - it just won’t feel necessary! You’ll no longer need to seek validation from others and feel the need to impress anyone. Why? Because you begin to know you are enough and no longer need to prove yourself. Self Belief comes from within and will never be found from another, or doing things to prove yourself. When you trust yourself to say NO you’ll take back your power and being to enjoy a real sense of empowerment. Saying NO needn’t be aggressive or unkind, neither do you need to give an explanation why - you can simply say NO because that feels better for you - the nice people will be respectful and understanding. When you learn to say NO you start to respect yourself and your limitations. LOVE YOURSELF: Be brave and identify something or someone you need to say NO to! Practise saying NO to someone you trust and gradually build this up to your boss or an over controlling friend or relative. By taking back your control you’ll soon be able to feel if something feels too much and know whey you need to say NO or stop what you’ve always been doing.

Since the beginning of treatment I have always had a hard time giving a number to my distress/anxiety while doing exposure therapy. Every time it’s felt like the numbers I pick don’t quite match with what I’m actually feeling. If I pick 10 does that mean I should be inconsolable? If I go with 1 does that mean I shouldn’t be focusing on it? I pick a number and it’s a half-a** guess and it makes habitualizing difficult because I’m never really sure of the actual level of my distress. This idea of utilizing numbers to describe how I feel mentally doesn’t work for me. For the past few weeks I decided to try a different tactic. I decided to describe my suds using the color of a rainbow. Red for when I’m at my worst and purple for when I’m the most calm. Colors can represent so many feelings and evoke a natural response in me. As a result when I’m triggered or doing ET the color that matches my distress comes to mind much quicker and clearer than a number ever has.

What would happen if instead of letting the anxiety dictate what you thought, you took a moment to say words of encouragement to yourself? 🥳 . . Next time you feel anxiety coming on, I challenge you to us a coping statement! Say it OUT LOUD a few times until the anxiety lessens or passes! . . However silly you feel, over time what you are doing is *actually* retraining your thinking to be more positive! . . If we spent MORE time learning to live with anxiety, rather than pushing down or running from it, we would find life CAN be wonderful, even WITH anxiety! 💆🏽‍♀️ . . Can we talk about kids and food? I remember the days before I had my son thinking my kids would eat what was in front of them and I wouldn't waiver. 😂 Now I am alot more flexible, and have decided he can have any food at any time. Let me explain. After a lifetime of hearing "finish your plate" and "you can't have dessert if you don't eat that" I've decided to try something else. My issues with food are definitely my own, but they stem from the lessons I was taught as a kid and teen. So if there's pie to be had, or a yummy treat someone wants to give him, I say go for it. Some weeks this summer he got to eat ice cream every day! I don't want to assign good or bad to any food. When I cook meals, my son eats a balanced diet. He loves big flavours and almost all fruits and veggies. But his growing body needs lots of carbs and calories and sugar and all of the foods we demonize in our diet obsessed culture. What's interesting, is even if he's eating something that really has little nutritional value he still stops when he's full. Enough is enough and he knows it. His ability to listen and know his body is such a gift. I don't want to muddy it up with "5 more bites" or "you just ate you can't still be hungry". To be honest, I don't know. Maybe I'm messing it up way harder than the women before me. But I'm trying to listen to my own intuition by listening to his.

The Girl Who Longed For A Father.. * * * I was a girl who was so sad and so lost. I was broken from having a dad who abandoned me. * * * I thought something was wrong with me. Seriously wrong. The pain of not knowing my dad hit to the core of my soul, it was a deep dark well with no water. * * * The emotional pain was too much. When I was triggered it was as if someone opened the floodgates from HELL. * * * This particular time was the worst… I sat on my bed, ready to take my own life. I just needed an escape from the tsunami of self hate, unworthiness, and abandonment. Last Friday the LifeChanger Team spent the morning at MacKillop College Werribee for their Year 9 Resilience Day! We went in with three words in mind - Leadership - Resilience - Gratitude and came out with so much more! The students tackled the grid master and whilst they may not have broken the record, they set a very impressive time! We also created the BIGGEST LifeChanger gratitude line to ever exist! We all had an awesome time! I just left my hometown, said see you soon to my parents, on my way to spend the last few days with my sister and my nephew. . . I didn't want to sleep last night. I felt like if I didn't sleep, today won't come. I had the greatest time with my parents. Spending time as much as I can. Asking as much questions I can. Learning about them, our ancestors, my childhood... I felt like if I leave, everything woud disappear like it was just a dream. And I don't want it to happen. I didn't know how much I love them. . The perfect parent-daughter relationship that I pictured as a child, none of that was there. But taking care of front yard with my dad, holding my mom's tiny hand as she walked, having meals together.. I blame myself for not coming back more often. Why didn't I choose to spend more time with them? Why was I afraid that they don't care about me? All of the stories that I've created in my head... I witnessed that it was all an illusion. I have so much love being poured out and shared from my parents. I miss you already. I miss you so much. I have a deep love that can pass across the ocean, trust that's so strong and the proof that I'm loved no matter what. So now, it's time to pour these out and share with you. Trauma Trooper: a compilation of stories about overcoming trauma and the resilience of the human spirit. . Roughly two months ago, I began writing and compiling entries for Trauma Trooper because I started to notice how prevalent trauma was in my daily interactions. It felt widespread to me. Though I also observed how nobody knew (including myself) how to interact with someone who was experiencing trauma. I know there is a lot of stigma surrounding the word 'trauma,' but I've come to learn that it does not necessarily revolve around a life threatening event. So I hope you choose to read these stories, even if you do not identify as someone who has experienced trauma. Because we are all going through something. PS. This is not a one-stop shop for everything trauma. Traumatic experiences are wide and varied as are trauma care resources. I tried to incorporate the basics. I'm learning too. PPS. I was particular with the perspectives I chose to share, trying to include those from different age groups, and compiling the experiences of those whose stories are rarely heard (aka women of colour). What are your takeaways from church this weekend? Here's a few of mine.⁣ ⁣ SCRIPTURE VERSES: ⁣ 🔅One day while Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and teachers of religious law were sitting nearby. (It seemed that these men showed up from every village in all Galilee and Judea, as well as from Jerusalem.) And the Lord’s healing power was strongly with Jesus. (Luke 5:17) ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 🔅Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to take him inside to Jesus, but they couldn’t reach Him because of the crowd. So they went up to the roof and took off some tiles. Then they lowered the sick man on his mat down into the crowd, right in front of Jesus. (Luke 5: 18-19)⁣ ⁣ 🔅Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.” (Luke 5:20) ⁣ ⁣ 🔅“Son, your sins are forgiven.” (Mark 2:5) ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 🔅“…we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.” (Acts 15:19)⁣ ⁣ 🔅And immediately, as everyone watched, the man jumped up, picked up his mat, and went home praising God. EVERYONE was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!” (Luke 5:26)
