Another one from @foodantics_⁣ ⁣ Recipe:⁣ ⁣ ▪️100g white chickpeas⁣ ▪️100g cauliflower⁣ ⁣ For the paste:⁣ ⁣ ▪️2 tbsp tomato puree⁣ ▪️1/2 red bell pepper⁣ ▪️1 tsp extra virgin olive oil⁣ ▪️1 red chilli⁣ ▪️1 tsp cumin seeds⁣ ▪️1 tsp corriander seeds⁣ ▪️1/2 white onion⁣ ▪️1 clover garlic⁣ ▪️salt and pepper to taste⁣ ⁣ Method:⁣ ⁣ ▪️Soak chickpeas overnight⁣ ▪️Blend all of paste ingredients together in food processor⁣ ▪️Boil chickpeas and allow to cool down⁣ ▪️Marinade the cauliflower with half of the paste⁣ ▪️When chickpeas have cooled down marinade them with remainder of the paste⁣ ▪️Place chickpeaks and cauliflower in oven at 180 degrees and let them cook⁣ ▪️Grill the halloumi⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Enjoy 👌⁣

👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼 Eating guidelines 101. . . The foundations of a healthy, sustainable diet shouldn’t be overwhelming or confusing to implement. In a world where fad diets and weight loss plans dominate, it can be easy to lose sight of what simple, clean & wholesome eating looks like. . . I have never been an advocate of restrictive diet plans and I don’t recommend any one style of eating over another. (Im still scarred from trying the cabbage soup diet in high school 🤢) As far as I’m concerned there are many paths to a healthy diet. And what works for one person or 1000 people still might not be right for you. . . In practice, I ask everyone to complete a diet diary. This is step one. What are you eating now? Is this working for you? What does your 💩 look like? Are you gassy? Do you have reflux? Are you bloated, constipated, congested, brain foggy, crampy, uncomfortable, tired, achy? (I could go on). And if you have any inflammation whatsoever then addressing diet is ultimately the most pressing issue before any other recommendations. . . A common misconception is that naturopaths take away all the foods you love. Not gonna lie, sometimes it does feel that way if someone’s diet primarily consists of the foods that are likely causing them problems. But usually people are convinced that making dietary changes is well worth it after they’ve experienced what living symptom-free feels like. My goal is also to get you to a point of finding the right balance where you can still indulge in your fave foods in moderation or find healthy swaps that still satisfy you. 🍩 . . Discovering a new way to eat is a process if. It a life long journey. Don’t expect to make all the changes overnight. I’m still learning as I go every day on how to incorporate new superfoods and alternatives into our household. . . And if you only remember one thing from this post as a guide on how to eat well. It’s long been considered soothing and comforting to the heart and spirit and has an uplifting nature. I’ve been massaging homemade calendula oil onto my explant scars and they are healing wonderfully. ⁣ Sometimes referred to as “poor man’s saffron,” calendula can be a delicious flavoring and dish beautifier when added to soups, salads, breads and desserts. ⁣ ⁣ Always try to use the full flower head including the green base, where most of the medicinal oils are concentrated. The petals on their own will not be as strong a medicine as the whole dried flowers. ⁣ ⁣ It’s vibrant orange color makes it an excellent ally for the sacral chakra energy center of our sexuality/sensuality, creativity, pleasure, intimacy and personal power. While you’re in the emotion, it really feels like a life and death situation. Repressing emotions for decades adds an extra layer of “don’t go there” when it comes to the idea of allowing yourself to feel your emotions. This isn’t an overnight thing. This isn’t something everyone chooses to do.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are ready to heal though, it’s important to understand that the only way to heal it is to feel it. The light is there at the end of the tunnel. Getting there is difficult, but can be done. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was so good at repressing my emotions that I ended up with severe chronic pain for 4 years in the form of TMJ dysfunction, migraines, carpal tunnel, shoulder and neck pain, trigeminal neuralgia to name a few. I never would’ve imagined repressed emotions were the cause of this pain. After all I had structural issues in my jaw and neck confirmed by mri and X-ray. I post photos of flowers. While some think it’s wise to spread misinformation through the reposting of rants (I’m hypoxic from breathing through a 😷 mask 😂) that haven’t been fact checked, I post flowers. Sensations come and go all day long and when we consciously choose to tune into our bodies, we receive subtle insight into our inner world and if/when it needs tending to. . Today consider how your body might be speaking to you. Are those butterflies asking for deep breaths before a presentation? Is that neck tension requesting you to ask for some help at work or at home? Is a racing heart and red face pulling you into reaction mode when what’s really best is to first pause and let the trigger pass? . In time, trust that the ability to decode your body’s messages will help to decrease pain and increase your sense of overall health and wellness.

Road trip/unplugging + ginger turmeric latte recipe! This weekend I took time unplugging from social media. Sharing my story last week left me with a few days of anxiousness, though I’m still SO happy I shared because you were all so supportive and I loved how many of you shared your experiences, making me feel more connected than ever to you all. I’m so happy to continue to share with you and THANK YOU for all the sweet messages + comments. That being said we have decided to go for a change of scenery this week. We will be road tripping to the other side of Germany to see his family as we are finally allowed to visit others! They live in a house right in the forest so I’m excited to share with you all the beautiful nature and amazing cooking his (Polish) mom does while we are there! Morning everybody! Happy bank holiday! What are you up to? . I am having a rest day today. That means resting from work, from exercise, from excessive housework and social media. I am going to rest indoors and then rest outdoors and read a book! A bank holiday well spent brings a week of content! . Reasons to rest: . 💫 Taking a day off makes it possible to spend that extra time with your loved ones or check in with the people you love. They’ll love the extra time together or hearing from you. 🌙 A day of rest from exercise allows your body to repair tissues damaged from the mechanical stresses of exercise. Rest allows time for the individual cells that repair damaged tissues such as muscle proteins—to do their job and repair any tissues that need it. 💫 Spending a day away from your typical exercise routine also gives you a psychological break, as tough work outs require mental power too. A day off helps your mind relax, allowing your mind to recover alongside your muscles. Signs you need a good rest: 💫 Mood changes. When you’re physically burnt out, hormones like serotonin and cortisol become imbalanced. This can cause changes like irritability, crankiness, and mood swings. 🌙 Sleeping issues. High levels of cortisol and adrenaline are produced by stress and also exercise and can make it hard to get quality sleep. If you are not sleeping very well you may not be giving yourself enough time to rest during the daytime or winding down in the evening. .. 💫 Reduced performance. If your normal routine feels difficult, or if you stop seeing progress, take a rest day. Listen to your body, listen to your mind! Monday Morning vibes... Ready for this week's movement journey - which has been so different these last couple of months . What's it been like for you? Do you feel better than before, the same or a loss? . The big block for many, including myself at first is environment. Not having the environment that supports the mental stimulation to move makes doing it harder . Then there's lack of equipment, lack of space, lack of privacy which also have an effect on not feeling motivated to move . Lucky us humans are creative and resourceful beings who aren't going to give up our Workouts . Doing it differently is key to building the mental stimulation that tells you to move . Create a workout space - no matter how small . Change the 'how' , such as shorter more intense workouts . Healing really does always start within. It's a process that the body initiates with the nudge of its innate wisdom. Didn’t have a workout “planned” into my day - hello, long weekend = extended rest. But this afternoon I realized my body was craving some movement, so I listened. Since I wasn’t feeling crazy high energy, I decided on one of my favorite pilates/barre videos from @toneitup. Around minute 28 (out of 36) I was feeling complete, so I left the video running but extended my stretch. I know I’ve done a good job listening to my body’s signals when I feel energized and connected after a workout, rather than exhausted and depleted. Feeling comfortable with #intuitivemovement can take some trial and error, but I think one of the most important first steps you can take is to reflect on the things you *actually like* to do, and base your movement around those activities. I’m a strong believer that exercise should never be used as self-punishment for any reason. Let me be clear. A compulsive eater is not a lover of food. . Mindful, healthy eaters breathe during the meal, they chew well before swallowing. . They pause often to enjoy the taste of the food. . They focus on the food in front of them rather than what they may have eaten earlier in the day or planned for tomorrow. . Mindful eating introduces you to a new level of freedom. That’s right - Relying on the natural intelligence of your body empowers you to trust yourself and embrace the deliciousness of what food can do for you. . Mindful eating actually opens you up to the possibility of developing not only a healthy relationship with food but a loving one. . Eating motivated by fear, guilt, or a need to check out from the day is indicative of a loss of control brought about by negative self-talk and shame. . Eating compulsively, robs you of any enjoyment from food because you’re not only fearing what it will do TO you but you believe you’re not allowed to enjoy it. . So you eat the grilled chicken breast or boring salad and then find many other ways to eat what you really want while distracting yourself from the reality that you’re eating. . The next time you reach for “comfort food”, think about what will bring peace and pleasure to your soul, eat it with awareness and without guilt, and enjoy all the healing and nourishment it brings you. . Whatever you weigh, you’re entitled to find pleasure and joy in your food, just as you’re entitled to find pleasure and joy in all you do. . Loving food is to smell it, taste it and savor it. . A love affair with food gives new meaning to eating emotionally. That’s right! You’re hearing me correctly, emotional eating can be wonderful. Eating with emotion as opposed to eating in order to deal with emotion is incredible. . When you eat, EAT, and experience the wonder and complexity of food as you experience freedom. The Gift of Water. 🌊 This is a wee clip from our second class on Chinese Medicine and Five Element theory. We are learning about the qualities of each element and how they reflect our own nature back to us. It’s endlessly fascinating and explorative. 🌊 Water resonates with the emotion of Fear. Out of balance we can freeze in the face of fear, but water teaches us that it is ok to go into the darkness and sit with our fears. It helps us cultivate courage in the face of our fears. 🌊 There are many physical manifestation of living in fear, it can show up posturally as pain or weakness in the back as the Urinary Bladder meridian, one of the associated water organs, runs down the entire span of the back body. 🌊 Water imbalance can show up behaviourally as pushing beyond our limits via overwork. 🌊 The elements hold so many gifts and wisdoms. 🌊 Understanding them helps us tune into the flow of our own life, and live according to the the rhythms of nature. 🌊 They hold a new perspective on how to live our lives. 🌊🌑☯️

Wild Times!! Rich times!! Full of potential. A lot of us are finding ourselves off from work and taking pause. Amidst what can feel like mania and uncertainty, it also feels like a tremendously sacred time full of potential transformation. Personally, I’ve been hella curious about the bigger picture of COVID-19 and have found myself asking questions like: What world do we want to create? How can see this whole situation differently? How does my body/mind/soul interact, in harmony, with the world around me? I’d like to invite anyone interested into a community conversation via the Chinese Medicine lens (which is how nature, ecosystems and the life-death-life cycle work) by offering the Chinese Medicine course that I’ve put online for absolutely FREE. On top of that and because it feels so important to be coming together, I’ve scheduled 5 interactive Zoom meetings.
