Practicing how to BE instead of DO until one day it’s just one in the same. I’ve had moments of being “dazzled” by life and it truly requires a willingness to drop everything that makes me feel comfortable. It requires me to land HERE in every moment. Like in yoga where I’m alone on my mat, in this state of mind but to do this while being in a different state of body is challenging for me. Judgement shuts down our ability to accept our current experience. And even though we might know this, it is SO automatic. . . We live in a society that encourages us to make value-based judgements: "this is good", "that is bad." And because of that, it's so natural for us to judge and categorize our experiences as favourable or unfavourable. . . Now when we talk about emotions, a lot of us have judgments about our feelings and other people's feelings. . . Things like: "I shouldn't feel this way" or "Why aren't I over this already?!" or "It's embarrassing that I care so much" or some other variety of this... . . If just for this moment, you could notice something difficult you are experiencing RIGHT NOW... whether it's uncertainty, or tiredness, or apathy, or sadness, or anxiety.. . . LET yourself notice what it's like to just let this in and allow yourself to see what you're feeling, without changing it or judging it. . . I have seen patients suffering with depression, chronic pain and anxiety and I know how life can become hectic and stressful! No one is immune to mental illnesses be it depression, anxiety, bipolar, borderline personality disorder and the rest, it's not an 'other people's illness'. It's not for the homeless, refugees, victims of immigration, indegenious populations, children, adolescents, widows, the aged... It affects society as a whole not just a small segment of people. Reading @gretchenrubin new 📖 Outer Order, Inner Calm. This quote really hit me (as many of Gretchen’s one liners often do). I am constantly finding myself dwelling on a task that I keep putting on the back burner. It’s exhausting. When I actually focus and work on the task, it is typically easier and faster. Lesson learned? Just get it done! ☑️

We are all unique. We should never try to be someone else for that would be the greatest disservice to you, me, and the world. We all need each other to be who we are so together we can be something great. My favorite quality about myself is my ability to be chill no matter what. Through all the criticism, emergencies, pain, stress, LA traffic (that’s a hard one tbh) and housebreaking puppies I can remain calm and chill. I hate stress I don’t want stress and that ability allows me to deflect a lot of it. Don’t get me wrong I feel it just like everyone else. I also have moments of extreme anxiety. But with meditation I’m learning to bring forth my chill quality during times where it’s too much. Früher hätte ich mir an Tagen wie diesen hitzefrei gewünscht. Mir kam die Zeit im Büro dann manchmal vor wie ein Kaugummi, das sich endlos zieht. Wenn du vor Wärme kaum nachdenken kannst und die Regel gilt: Hauptsache alle erfüllen mindestens ihre acht Stunden pro Tag, egal ob es gerade viel zu tun gibt oder nicht... ... Schon immer hat sich das Fremdbestimmte unnatürlich für mich angefühlt. Selten war mir das jedoch bewusst. Heute weiß ich, dass ich produktiver bin, wenn ich meinem natürlichen Flow folge, Pläne mache, aber auch Raum für Planänderungen lasse. Der Macherin in mir folge, aber ihr auch Pausen verordne, wenn sie mal wieder zu viel auf einmal zu schnell will. ... Heute kann ich darauf achten, auf mich und meine Bedürfnisse hören. ○ 2. Judgement and shame ○ . Shame is an unhelpful judgement. Guilt is a healthy consequence. Shame is, I am bad. Guilt is, I did something bad. . There's noone that judges our inner child and former selves like we do ourself. . Sometimes, we lool back and cringe, or cry or laugh. Sometimes, we get defensive and say we don't regret anything because it made us who we are, other times we say that we are not our past. . Which ever way preserves our sense of self will prevail. The ego is alwaysbin search of something that makes it feel comforted and safe. Particularly when it comes to inner child work. . Shame and guilt is fixed from a very young age and is adopted from our environment. It can cause people to supress and deny many many parts of their own psyche. . We become fragmented. . This dynamic sets us up to be spontaneously triggered by lots of different stimuli, including people. . An angry or overwhelming response to a trigger is a sure clue that there is an emerging sense of fear, shame and guilt attached to a memory that we are supressing. . Our self judgements are clues to our own conditioning. And is not easy to realise. . What comfort seeking behaviour do you have? When working on dissolving unbeneficial crystallized thought patterns it is often necessary to keep reminding ourself to let go of control, relax and enjoy each moment. It can be helpful to say affirmations to this effect daily or as often as needed. The mind may require constant support and encouragement during this time as it easily falls back into old patterns but with time and perseverance the patterns will be dissolved and healthier more beneficial ones put in place.

Dare to be different! I took this picture whilst running the @racetothetower a few weeks ago and it really resonated with me. At first I thought ‘What a pretty field of sheep’ and I then I saw her. Standing tall. Standing out. And I fell in love. The wrong colour, the wrong size, the wrong field. This was my kind of girl! The different girl. There are times when we feel that we don’t belong. Dare to be different! I took this picture whilst running the @racetothetower a few weeks ago and it really resonated with me. At first I thought ‘What a pretty field of sheep’ and I then I saw her. Standing tall. Standing out. And I fell in love. The wrong colour, the wrong size, the wrong field. This was my kind of girl! The different girl. There are times when we feel that we don’t belong. From THIS 👈 to THIS 👉 This is an example of ‘reframing’ and counteracting negative thoughts in action.... real life, this was me this morning! Thought: ‘OMG, it’s pouring down.... I’m going to get soaked today on my way into London!!’ Response: ‘Never mind. I’ll pack my umbrella... and everyone else will be in the same boat anyway’ Thought: ‘Aghhh is that the time, I’m going to be late!!’ Response: ‘You still have 45 mins before the train leaves. All is well.’ Thought: ‘Ahh this traffic! I didn’t think the traffic would be so bad. Now only 25 mins. What if I miss the train?!’ Response: ‘Never mind. That’s more time to listen to my audiobook and not get wet standing on the platform, and if I miss it, I can just get the next one. All is well.’ I’m on the train. All is well... and I feel a damn sight less flustered than I would have done, had I listened to those original thoughts and let them spiral. Have a great Tuesday all! Living simply in a beautiful space. That was what I had in mind when I designed my kitchen. The layout of my kitchen is simple and everything in it is visable. Simplicity means an easy life: there is no long list of machines to do jobs for me, there are no complex utensils. Therefore we get our hands dirty. We get closer to the source of the meal. We chop and in the process we see the beauty inside an onion, the star inside an apple, we knead, we get covered in flour and my children get to feel it’s cloud like texture in the process. Simplicity means we need less. And needing less means great savings in waste, time and money. ************** Visibility is key for me. I have all our dry food in jars, that when they empty I can take them along to my local Scoop and Weigh shop and fill them straight up. No need for packaging, no need for plastic and therefore far less waste. I don’t have cupboards filled deep with food long forgotten, all our groceries are where I can see them. And so we waste less. ************* Interior design for me is all about making sustainable, eco friendly choices, whether that is creating spaces that encourage you to live in a simplified and mindful way or crafting spaces and their contents from reused things. When we are consciously designing spaces in this way, we naturally simplify. We have more space, both literally and figuratively. More time to attend to the non material things that truly mean something to us. As the introverted half of the FloLab mamas (a terrible name I just made up, nobody calls us that...) I have often felt that my quiet nature was something I had to battle and overcome. Recently, however, I have been delving a lot into research on introversion, and learning to both value and manage my natural state of being.   The book "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by @susancainauthor is an essential book for us introspective types, especially if, like me, you like a bit of science. Susan does an amazing job of combining scientific research with historical, inspirational examples and personal anecdotes. What I found most profound in this book is the confirmation of an "extrovert bias" that I have felt for years, and that so often makes us introverts feel invalidated, despite our talents.   Sometimes, it feels like the whole world - especially in the professional sphere - is geared towards extroverts. Even in the once "nerdy" fields like science and tech. Just last week my partner, a shy, sensitive IT developer, experienced a shaming of his quietness by his manager. I mean, if introverts can't find refuge in IT, where can they go?! Luckily, I recently gave him a copy of Susan Cain's book, and I'd like to think that it contributed in some way towards him standing up for himself and looking for new, more suitable employment!   Similarly, I feel like we have so many introverts in our FloLab community because they too have faced situations like this, being made to feel like they don't belong, or can't "hack" a regular work environment. happy hormones smoothie coming right up before my flight to Greece 🇬🇷 today!
