"I am happy to return for the fourth time at T-Mobile Arena for this historic rematch against [Gennady] Golovkin," said Canelo. "I opened the doors of this place to the world of boxing, and it has become my favorite venue. This is where the fight started, and this is where I'll end it by doing what I and my fans most desire: knocking him out." "It feels right that the rematch returns to the scene of the crime," said Golovkin. "This time there will be no drama with a decision. I won the first fight and left the ring as world champion wearing all the belts. And I am going to win the second fight. Chepo Reynoso, co-trainer and manager of superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34KOs), is confident in their ability to get a very impressive victory in the upcoming rematch with IBF, IBO,WBA,WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33KOs). As previously reported, Canelo and his team are going to start the second phase of their training camp next month in the mountains of Colorado - instead of working their camp in the usual scenario of San Diego, California. Chepo has no worries about Golovkin. He's been studying a lot of his past and most recent fights and believes he's the same fighter from bout to bout - and they expect nothing different in the second fight. "Golovkin is going to be the same, he's been the same fighter. I do not think he's going to make changes, but we're going to work on some things and I think the key in the rematch is going to be the excellent physical preparation that Saul must have," said Chepo to ESPN Deportes. The veteran coach indicates that nobody was very happy with the decision from last fall, and they aim to knock Golovkin out to avoid the possibility of another bad decision in the second meeting. "Nobody was satisfied with the decision (from last September), neither the public, nor the team behind Canelo, nor was Golovkin or his team... there was some discomfort. The fans of each boxer saw their fighter win, so it was very good that the tiebreaker was done immediately so that everyone is happy," Chepo said. As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) will switch things up for his upcoming rematch with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs). The boxer usually starts his camp in Mexico and then heads over to San Diego in California, but this time around he's traveling over, along with his team led by Chepo and Eddy Reynoso, to begin a high altitude camp on March 3 or 4 in the mountains of Colorado. They feel the high altitude camp is necessary to be in the very best condition for the rematch. "We will arrive in Colorado on March 3 or 4. There we intend to take advantage of the high altitude. We already have the sparring ready, now Saul is working with Alexis Salazar, an middleweight we have in the gym and with whom we have have been moving. Once we are over there [in Colorado], the European sparring will arrive," said co-trainer Chepo Reynoso to ESPN Deportes. The decision to make this training camp change is vital, from the point of view of the team, because they want the highest level of physical preparation. "I believe that he only needs to arrive in excellent physical condition, he needs to throw more punches, which in my opinion was exactly what was missing in the close rounds, which he could have taken by throwing 5, 6 or 10 more punches... that would have been the difference for the closes rounds give them to him (Canelo) and there would be no room for doubts," said Chepo. Today, Tecate, the official beer of boxing, announces its sponsorship of GGG Promotions' global sensation, reigning unified WBC, WBA (Super), IBF, and IBO world middleweight champion, Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, in advance of the most anticipated rematch of 2018 between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin on May 5, 2018. As the exclusive beer and presenting sponsor for both the first Canelo vs. Golovkin fight and the rematch, this will be the first time in Tecate's history of sponsoring boxing where two Tecate fighters will go head-to-head. Tecate first entered the ring in 2007 by sponsoring the Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather fight and would go on to activate some of the biggest fights of the last decade including: Mayweather vs. Pacquiao (May 2015); Canelo vs. Khan (May 2016); Canelo vs. Smith (Sep. 2016); Golovkin vs. Jacobs (Mar. 2017); Canelo vs. Chavez Jr (May 2017); and Canelo vs. Golovkin (Sep. 2017). Gennady will receive Tecate's immersive 360-degree marketing muscle and 21+ consumer activations ahead of his 2018 fights. "Boxing remains Tecate's biggest passion point and we continue to see more opportunity to authentically build the sport with true fans," said Gustavo Guerra, Tecate brand director. "With Golovkin's unique style and his global popularity, we can't wait for him to get back in the ring." "Tecate is a partner whose reverence for the sport, the fighters and the fans is truly impressive," said Tom Loeffler, GGG Promotions Managing Director. "We're very happy to have signed the 2018 fight contract with Golovkin and GGG Promotions where Tecate will be featured prominently in the center ring, around the mat and throughout future arenas." Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), was very surprised that Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) used so much movement in their showdown from last September. According to Sanchez, there was a mountain of trash talking from Canelo in the pre-fight festivities for the first bout. Canelo had promised to become the first man to not only beat Golovkin - but to knock him out. Now with the rematch coming up, Canelo has once again set down a promise to close the show inside the distance. In describing Canelo's tactics in the first encounter, Sanchez compared the Mexican boxer to Floyd Mayweather Jr., who would beat his opponents by staying on the move, avoiding direct exchanges and simply outboxing them. Sanchez and Golovkin are both hoping for a far more exciting fight in the rematch. "Canelo surprised the fight fans after talking all that smack, he was a runner. Canelo turned into Floyd. McGregor turned Floyd into a Mexican and Golovkin turned Canelo into Floyd," Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio. "It behooves Canelo — with as much talking as he’s doing this far away from the fight about his legacy and how he’s going to be remembered — to at least make it a fight. If he makes it a fight, who knows what can happen." "When Canelo sat down, he was effective in the first fight, he just didn’t do it because he knew he’d get knocked out. If he does it more, maybe we get the kind of fight that we were expecting, and maybe Canelo hits hard enough to hurt Golovkin, but you’re never going to find out by back pedaling and running. Canelo needs to do what he’s saying and then anything can happen, they are both big punchers and one shot can turn a fight around." Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum saw IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) as the clear winner over Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) last September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Arum felt Golovkin easily won at least eight rounds of the first contest - making his scored 116-112 in favor the champion. "I had Golovkin winning eight rounds to four. I thought that Golovkin gave away a round or two in the beginning and may have lost a round or two at the end, but he won everything in the middle and it wasn't even close," Arum stated in a Reddit chat. "You have to understand, I've been in boxing for a very long time and people see things differently. Just because I saw the fight one way doesn't mean others couldn't see it some other way. I just think based on how I viewed it, Golovkin won and won quite easily." The scorecard of 118-110, in favor of Canelo, created a firestorm from the boxing public. Because of the public pressure, Las Vegas judge Adelaide Byrd was put on the sidelines for a few months. Arum explains that he doesn't believe in the theory that Byrd's scorecard was influenced by a third party. "Let me say this...I don't believe that there is widespread corruption as far as bribing judges. Can there be instances where they've been bribed? Probably. It is unfair to point out that some women have had ludicrous scorecards and therefore the allegation is that they've been bribed, but that's insane," Arum said. "If they were really bribed, they wouldn't have a scorecard that was so out of line! Think Adelaide Byrd's scorecard with Canelo winning 10 of 12 rounds, which was absurd! The fact that it was so absurd should convince everyone she wasn't bribed." Canelo Alvarez’s first encounter with Gennady Golovkin ended in controversy, with two judges scoring the fight even but Adelaide Byrd turning in a ludicrous 118-110 tally for the Mexican star. The dubious score overshadowed a great RING middleweight championship fight, with plenty of power punches delivered, but also finesse and many well-timed counter-punches expertly delivered. Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 knockouts) employed lots of movement and tactically let GGG chase him around the ring. For the May 5 rematch, Canelo promises to do something no one’s ever done: finish Golovkin inside the distance. “This time the judges will not have to decide the result with their scores,” Alvarez, 37, told ESPN Deportes. ” … I’m going to win my fight by knockout. I’ll be ready to win that way,” “And everyone already knows what happened. I made my fight and I think I won it but at the end the judges saw it as a draw. For that reason this second fight will be more interesting, more important.” It wouldn’t just be a great accomplishment because Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) is THE RING’s pound-for-pound best fighter. Golovkin has never been so much as knocked down in 38 pro fights, and his chin is regarded as one of the finest in the sport. Daniel Jacobs, a fearsome puncher, landed an array of heavy blows on GGG’s dome during their spirited March battle, but the Kazakh never wavered. The same can be said for his fight against Canelo, another massive puncher who simply watched his punches bounce off the 35-year-old’s head. But Canelo swears he’s going for it, and if that’s indeed the case, expect the rematch to be even more savage than the first fight. World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman is a very happy man, because a brand new belt will be presented to the winner of the upcoming rematch between WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. The rematch has been finalized for May 5th as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend. "The new belt will coincide with May 5. We are about to announce the new edition of the belt - which this year is the 'Adolfo López Mateos.' We are very happy, motivated. Last year it was the Huichol belt and that was spectacular, and this year will the belt will also be very beautiful," Sulaiman said. "We're just waiting for the venue to be confirmed. It's the fight that everyone is waiting for, I am glad that the tiebreaker is going to take place, this fight is a rematch between the two fighters of greater importance at world level," Sulaiman added. The previous week, Sulaiman had the opportunity to speak with Golovkin in Sochi, Russia, and he says the unified champion is anxious about the fight. "He's eager to get in the ring again, I had the opportunity to talk with him, he's happy, ready to get into training camp, there will be no promotional tour, just a conference and from there to his camp," Sulaiman said. Things may get interesting when the WBC announces their new commemorative title, because last year Canelo rejected the WBC's involvement in the Cinco De Mayo fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr - and he also refused to fight for the WBC title when he fought Golovkin in the fall. "I have not spoken to him, but you know our position.. we have been supportive of him. Golovkin will be defending his title and I'm sure everything will be different from the last fight," Sulaiman concluded. Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is shaking his head at the recent social media postings from former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather. De La Hoya believes Mayweather is once again looking for ways to take away coverage from Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin. Last year, De La Hoya finalized Canelo-Golovkin for September 16th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Not long after, Mayweather announced that he was facing McGregor at the very same venue in August - three weeks before De La Hoya's show. Mayweather-McGregor was a media frenzy and took away a lot of coverage from Canelo-Golovkin. Last Monday, De La Hoya's company announced the Canelo vs. Golovkin rematch for May 5. So does De La Hoya believes Mayweather is once again trying to hurt one of his events? "Of course, but it's fine. Our fight is gonna do 3 million homes, so we're good," De La Hoya told TMZ. “I mean Floyd is a, you know him and his attention. He can’t let anyone have attention so he does this. He’ll never fight in the UFC.” News Credit:Boxing Scene #CaneloAlvarez #OscarDeLaHoya #GoldenBoyBoxing #GennadyGolovkin #TomLoeffler #K2Promotions #FloydMayweather #MayweatherPromotions #HBOPPV #MexicanStyle #MexicanBoxing #CaneloGolovkin2

Chepo Reynoso, co-trainer and manager of Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs), is confident that his boxer will come through with a promise to score a knockout victory in the upcoming rematch with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs). In the first bout, which took place on September 16th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, saw the two boxers trade punches on pace to a controversial twelve round split draw. Both fighters were upset with the verdict of the first fight and each boxer felt the outcome should have been in their favor. "Both were dissatisfied, felt they had won and that's why everything was faster, they facilitated the process to get the rematch done," says Chepo to Juan Manuel Vazquez. "That occasion allowed the two of them to get to know each other, feel out each other's punches and styles. I think the one who got the most from that experience was Canelo, because he showed that he can take Golovkin punches and proved that he is not invincible." When the rematch was announced, Canelo made a promise that Golovkin won't complain about the scoring in the second contest - because he will get knocked out and never get the opportunity to see the judges. Chepo is very confident that his boxer will make good on that promise. "It will be the culmination of a trajectory that we started from when Canelo was a kid, knocking out the knockout artist, and it will be the highest moment in that story we are writing. I use the plural 'we' because I am part of that history, I helped formed him from the beginning and at least when he got the name, Canelo, which I put on him," Chepo said.
