Never underestimate the power of doing something, anything, to feel good. For years on my blog and in social media, I posted a weekly “Feel Good Moment”. Usually it was simply a super short YouTube video that made people feel good. That simple link used to get the most comments from peeps. Clients would thank me for the link and even reminisce about older videos I had posted. Students would come in chuckling with each other over it. It doesn’t takes a rocket scientist to figure it out. We all crave that moment of smile, of lightness, and, dare I say it, perhaps joy. There is a reason we crave it (besides the obvious). An energetic reason. We uplift our frequency whenever something moves us to smile (or even think about smiling). When we feel good (or simply better), we are kinder to ourselves and others, we make better decisions, we do more to help others. Think about it. I challenge you to do something for yourself right now that helps you feel good. Something that is super quick and notice the difference. This is for all of us who have a difficult shutting down the thoughts we have before we go to bed at night. It may be a list of chores that are running in your head that you didn’t have the chance to write down, let alone complete. You may have worries about whether you locked the front door for the third time. Or maybe you have a cocktail of emotions swirled with professional tasks that need to be completed for the next day. Either way, our monkey mind is not quieting down and allowing us to welcome sleep. There is a solution. When we look at the psychology literature, cognitive behavior therapy exercise and the concept of journaling is very healing. Now I’m not asking you to become the next New York Times bestselling author. I am asking you to go find a pen and a piece of paper. It’s that simple. No, please don’t take out your laptop or your smartphone and start typing it out. You don't even have to buy a fancy journal. I actually want you to use pen and paper. Take a deep breath in, exhale out and just write everything down in list format. Grammar, punctuation and sentence structure don’t matter. You can mix emotions with your to-do list. This is just your personal brain dump. Nobody is going to read it, grade it or judge you for it. Why does this work? When we have thoughts that are stuck in our mind, they are going to keep repeating on a shuffle unless we physically and emotionally release them. By writing them down, we are releasing these thoughts by touching them, seeing them and reading them out loud. We are essentially giving our brain permission to no longer worry about thoughts that are keeping us from sleeping. 📷: @buddhadoodles You deserve to bloom.⠀ ⠀ When I was 24, I ended up moving back to the town I went to college at after a year of living in LA. I had been working as a production assistant on one project and programming coordinator on another and wanted so badly to “make it” and every decision I made revolved around this thinking. I lost my grounding and had a breakdown due to all the stress I was choosing to put myself through, plus the overwhelm of living in a city for the first time.⠀ ⠀ It was so hard to walk away from that part of my career track, and I used to be so harsh with myself for the fall I took, but coming back to Santa Barbara to reground and rebuild my health was one of the best decisions I ever made. I got a job as a waitress for a few years, went back to therapy, and started my daily sketch practice while exhibiting my self-published books and illustration prints at events like the San Diego comic con. I also organized art shows and book signing events in Santa Barbara! Incubating my work there was a key piece in building my confidence to radiate outward, take more risks and reach for the stars, but from a place of love, heart, and soul. ⠀ Leaning towards the light, taking time to grow strong. Blooming in your own loving time.⠀ ⠀ One thing lead to another, and five years after that fall, Buddha Doodles was born!⠀ ⠀ You deserve the room to bloom.⠀ XOXO⠀ mollycules

I'd like to prescribe a digital detox. Please don’t keep scrolling or exit out of this picture just because you read these words. I’m not taking away the iPhone, your smart tablet or your computer permanently. All I’m asking you to do is one hour before bedtime, shut down all of the electronic devices. Why? Well, clinical studies have shown that the blue light that is emitted from these devices actually suppresses a critical neuropeptide in the brain called melatonin. Melatonin is critical in our circadian rhythm or our sleep-wake cycle. When the melatonin levels drop from these electronic devices, stress and other causes, we have difficulty falling asleep. So now you’re thinking oh good Lord, Dr. Romie, what am I going to do for one hour prior to bedtime if I can’t get on Facebook, play a video game or read a book on my iPad? Well, let’s get creative. If you have a romantic partner living with you, how about some time for some romance? I can’t even deny I’ve felt totally in my element after painting some boards, scooping up the pottery we made at @purringpottery and playing with eucalyptus. I don’t only like food. I like design, I like composition, I like shapes and patterns and expanding the mind through the challenges and obstacles. I love things that make me think outside the box. So sometimes these images start with organic produce, sometimes they start with pottery, sometimes they start with the backstory of whomever I’m working with, sometimes they start with a color palette, sometimes they start with the backdrop, and sometimes (most of the time) they start with honest, pure curiosity! But amidst the questions and interests, all I know for certain is that I’m not living if I’m not doing whatever I’m doing with passion. For I’d rather do things with passion or not at all! (Side note: I have a big announcement coming soon!!! Stay tuned! 💓) at Connecticut
