I was never one to sit down and take some time for myself; I was always worried about making others happy and making sure everyone around me was okay before I took care of myself. | • • Boy, did nursing school teach me. I realized I was doing it all wrong. As I’m coming up on the most stressful months of my career and just finishing my behavioral health course, I have come to realize just how important it is to take care of YOU first. | I was wondering aimlessly around @target (as most women do 😂) and stumbled upon this cute little book. I’ve been using it for quite some time now. I sit down for 5-10 minutes and reflect on my day and I find myself in a state of calm amidst the chaos and demands of my day to day life. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Your mental health is SO important. Most don’t realize the impact it can have until it becomes debilitating. Don’t forget to take care of your needs! BRING YOUR GREATEST SELF TO THIS MOMENT. I was listening to a meditation on my favorite app @insighttimer the other morning and heard those words: bring your greatest self to this moment. A simple revelation. A wonderful reminder. Perhaps a trick to stay in the present, to stay centered, to keep grateful. What is your greatest self? Who were you before the world clouded your being? Patient. Kind. Joyful. Clear-hearted. What else? Bring that to this moment. Then bring it to the next. And the next. Take it moment by moment. Instead of only looking ahead years from now and picturing who you’ll be, look here—right now. Be that now. Pause. Breathe. And then bring it. ✨

CHANGING “BAD” HABITS ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ I find that I often hold out for deep inner transformation happening overnight… or otherwise SUDDENLY. I find myself hoping my motivation is itself enough to transform my habits & aversions. I’ve been learning, again, that real change is a process. Usually not magnificent, more often than not ugly & uncomfortable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ I spent time last night cultivating deep appreciation for my life, my situation, and even my “bad” habits and comfy complacency. I really allowed myself to feel how much I loved it all, shame free. I used to believe I disliked my perceived “flaws” but it turns out that these just benefited, comforted, and protected me. Deep down, I didn’t want to let go of that familiarity. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today, I decided to grieve the loss of old, escapist ways as a method of making space to embody truly beneficial qualities. The process is part theater, part deep truth. I allow myself to “know” that the old ways will inevitably end, and give myself the room to feel everything I have to feel in order to actually ALLOW myself to let go. I grieve as I await the part grieved to die a natural death. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It sounds a bit odd, but this process is the most effective method I have found for instilling inner change without actively enacting discipline. I find it organic & considerate of the full self. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I would love to hear how you’ve changed self-sabotaging habits in your life. ⠀⠀⠀ What worked best? Beginner's Mind.  This concept is another hallmark principle for cultivating a healthy mindfulness practice.  Beginner's mind is the idea that you approach the present moment with fresh eyes, akin to how you might begin learning about something you've never experienced before.  If you think about children exploring some aspect of the world for the first time, they approach it with interest and often a sense of wonder.  There's excitement in newness! . . Think back on when you learned to do something unfamiliar, like tie your shoes, ride a bicycle, play an instrument, cook your first meal, or navigate in a new city.  In these instances, being attentive and placing your full concentration on the task at hand is what helped you to eventually develop that skill set, along with practice, of course. . . Meditation “I breathe in noticing my breath filling my lungs as my belly expands I feel my throat opening up inviting air up through the crown of my head. As I exhale I fully experience my tension in my neck and my shoulders relaxing. My floating bought start to subside and I turn my gaze inwards as if I’m looking over the tip of my nose with my eyes closed. I can hear my breath, I feel the vibration and the positive feedback as something so mundane as breath can express. A few minutes in I see bits of lights popping up as if to encourage me on my journey. I begin to experience glimpses of light at the center of my third eye. The light starts out dark and vague, gradually becoming purple and eventually it’s just a white glow welcoming me in as I create self awareness. The timer I set starts to sing waking me back up as if a singing bowl or happy drum played. I breathe in a few full expansive breaths waking back up slowly. I notice a tingling sensation running through my veins. The Prana energy dancing amongst my limbs singing thank you. I start to hear the noises surrounding me... my dog snoring by my side. The snow melting off the roof as I hear the drips and drops kissing the earth. Blinking my eyes open I feel a sense of ease and awareness. Today I sat on my knees feet beneath my sits bones as I sit with my elbow bent at my side thumb and middle finger touching. I feel connected to the faith and spirituality running through me. I feel a connection to myself in a moment of silence. I feel consumed with love and emotions to myself and all the little things that bring me joy.
